Hashtags aren’t just a tool to see trending news or get more eyeballs on your posts, they are a powerful tagging structure that organizes content and conversations across a social platform. But on Surf, when you add a hashtag as a source in your feed, you can unite posts from across *several* platforms including Bluesky, Mastodon and federated Threads accounts. This allows you to see what people are saying about that topic, independent of the platform they are posting on. This is the power of open social networking, under the hood it’s all one social graph.
If you are using @npub1ekk…vy6m go to your feed settings and try it out. Pull your community conversations together and let us know what you think! #hashtag 😆

Reporters and writers that are looking for independence should be building on platforms that give them true independence. @npub16f3…6xc0 closing remarks in this piece say it all!
"Ghost, for its part, is close to rolling out full integration with the fediverse, which will allow publishers to make their publications a standalone portal to federated applications and networks such as Mastodon. The open web can be the future of publishing if we put our minds to it!"

Media outlets that investigate and report on our behalf, being the eyes and ears of citizens, will be increasingly targeted and silenced. If you work with journalists you admire, remind them that the open social web is where the truth will be valued. They need to start building their readership here, on Mastodon or any open service.
Contact journalists you know and remind them that they should invest in their future and recognize their traffic from X is controlled by someone else. #media

Why publishers should invest in their Mastodon, Pixelfed and Bluesky accounts? “The notion of creating an audience rather than chasing traffic is something we have been exploring,” said Nilay Patel, editor in chief of The Verge, a popular news and media website. “ActivityPub might facilitate that by allowing for more direct and meaningful engagement with our readers.”

I'm going to start evangelizing that publishers and journalists display Mastodon and/or Bluesky links on all of their pages and invest in those communities. They need to be doubling down in places where their connection with their audience is genuine and sustainable. I'm so tired of seeing media outlets continue to support social networks that do nothing but destroy journalism!

We've approved everyone with the code and would love to hear how it's going? Any chance the AllThingsTech team would be up for a call with us to share feedback or ideas? Really appreciate the community connection, it's been great!

Such an honor!! @npub1ekk…vy6m made the @npub1lrq…pn8w 2024 list: "Not only is the signal to noise ratio far higher, but it’s far less exhausting than other social media apps. It’s now the only social app I’ll allow on my phone." #Surf #socialweb 🤙 Watch this space, there's more ahead. https://werd.io/2024/stuff-i-loved-in-2024

We've launched a new social web browser so you can see what people are talking about across the fediverse, from Mastodon to Bluesky and federated Threads conversations. You can use search or make your own lists (custom feeds). Here's a link to the waitlist, hope you'll surf the future with us! https://about.surf.social/

we saw 5 codes come through and have just approved those. Does that number sound correct? Thanks for helping us test codes! Re: the beta, we're still polishing some areas and need Bluesky login to make those interactions more seamless, but excited to see the feeds you're building! The community aspect is very cool.

That would be very cool, your own #AllThingsTech community! Would you be up for helping us test referral codes (so you can send the code to everyone on your instance and they'd get Surf)?

Something we hope @npub1ekk…vy6m and other products work to solve: @npub1zgq…9vw8 summarized it perfectly. "The Problem? The rise of the algorithmic engagement-driven social media feed has swamped our feeds with an avalanche of clickbait, ragebait, fake feelgood videos, and all sorts of other distracting, disempowering, and dissatisfying content."

yes, a global social network where people connect like pages connect on the internet, regardless of the service you use to build your website. It’s a significant new layer to the web and will enable new business and services, way beyond the social networks you see now.

If you missed it, today @npub13fk…z5hw is taking over all of the press.coop publisher profiles (initially established to bring more news to the fediverse). Now Flipboard publishers will be able to connect with all of the people formerly following their RSS feeds on press.coop. Very cool to work with @npub1459…qahn on this migration.
