It is already running on catodon.rocks, yes (but still WIP, will most certainly have some issues).
Admins can allow their server to be used for signing in with external accounts only (without needing a local account), but it is off by default. I just enabled it on catodon.rocks so you can sign in without a Catodon account.

I'm back from vacation and have started fully working again towards the next Catodon stable release, which will probably be 26.9.0 - I decided to add a couple more major features, plus there are a few bugs reported on codefloe, so I don't think we can make it for August.
BUT! Catodon.rocks now has multi server accounts - meaning you can not only switch between local catodon accounts, but you can also connect your Mastodon, Misskey, Pixelfed, Friendica etc accounts and use them through Catodon's UI! There is also a masonry layout added for the new Media timeline, based on the feedback we got in [this post](https://catodon.rocks/notes/aph0tow3dgqa0c62). Both features include significant changes and there will definitely be some bugs, so please test them and report anything that seems off to you or you think could be improved. It will take a little time to iron everything out, but 26.9.0 will be a huge step for Catodon!

I totally respect Codeberg's decision to disallow projects with mostly AI-generated code - we should all be doing things the way we want, especially in open source. I am very thankful to Codeberg for hosting us until now, and I want to avoid github like the plague, so I will most probably set up a forgejo instance for Catodon (and a couple of other projects) in the coming days. Hopefully, this should also give our repo better uptime.

You might have noticed that I've been working at an extreme rate lately - doing 10 hours or more each day. I want to get some stuff done before I have some vacations with my partner, then I've been invited to talk about the Fediverse at a self-organized camping in Crete, then I have a sex positive gathering scheduled in Berlin. So I spent the last several days working at this rate in order to chill a little in the coming weeks - I'll try to still work on Catodon, but not sure how consistent I will be. So this period is an exception (for the summer).
In the meantime, following hashtags is also coming 😁

You can now test both features =)
To demonstrate custom timelines, I have added !catodon-talks as a separate timeline for all users - you can add Custom feeds, Lists, RSS feeds and forums as timelines, and set any timeline as Home!

Due to other obligations irl, and because the new features were time-consuming, we didn't make it in time for 26.6.0, so the next Catodon version will be 26.7.0. The new features are: Federated blogs, native Mastodon API support and automatic alt text generation in collaboration with altbot. I have merged the latest development version on catodon.rocks, and all three features are now live. Please test them and give feedback and bug reports - when things are ready we'll release 26.7.0-rc.0, and if everything looks ok we'll hit stable.

And for my next trick: Catodon forums.
Yep. I'm bringing the threadiverse to the misskeyverse.

Now that Catodon is finally rolling, I often think of the time when Firefish exploded, in 2023. There were waves of Twitter "refugees" coming for a while and, while most didn't stay, there was an enthusiasm that we're building something that will attract and welcome more and more people. Somewhere along the way, I feel that this vibe has died. And, on one hand, I know we're building something that has the foundations to be alive in the long run, and that's better than being a short term trend... on the other hand I sometimes miss that enthusiasm and optimism for fedi. Can we have some more of that, please?

I'm gonna make Catodon so good, it will be hard to ignore - promise.

I think that 26.03 was a good start, but 26.04 is where Catodon will really start shining and showing what it brings to the table. Give me a few weeks and I'll show you something really nice =)

Alright, now that the DM page is up, I just started working on the next big feature I want to add for 26.04 - more in a few days 😁

OK, hope this goes well 😅 - first time doing this, so please don't be harsh if anything goes wrong. I've done all the testing I could, but if you see any bugs, please just let me know. If needed, I'll do a follow-up hotfix release.
So, what else can I say? A few months ago I thought Catodon was a dead project, so this is a bit surreal. But here we are - I've worked my ass off for the last couple of months, and I hope you like this. I still have some major features coming up in the next releases, so this will only get better, but I'm really proud of this first release too. Anything that annoyed you in Firefish or Sharkey is probably fixed here (and if not, let me know what it is so that I can address it in the next releases!). This is the fedi software I wanted to use for myself day-to-day, and I've made the experience as smooth as I could. It will make me purr with joy if other people enjoy this as well. Cheers =)

The time has come and I'm beyond excited 😁
We just opened registrations on [catodon.rocks](https://catodon.rocks/).
I know that Catodon created a lot of expectations when Firefish fell apart, and I'm sure many of you were disappointed to see it not going anywhere for a long time. This time I am doing it on my own, so things will happen the way they should have. And, although you can now check it out for youselves, I will say this: I firmly believe that it's better, on every level, than Firefish ever was. I was in both projects, I love them both, but Catodon combines the best features of Firefish and Sharkey, while also being very debloated, being much more comprehensible, and adding actually useful stuff - and I have more plans for the future.
I'd love to hear your feedback on the UX of Catodon, and see how we can improve it further! Let's create the fedi experience we deserve =)
