@nprofile…t6lw multi year planned project that uses little of any fule that would be used for power.
How useful or important it is, I don't know, my expectation is that is to look for a new source of helium, but it may simply be for this:

@nprofile…3qha @nprofile…dqhd I'm looking at it as respect for your time. Giving up is fine, but be honest and let you know so you aren't wasting your time waiting on them just for them not to show up.

@nprofile…3qha @nprofile…dqhd I forgot what the term is, but it's a normal psychological thing where not paying for it makes it feel like it's not valuable so they treat it (and you) as such. That intrinsic motivation isn't there without feeling like they are losing something.
Similar reason a bunch of us couldn't be bothered to get good grades I think.
If you want to do it from kindness, charge something if they miss a meeting maybe.

Update frequency either way isn't a very good metric. Maybe bugs and security vulnerabilities needing frequent patches, but never getting them is just a program not being used or not maintained.
I think it's actually pretty hard to judge it unless you have access to the source.

@nprofile…mphq Another thing to look at is lemmy, it's similar to a reddit type service also on the fediverse. The one I use is lemmy.world, but there are others. We don't want to get too many people on any particular one because the person running the service has to be able to afford to keep it running and bandwidth is a big part of the cost for big instances.

Take a broader look at the rest of what was going on in places where peaceful protest did the work. It's after the fact that it gets credit, there are other things going on that give the history and the winners a reason to push it out of the books so peaceful protest gets the credit.

The abstraction level getting further from the metal has made office run as slow on computers as it did in the 90s, llms will continue that trend of making it so that the skills to make something decent will lapse and we'll spend another decade or two treading water while burning more resources.

@nprofile…27v3 @nprofile…ppe2 I see the biggest issues being that they will attempt to make the first teir new guys disappear to cut costs and then do the floor for pay because everyone will be running scared.
Next will be the atrophy of basic skills because the llm does a good enough job and you don't actually need to know how to do the thing and it will be good enough.
