reflections on trusting trust when your reproducible build was made possible using code generated by an org whose development tools are compromised by a supply chain attack
where we actually are now.

oh right, the ban on the basis that it may infringe copyright. I am still hoping for something stronger, like https://codeberg.org/guix/guix-consensus-documents/src/branch/main/008-genai.md which had 1 sole objector

It's worth noting that the DPL was using an LLM to generate their emails for some time. I was astonished to find that fact buried in LWN a couple weeks back.
Could guix please hurry up with a LLM policy so i can switch to it? I don't have time for multiple episodes of distro hopping, I have distro hopped 2.1 times so far in 31 years.

I have forked the #haskell magic library after a new maintainer gummed it all up with LLM slop
Compare the LLM generated code with my code. These 77 and 4 lines of code do essentially the same thing, except mine is twice as fast, avoids ifdefs, and doesn't have large nonsense comment blocks about encodings.

In the LLMs's defense, my code contains the first use of System.OsString.coercionToPlatformTypes that I can find on the internet, so it had nothing to steal the good way to do it from.

If bkuhn's right that permissive licenses make attribution hard to enforce, then the best way to accomplish that would be to use copyleft.
Anyway, if you keep Apache v2, it would certainly make sense to include a NOTICE file, since currently an Object derived from goblins does not need to attribute you at all. And as Apache v2 defines "Object", that seems to include AI models.

debian.net is for web sites that are ran by single debian developers, not by the project as a whole. Any DD can make a debian.net site. Hell, I still have a debian.net site I happen to control and I left the project over a decade ago ... oops.
However, salsa integration I think speaks to this being more widely part of debian than some random developer's site. debian.net is also sometimes used to make things not look "too" official.

Wrote a 58 line shell script and now #gitAnnex can treat Internet Archive items as remotes, tracking changes to files in them and downloading files from them as needed like from any other remote.
This is a new git-annex feature and it really just comes down to a few lines of shell script, with the meat of it being a `curl | jq`. The rest is boilerplate that would be the same in any script doing this for any web resource.

scrolling through #gitAnnex backlog that I have not had time to look at yet. 375 messages going back a long while.
Always feel bad about not getting to everything, but I do eventually get to most things.
Anyway, it's really nice that I actually have funding for some hours each month to try to keep up with all the messages, and sometimes even dig into the backlog, sponsored by the INM-7 at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

github's TOS allows them to reuse the content without attribution, which even takes more rights than the BSD license grants them.
Their TOS also waives all other moral rights of the author BTW.

Just gonna mention one time more that the #github ToS gives them a license to use your content in a way that is very apparent in 2025 includes training their LLM on it.
The only license I will ever provide to my free software is the license it's publically released under, so I will never push it to #github, and have not since the day they made this part of their ToS.
