When someone comments "this is just like xkcd N", I don't look up the number or consult my memory. I just imagine the most appropriate xkcd comic for the situation and assume I'm right.

if you can share, how did you land on your goal number? There seems to be a few conflicting studies when I look online.

What's the opposite of vibe coding? Maybe Merveilles should be about that ;)

My simple personal search engine is now public on GitHub! I hope you find it useful like I have.
I plan on adding some config options in the coming days.

The second stupidest thing about these tariffs is that they begin at 12:01 AM. Why do governments always do this? The day begins at 12!

I'm finally ready to release my desktop image dithering app, Dithertime! 🌟
It's more accurate, correct, and extensive than any other image dithering software out there. And it's fast too!
I've been working on it nights and weekends for a year, and I'm excited to have created a paid app for the first time.
Check it out at https://makew0rld.itch.io/dithertime 👈

the idea of "petnames" described in the paper requires infrastructure for being able to see names that your friends set. Otherwise every contacts app would count as petnames, but that's not the case.

but can you see your friend's address book within yours? That's what makes petnames special. I don't recall I2P being able to do that.

Bluesky has apparently "temporarily paused ingesting commits from federated PDSes" so the bridge is not working. Almost like one company holds all the power...

For some context on how wacky this is:
> Lehman said that the "hardest part" of his work at Tlon had been to distance Urbit from Yarvin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urbit#Politics_and_controversy
Him starting the project has always cast a shadow, but ostensibly it could be ignored after he left a leadership role. Now there will be a strong social cost with associating with Urbit at all.

2024-09-19 14:15:53 GMT

Big news in my inbox today from the Urbit Newsletter: Curtis Yarvin has returned to the project. Apparently this happened in late August. This is pretty shocking news and will probably be a make-or-break moment for the project.

Anyone got a good way to keep lists of POIs, restaurants, bars, etc in the city on a map? It looks like Google Maps is the best solution but I'm wondering if there's anything nice that is not that.

It looks like Simple Mobile Tools (those orange Android apps) have been forked after the buyout so they can continue to have a non-corporate home. The suite is now called Fossify.
