hot is better than cold because if it's hot you can put out solar panels to power cooling devices. if it's cold then it's typically darker so you have less solar energy and need to burn materials that are typically non-renewable or require a lot of infrastructure costs to get to you

it's kind of crazy but i didn't really realize that the industrial parts of louisiana aren't really real democratic counties or whatever because they're so corrupt with big business that they just ignore their constituency and poison the poor people there that happen to basically all be black. so at least those parts of louisiana aren't even like real places. but i haven't visited so i'm just going off of what other people have said about those areas
i think i'm just used to the black people in these areas, i think it's when you start getting north of alabama or places like indiana is where you'll actually get malignant racism

i'm glad you can feel that way because a lot of people can't anymore, but like isn't it your fellow countrymen who are the ones banning whatever they consider hate speech online? maybe you don't have an interesting in motorcycles and guns and don't mind them being restricted, but aren't you already going against your countrymen on fedi? if it's just blood and soil there's nothing you can do except accept what they are already saying, right?

we have too many europeans in the us now. but i don't mean actual europeans, these are people that want to live in their pod in a city or some suburb, the government to ban non organic food, give free healthcare, magically have trains but don't ban cars, and have the federal government fix everything they disagree with about the state government, and of course, ban guns. however, these people would never in a million years actually move to a country that has these things, because even they know deep down that those systems don't work as well as the US. so instead they try to fuck up the one country in the entire world where I can conceal carry everywhere as someone not on a military post (the only other exception ive heard is czech repub and im pretty sure they have the usual must be a gun club must have safe inspections blah blah). every other country that supposedly has gun ownership has so many goddamn restrictions and normies instead just want to eat slop in their suburbs and complain when theyre not turned into canada yet. honestly I think the US will turn into this soon enough, already the south is half northenized and may end up flipping blue from suburban sprawl from these pseudoeuropeans. this is why i dislike germans, but i don't want you to feel attacked specifically because its not really germans that are particularly like this, basically all other european countries have all this bureaucracy where everything is mandated behind government mafias and god forbid you have something with some actual power behind it, whether its a powerful motorcycle or free speech or a gun. i really wish we could just ship these people to their desired neoliberal "countries" so the rest of us could finally live our lives. i get that you like germany over america, but there are a lot of other places to live in the countryside of some overregulated euro state. and as far as I'm aware, there's literally nowhere else I can go with my AR15s and shit. if the US explodes then it will literally be over for us. maybe the only solution is to move to alaska at that point where I just have to freeze to death in the north just so other people don't try and ban my guns cuz polar bears

if ur printer is a crap ender 3 then it's another story but for the most part it's just knowing a couple basic design/printing principles like not printing things that are impossible to print like giant overhangs with no support or not having enough bed adhesion and how the strength from layer lines will affect the final part but it's pretty easy compared to most mechanical engineering/makering stuff

doesn't really matter if it's not like an edge or a thin wire* when you're talking about such small acceleration in an ion rich environment (nearish vacuum gas atmosphere)

2026-03-08 21:13:22 GMT

- reply

the space ones usually use electrostatic fields. but if you have a charged plate it doesn't really matter, unless it's a totally independent plate floating along in space, it will have electrostatic forces in some directors more than others, which if all the shit is on the front, then any stray ions will get pushed out the other way

2026-03-08 21:08:41 GMT

- reply

i mean if you're going to need to keep a plate charged to 30k volts for hours that will also use a lot of energy depending on the parasitic losses, but if you're not scooping a lot of ions then you won't use lose any charge for the thrust anyways.
there might not be a lot of particles outside of low earth orbit but there's definitely still a lot (relatively to none) of particles, the only reason we can see a lot of nebulas is because there's random hydrogen and sometimes helium ions in the middle of empty space
but it should be really easy to tell how much of their thrust corresponds to the particle density of the atmosphere they're testing in, this really should be easy to tell without needing to send something to space

2026-03-08 20:54:32 GMT

- reply

i mean true but also throw another one up that uses some scoops to scoop up very low density gas particles and funnel it into an ion generator and see if that does any better or worse

2026-03-08 20:46:27 GMT

- reply

well now i'm seeing that he's claiming that it goes in the opposite direction of ion wind so something fucky is maybe happening but i wouldn't put it past their weird test setup, maybe they really just need to shoot this thing out into space pretty far
