Not really. You will just write something along the line what you saw at Stackoverflow, maybe with a small adjustment. You would have done it with adjustments probably anyway, without copy pasting. But in the end, you looked. And once you saw, pretending to close the window, and writw what you saw out of the head doesn't really make it any different.
A difference would be if you never resorted to opening stackoverflow at all.

I understand this as my example would not be welcome in production code, simply by the fact that AI was involved, no matter my expertise, understanding, control I exercised over it, or anything else?
I understand the line, but not the requirements to land on one side or the other by your standards.

I agree on that, but it's not the only use case. I understand my codebase, I consult with AI on architecture, possible directions to go, upsides and downsides, let it propose a solution, think about it, and then write parts of the code myself and let it write some of the boilerplate which I know exactly how I want it to be. It never does any single task, where I didn't give it precise details and scope what to do and how.
Is the result of this.. slop?

I agree there is slop, by the original meaning of the word, low quality code which brings no value and the owner doesn't even understand it. But, can you agree, someone with experience and understanding of the code, which doesn't use automatic agents, but guides and controls it's every step, can produce amazing things?

I disagree, because all I see all over the internet are only extremes. One side says AI is the ultimate good and can do nothing bad, and the other side says AI is ultimate evil, and unable to do any good.
The truth is but in the middle. AI is like a knife, it can be used either to prepare food or kill people. But it's up to the human using it which one is it going to be.

Instead of improving software for end users, let's focus on ideological personal opinions on what tools are people supposed to use. And if they use the wrong tools, let's exclude them from the community and participation. We don't want that kind of inclusivity. /s

You can't blame people for "breaking a rule" if the rule doesn't exist. In capitalism, there is no limit how much wealth you can accumulate. There is no "don't be greedy" rule. You would need to chamge the system to communism, declare everything is public property, and private ownership is banned. Then you can prevent bilionaired from existing, at least those not in power over the country.

I don't even blame them, they are just using the loopholes the system provides. Unless you fix the loopholes, at best you take from one generation of billionaires while the next one is right around the corner. It's hard to initially acquire wealth, but once you have some, the compounding effect goes insane...

you can't tax monopoly money, and thats exactly what their wealth is - theoretical.

The only thing we have truly is custom ROMs and dev friendly OEMs. Ideally, someone would create an open source alternative to entire Google ecosystem. We do have individual components already, just no coherent ecosystem.

Not in a meaningful way. It's a part of GMS and at best, EU can rule OEMs are allowed to offer AOSP versions of their phones, but then you don't get the good parts. Android is still open source and sideloading is still not 'gone', just behind one more hurdle. Google is pulling an Apple here, technically compliant, but so that nobody bothers sideloading anymore.

Unless people stop buying Android phones as a response from Google, and switch to iOS (because where else?) I just don't see why would Google care about 0.2% of crying users who have no alternative anyway?
Or just flash a custom ROM and it's fine. Until you can.

That's the sole reason why we have the lock in. Alternatives are not at the same level, let alone better. I tried using selfhosted nextcloud and it's a mess. It tries to do to much things but none of them well. Have you considered Proton or Infomaniak as (Swiss) alternatives? Infomaniak seems quite polished, has the option to use OnlyOffice instead of MS Office.

A country is just a garden around your house, but bigger. You probably wouldn't wanna let bad people enter and stay in your garden just like that...
