Last Notes npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 To Canada's Green Party folks: the federal leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party, @nprofile…yvcw, is on Mastodon. A good sign that at least one federal party leader sees value in the Fediverse & a move away from the toxic oligarch stranglehold. [email protected] npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 IMPORTANT: Canada’s Senators ask intelligent questions of Nobel Laureate, Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, known as the Godfather of AI. npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 Friends. I've been chatting with Avi Lewis about a presence in the Fediverse — Mastodon. They are getting closer to taking this step, & YOU are needed. Why does this matter? If we have wished that governments would leave corporate US social media capture, we need more champions. Polite appeals aren't enough. Every new party leader in the Fediverse is a win for digital sovereignty, thus it is an act of defence & patriotism for #Canada, #Greenland, #Venezuela to move leaders to the Fedi. #cdnpoli npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 A worthwhile doc for those who'd like to see us wrestle power away from the oligarchs who dominate social media — https://youtu.be/YMuWbUU9JEU npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 I found this to be a rare and informative description of the Chinese political and economic system. Do you have other examples/resources? npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 What, if anything, does the resignation of Canada's ambassador to the US portend? npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 1/10 npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 Calling all Mastodons! [email protected] npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 "Canada not angling to get out of F-35 contract with U.S., says head of defence procurement npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 🌱 Congratulations to Emily Lowan, newly elected leader of the BC Green Party! npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 @nprofile…wuyc For the next Canadian federal election, I'm reflecting on the difference between Canadian Liberals & Conservatives. With the Liberals, it's a slow capitulation to US interests & values, slow bleeding of strength. With the Conservatives, you get to see the brutal attack and butchery. There is no effort by the Canadian gov to prepare Canadians for a war like footing. #boycottusa is grassroots. npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 B.C. grocer avoids selling U.S. produce for 117 days in what expert calls a ‘real’ boycott npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 @nprofile…mmpy Thanks for that. I hope my post doesn't appear like a promotion for that platform. That's not the intention. With the limited words available and no desire to create a series, it was intended to seek ideas about how to generate relevance in communities. The part that asks how X or FB became ubiquitous isn't meant to promote those platforms either. npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 @nprofile…mmpy Interesting. I feel like I need more information to understand this point. npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 I'm interested in how the fediverse & Mastodon in particular, grow, & become resilient. How did FB and X become so ubiquitous? npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 Take a moment to listen to Charlie. He gets it right. #Canada #cdnpoli #canpoli npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 Is anyone from #YYJ going to FediCon in Vancouver, and if so, what do you hope to come away with from the conference? #fedicon npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 Real countries that have digital service taxes... 🥁 npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 "... in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem: it merely creates new and more complicated ones. Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all... Violence ends up defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers." npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 Good news! MLA Botterell has agreed to get "on board" with being among the leaders who’ve chosen the fediverse, “the people’s social media.” But I think it will help if he gets any encouraging emails to follow through. I've offered to help him make the transition, but we may need your help as well. Can you help make this a success? #cdnpoli #yyj #canada[email protected] npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 I'm meeting with my BC Member of the Legislative Assembly tomorrow to specifically ask him to work with me & others on championing the use of the fediverse among elected representatives. It's good to take the stuff we know is 'wrong' & reflect on whether Canada is 'the paragon of virtue' that we sometimes sometimes assume due to contrast with the #USA. In fact, I think that willingness to be reflexive is a quintessentially Canadian quality. Our confidence to not simply thump our chest & point the finger is especially healthy, especially amidst the boos, high elbows, & rising nationalism. npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 @nprofile…wuyc It's crazy... so I looked up South Africa's website... check it out. #SouthAfrica npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 @nprofile…wuyc Any protests in the #USA about this one? Canadians need to keep this in mind as electuon candidates ramp up their faux nationalism. Will we be satisfied with flags & games, or will we expect actions? If the lowest hanging fruit is impossible to pick (leaving X), then why expect successful candidates to summon the political will for bigger actions (cut energy, cut F35s, end US patents, etc)? npub13q5n5ws9nnzz3lenpcwgzrjx460k74fhkfnays4u6peearqq9hcs9cxee3 Zeb King 🇨🇦 If the USA invaded Canada, what would Americans do?Would the significant number who are progressive take any meaningful & sustained action? Would Democrats wave ping-pong paddles of disapproval at their president? Would intellectuals write strongly worded letters & articles?
