The villagers will say important info but nothing too cryptic. However there are signs littered about with dates of death and whatnot, they're not just for show.
Once you get to the castle where it opens up a bit you might get stuck but just look at past routes you couldn't get to before and you'll find the solution. I'm retarded and still finished it on release, it's not La Mulana-tier obscurity or anything.
I haven't touched Bloodstained optional modes since Bloodless was added as a playable character, might give them a shot.

CoTW is basically the LC3 we never got.

I still find it to be the best interpretation of Simon's Quest. It's a perfect balance between old and new styles, with both some degree of exploration (especially near the end like OoE) and also some challenging platforming.

Zelator was actually my favorite area, it's like the evil counterpart to the puppet factory. With the nerf I imagine it's a much more pleasant run through without getting two shotted by the tentacle head carcasses. And it was nice to finally get the mines/ruins they kept blabbing about in the main game after the Relic area turned out to be a shitty little cave with the furfag brotherhood. This is set before the puppet frenzy and there's really not much else to do with them, but they still managed to have a lot of puppet enemies with the arche puppet thing. If anything I wish they had a new enemy type with the stuff in the ruins before the alchemists turned them to carcasses.

The damage makes parrying/perfect guarding way too risky, but if you haven't noticed they also paired it with more aggressive tracking and punishing of heals/dodges. I relied on the Aegis and spear combo more than I'd like to admit.

There is a very good reason it's called Overtuned. I went ahead and beat the Abbey after finishing the DLC and it way WAY easier actually. Even the NP is a joke compared to some of the miniboss damage.

I managed to figure out half of the final mystery before the dungeon but the other half through me for a loop, especially having experience with the Danganronpa series... Though I found the conundrum of what to do with the truth the most interesting part the end.
The final boss is what I think all of the dungeon bosses should have been like, because you're not just fighting a kind of strawman cooked up by the labyrinth.
