Ready to help someone move house?
New members can create an account directly on toot.wales via the app.
If they want a different neighborhood or a custom domain, send them here: https://croeso.toot.wales/en/server-directory/
The goal isn't to lock people in - it’s to give them an all-access pass to the open social web.

Why #TŵtCymru? Because old social has run its course.
We've built a Social Web app. It runs on Mastodon, but it’s designed to talk to the entire open web - Bluesky, Pixlfed, PeerTube, WordPress, and beyond.
We’re connecting Wales to the world, from Cardiff to Calgary to Calcutta. It’s a local identity with global reach.
And with our friends at @npub142g…kmy5 we hope to see many more apps like this in the near future, more front doors for more communities.

2026-03-01 10:22:51 GMT

#Cardiff - what a night!
We wrapped an incredible launch event and the #TootWales Android app is officially live!
Reading this means you already have your home on the Social Web, but we built this for your friends and family who’ve stayed away because it felt too technical.
The new app is a welcoming front door for anyone who wants an easy option to poke their head in and see what's what.

"we're building a thing that cannot enshittify" - @npub1hg6…nwn8 introducing our wonderful message from @npub1fdr…lvhs who shares why we need the open social web and how important it is to have portability built in.

Next up is @npub142g…kmy5 to share more about their Apps For Change program which the new #TootWales app is a part of.
We've loved working with them just as much as they have with us. Team work to make the Social Web accessible for more people.

The welcome speech from @npub1hg6…nwn8 included a big thank you to the moderators here at Team Twt.
Our moderators are real people who are part of the Twt community who are also at the event wearing their Twt Wales t-shirt so you can meet them and chat to them in person too!

We've had a few questions about Wrapstodon, a year-end feature that gives you the opportunity to request a summary of your year on Tŵt.
This is currently an experimental feature and should be available to all servers - including ours - in the next major Mastodon update (version 4.6).

We are still crunching the database indexes and are aware of ongoing issues with loading replies and posting new toots. Please bear with us until everything is completed before we can fully assess if there are any underlying issues not related to the migration we need to address.

2025-01-22 17:07:33 GMT

We are back online but will continue to be slow while our service continues the database migration and we catch up on the jobs we missed during the downtime.
Apologies for the longer than expected outage.
