It's lovely to see so many people donate to the Imagination Library in honor of #DollyParton that the site is crashing.
If you can't get through there, I suggest donating to help the people in Memphis hit by the recent (ongoing for over a week+!) power outages. If her health had been up to it, I know Dolly would never have ignored her fellow Tennesseans in need.

Found these in the news but will update if there are better orgs to give to!

They are already beating people up on video and breaking car windows to drag people out of them, I shudder to think what this shit will further embolden them to do. If you're able to speak about it on the local or state level please do, for everyone else I hear getting dunked in water disables these torture devices pretty well.

It was apparently an artifact from a testing file (also, the story is from 2019 so predates the penguins)

Chayote is usually green but it wouldn't be too odd to see a white one every now and then, even perhaps a whole varietal or hybrid cultivar. I guess it also depends how you define what is a sappy taste? Either way, it certainly looks like some kind of squash to me, whether chayote or something else, so probably nice and crisp when eaten raw and will probably sauté nicely! And it will probably stand up to pickling pretty well, too.

My husband got one last year for that reason, he'd only been scared off it before bc a close friend of ours had had bad complications bc of his doctor (even though said friend still advocates for vasectomies though!)
Anyway it was so easy that he walked out of the clinic and got into the car of his own volition (he was supposed to call me and wait but forgot lmao)

—Problem is, when *I* click the post, I *don't see* many of those bc either I/my instance admin already muted/blocked/suspended/defederated those accounts, or for other federation reasons. I only see pleasant replies—until OP edits the post to mention the harassment, at which point I "open original page" and YIKES.
But I can't even report those yikes replies bc I can't interact with anything on the original page that doesn't show on my instance, and I have to block manually with search. (2/x)

Here's an illustration of the problem with harassment and culture OnHere:
Person makes an innocuous post that gets boosted a lot. It inevitably reaches people desperate to prove they're better than others, who leap onto the post to harangue OP about *checks notes* encouraging people to avoid the business they want them to avoid, and other people for enjoying what OP wants to share. Typical reply fly bullshit, should be easy to identify and block. HOWEVER—

Yes!! It's literally encoded into my language. Like if I approach a stranger who looks like they're of my parents' generation (e.g. to say "excuse me, your shoe is untied" or whatever), it's not a *choice* to address them as uncle/aunt, that term is literally my only option based on having no other knowledge.

Fascinating that while the site still proudly touts DoNotPay as one of its clients, the EZPR "About us" page boasting about Ed being the founder has been deleted since your post (he is still identifying himself as the CEO of the company on his site at https://www.wheresyoured.at/about/ )
what interesting timing for such a deletion, eh? 🤔

I'm glad they'll finally have a chance to shine too! It must be exciting for them to be able to perform live and on TV together for the first time (per the article). I read how Ejae was trapped in Kpop training hell for 10 years and they ultimately dropped her for superficial reasons. I hope someone's kicking themselves over that now!

"sometimes the associated sites don't seem to contain the answers provided by the AI Overview,"
In addition to that, you can't even trust the summaries on the regular results to actually exist on those pages anymore. Used to be what you saw under a link was always preview text from that page, but now sometimes it is, and sometimes it's something LLMified to look like it's an exact match for what you're looking for, but a quick Cmd/CTRL-F shows your search terms aren't there. Terrible!

ICE has "disappeared" at least 2/3s of the over 1,800 prisoners in their camp in Florida, using deliberately shitty recordkeeping to claim they don't know where the people they kidnapped are. Most have been transferred to other facilities or deported at random, some may still be there but with their records deleted so there's no way to keep track of them. ICE is erasing *real people* to dodge accountability for their crimes.

These urgings to use "common sense" are such a sham. Common sense would be to provide healthcare services to children who need and want it. But this way the politicians get a nice loophole where they never have to take any accountability for the harm they're causing these children. Public disapproval? "We never said they couldn't do that, it's common sense!" Nurses do a "common sense" thing bigots don't like? "It's 'illegal'!" 🙄🤬

Glad to hear it, I remember NYC's Viet food scene as fucking *dire* when I stopped visiting regularly (around 2010-ish) so hearing that it's improved beyond "white chefs throwing broccoli into broth" is welcome news.

I mean, it's exactly the same as with white magats being harmed by his policies when they thought they would just be used against the "bad ones." They may yell and scream if they're directly impacted, but most of the Vietnamese people who are magats will either memoryhole it or make up a retroactive justification for it and continue to enthusiastically support leopard face-eating at any chance. Just like white magats. We know this, that's why he got re-elected.

That Chuffed fundraiser that's supposedly for Mahmoud Khalil doesn't appear to have any links or other info for accountability (it was started by "In Solidarity"), just so y'all know.
(also, don't go to the comments for that campaign, they're full of hate speech from "donors" who will probably report the donation as a fraudulent charge)

What an awful situation. Not only do I feel terrible for the performers, I also hate that it's so hard to discuss with nuance these days. You would think it would be easy to say "Falun Gong is an extremist cult" *and* "the CCP is brutally repressive" *and* "it is untrustworthy and very gross of the NYT to translate 'sifu/shifu' as 'master' to scare people without including the context that this is the same word used in martial arts schools", but…
