Ha, I went to a hot spring for birthday last weekend. Reading, soaking, a modicum of quiet conversation...

Asia Labour School starts next week!
Among the courses is one on worker cooperation facilitated by me and @npub1pd6…xqql
Please circulate this among friends active in Asian labor and social movements.

@npub177f…6uyx looking for references for a co-op that is preparing to discuss its policy about AI use. Varying levels of familiarity with llms and tech. What are a few pieces you would recommend specifically with regard to co-ops? (Including your own ;-)

Friends -- one way to support GEO.Coop is to use it! You can start by subscribing for free to our email newsletter: https://newsletter.geo.coop/subscription/form

Social.coop friends! We had our most excellent first social.coop & cosocial.ca hackathon today.
One topic we discussed was language -- we want to encourage people to participate in the language of their choice. Both Mastodon and Loomio have translation features, so feel free.
If you indicate your languages on your profile, people may find it easier to start conversations in other languages.

@npub1vdx…qz77 How was the event? Feeling disenshitified?

Of course, but this is a new technology that is leading to massive new data center construction...

We need to take seriously the moment we are in, when we can resist the proliferation of this system. On environmental grounds alone we can refuse to support this massively destructive technology.

Good chat with @npub1pd6…xqql, planning our course on Cooperation. It should be fun and learner-centered, with a good mix of theory and practice.
Notice of the course went up late, so if you know people in Asia who might be interested, please urge them to check out https://labourschool.org/

You can also report the issue in the meet.coop forum. See this report, for example: https://forum.meet.coop/t/sound-and-video-connectivity-problems/1696

Hi Nithin, I reached out to WebTV.coop, which hosts and runs Meet.coop. I'll let you know what they say.

All teared up watching an NHK documentary about an NPO cram school that supports mixed kids that reminds me of some of the spects of Japanese culture that I love, as much as I oppose the overall Japanese education system.
The teacher who commits herself so utterly to her students reminds me of many activists I got to know in the workers and cooperative movements.

Social.coop would not exist in its present form without the efforts of trans folks to make it a safer space, starting with demanding changes in policy and practice now reflected in our Code of Conduct and our moderation and membership ops.

The two editions of A Troublemaker's Handbook are full of useful tips for resisting and organizing. Good material for federal employees these days. Do you work for a non-profit? They're also useful for you. Plenty of ways to fight back and win.

Opening a pixelfed account on [@milpamerica.org](https://milpamerica.org/site/kb/instance-actor ) has been a great way to reflect on onboarding.
It's my first real experience of federation.
It is a cooperative, but I don't know how to find basic info about governance, finances, policies, how to participate, etc. (The description in El Pais sounds great, though. https://english.elpais.com/international/2024-12-25/milpamerica-a-social-network-for-resisting-the-musk-algorithm.html)
"About this instance" should be at the top of the Getting Started list in every Mastodon instance, with a link to a wiki or such.

Any cooperative pixelfed instances out there?
