I was on Firefox on Android at the time. Just saw this and checked again, seems okay now? Was something fixed? The other day literally nothing did anything on the hamburger stack drop-down - you would just click and nada. Glad it's working now and thanks for chiming in.

It's a long weekend ... guess I will hack my legacy #emailserver to include stun/turn for #deltachat and when that's done ... time to spin up a separate #chatmail server.

Okay, this is cool and interesting, but it's definitely not self host video chat with complete privacy and control. This is using someone else's stun and turn server so although a solution, it's not truly addressing the particular side case @npub1d93…cnl2 and I were discussing.

I think you are still kind of missing the point. You asked why to use DC instead. I answered directly that if you already build email servers as a trade that it is a no brainer. This is because you don't need to spin up Matrix and/or XMPP - you simply download a DC client and authenticate. Hence, no brainer.
I did additionally mention some limitations and side points about DC - but that was editorializing and extra information that has nothing to do with your question per se. The point is simple ... have email already, DC is no brainer.
At any rate, I enjoy your posts and wish you well. Thanks for the fun reads.

Using Delta Chat, which was your question. Delta Chat only requires an email server, so if you already have one because you build and make them as part of your work, it is a no brainer to use DC and benefit from self-hosted E2EE and easy comms. You get full privacy and control and E2EE - that's a huge benefit over the other platforms you mentioned. The only drawbacks are:
1) You don't self-host so now you don't get the privacy and/or control
2) Delta Chat lacks mature group / moderation controls
3) Delta Chat lacks proper integrated video chat, but/and it does do Jitsi
4) Delta Chat is slightly weaker on meta data leaks than some other offerings (e.g., Simplex)
But, as per your question ... if you already have a self-hosted email server and domain ready to go, DC is a no brainer for an immediate switch and likely a net positive for privacy, control, and E2EE.
NOTE: All the same applies whether it is a legacy email server and/or chatmail.

If you already build and make self-hosted email servers, it is a no brainer. They just need to figure out mod/group controls.

📜 Going live now to setup nextcloud (including a self-hosted mail server) and after that a gitlab. These will be public registration offerings. I really hope to go live later today - progress has been slow as the link-tree'esque service page took surprisingly long.
🍿 This means it is also a door dash day (sorry, not sorry) as I will maximize output by having some lovely local food delivered. Although I wish there was floss-based infra for food delivery, I am nevertheless impressed that DoorDash does food trucks and local hole in the wall places.
🔨 Alright, time to get to work! Come on by and hang in chat, lurk, whatever. Happy to have visitors as it always passes the time better. Also, no suggestions on music and you can get over the fact that I use nano + keybindings right meow 😂

🖼️ A wild NVIDIA RTX 2000 w/ 16GB and native AV1 transcoding support has arrived‼️
✍️ We are pleased to announce that we secured this excellent condition used GPU for the PeerTube instance. After @npub14g3…z6g8 traveled up to Brown Rice Data Center and installed it and passed it through to the virtualized PT, Lord @npub1lfc…akqq took care of customizing the JSON for the ffmpeg logic and did some tinkering under the hood so that PT would be efficient in its choices. Efficient hardware AV1 transcoding is now live.
💡 We still have slots open for registration and the quoted post below shows our starting quotas and limits. More is available upon request or for justified use-cases. As a reminder, the GNUTube requires members to be posting either floss content and/or for supporting floss organizations. Linux gamers and benchmarkers are also welcome.

:haacknet: Haack's Networking - Drawing Tablets & X11/Wayland :haacknet:
🖥️ It is nice to see that my Gaomon tablets work right out of the box under KDE 6.6, Debian 14, and Wayland ...
🎉 Massive thanks to the #wayland #redhat team and also a shout to @npub16ys…sjae who recently dropped his Interim setup which first clued me in to "mouse mode" being on the horizon for stable 💘 (finally)
✅️ Sure enough, in Debian Testing w/ Wayland, the "Drawing Tablet" setting in KDE 6.6 automagically works with the following Gaomon tablets with no proprietary driver installed:
1️⃣ MK 2018
2️⃣ PD 1161
💡 The last two years were choppy and I even had to write a custom X config for the MK 2018 to teach an applied math course. Until recently, seeing no progress on the horizon for "out of the box" functionality, I had settled on @npub1wj9…gx3h @npub1252…8len and was quite happy. In fact, very grateful to them for getting me by this last year - mucho thanks. #xlibre #sonicde #sonic
🏁 But, at the end of the day, I really need mainstream / stock Debian to just work with drawing products, not just for me ... but for my daughter's art projects - she just got her art accepted at @npub15p3…t80e and I'm very proud of her. We rely on these products - there's no denying. At present:
Dascha uses:
1) X1 Carbon 4th Gen - using KDE neon stable (art attached that she did at 13 for ffmpeg)
2) HP All-In-One Touch i5 - using KDE neon stable
All working better natively in Wayland than under the prop driver. They work similarly well to how they work in X now.
Jonathan (me) uses:
1) 3x mini Ryzen PCs - KDE 6.6, Debian Testing, and Wayland - 1 w/ PD 1161 and 2 w/ MK 2018 - all working including "mouse mode" under wayland / stock Debia (art / teaching).
2) Dell 1950 laptop 2023 i7 w/ NVIDIA - had to manually build the nvidia driver under latest on their website, other than that no issues, running Debian Testing, Wayland, KDE 6.6 - MK 2018 works via USBC hub for teaching
3) X1 Carbon 4th gen i5 - Debian Testing, KDE 6.6, Wayland - works with Wacom stylus similar to Dascha's setup no issues
⁉️ How did this happen? I was fixing an old Precision 7920 and setting it up as a PeerTube runner on Lubuntu 26.04 (better with NVIDIA lol). I got bored and installed Kubuntu Desktop and then pluggeed in an MK 2018. It worked ... & so I started testing and researching KDE point releases & looking back at Mr. Revoy's post and switched all 7 machines over in < 48 hours.

RE: https://gnulinux.social/@oemb1905/116726705385408319
This is far less worrisome than I originally thought. In short, DeltaChat is now requiring that all incoming messages arrive in the Inbox. Although they deprecated "move to DeltaChat" folder some time ago, the logic still worked if you made the sieve rule yourself. As of Monday, that is no longer permitted. I removed the custom rules I had made 4?? months ago, and everything is working again.
Thanks to @npub17gp…nrxn for the speedy responses and professional support. I was almost in full melt down! 😆 🙃

Looks like I need to set the family and business up with all new Delta Chat groups, channels, etc. They are all broken on mobile and won't receive (but can send). Why? Because I had custom sieve rules keeping things tidy under the hood and that folder-based logic is inside the db/keys for those profiles. Created a new clean profile and all works, so issue confirmed in conjunction with release notes. My profiles were all dedicated for only Delta Chat, but mere folder use and org deprecated them.

The anti-AI dogma is kinda cringe. Again, it's just free form input/output statistical software. It is not designed to replace synthesis or creation, that's still the human's job. It's supposed to help with summation, analysis, and busy work. Watch your confirmation bias and always be the final arbiter of quality and the finished product. It's not difficult, folks.

For my shop machine, I'm now actively testing Debian 14 Testing w/ Xlibre and SonicDE. So far, so good. I use this machine for client work and it also gets to be my guinea pig for testing drawing tablet workflows. Both native Xlibre (via wacom) and Gaomon's proprietary driver work. I'm impressed with how snappy SonicDE is - first time using it today. Great work folks‼️

Did you consider Xlibre on Debian? I used your 2023 setup for my daughter's drawing laptop on a yoga but then upgraded to an x1 and with Xlibre + Debian 13 it all works, same with my desktop setups, no changes required really, just installed Xlibre and done. I saw in your article you had moving from X as a requirement ... so just curious what drives that decision? Mainstream support? Other? Thanks for your articles and write ups; my daughter and I would die without them.

Integration efforts (for public schools) died in a Supreme Court ruling made in 1991 (began 1985 I believe); Thurgood Marshall was part of the dissenting opinion.
