POS chains can't handle inscriptions. Arbitrum shit down for 15 minutes and Avalanche had transaction costs go from pennies to over $20. The fact that Bitcoin can handle it (all be it with a little stress) is a positive, it's a proof of pow. Time stamping is utility and utility is king. The hype and garbage stuff will dye out, some art and value items will continue. The lessons and use cases are set in stone. Overall this is a positive for Bitcoin.

I got it free in 2009/10 don't remember exactly. Bought maybe $10 worth, but it was free, so wasn't a need. I'm not new and not against Bitcoin. I think it's the most beautiful tech of of century. It's freedom tech. I had high hopes for it and still think it will be a standard layer under many daily transactional layers in the future. It's just very disappointing to see the new class of the last few years be so closed minded, controlling, refusing innovation, salty and petty about new iterations, experiments and free markets. It's boomercoin now, stagnant with gatekeepers and a community that worships figureheads and slogans. Just sad man.

That's incorrect. In the physical space copies have been made many times and fakes. It takes teams of experts and carbon dating and they still get it wrong. On the blockchain the creation and sale are immutably recorded forever. Provenance is everything in art. It's perfect provenance.

Coming from the digital art space this is wrong, but comes to the correct conclusion. It won't be a problem if Bitcoin is ever used as currency because it will price out 99% of creators and collectors. The scarcity part is way off, there's plenty of scarcity in the digital space and plenty of collectors including from the trad art world and institutions. I've heard lightening was having problems, they'll have to figure it out, but main chain will price it out.

I agree with everything here except calling it individualism. I've rarely seen such a tight pack mentality than in Bitcoiners. Centralized opinions and thoughts to the extreme in my experience. Getting a lot of comments that basically say all the issues and suggestions people have are for clients, not nostr and this mentality is a block. Nostr is just a bunch of nodes sitting in the dark without clients. User interaction with the protocol is all that matters after you have the protocol set up and a network of relays. That's the foundation and it's great. (This is mirrored in Bitcoin, same mental block) making your clients useable and useful is everything, especially social apps which are a jump off point to everything else. You have all built a great beginning and I want to see it succeed. Marketing is easy. Making a product people will use is hard.

I'll add these examples from farcaster, which I think is getting a lot of these things right. Channels and the client list on their website are two huge advantages.
Channels shown here, easy to search and one click join and pin the top and for each post you can specify a channel. It's slick.

My experience as a decentralizion enthusiast who is fairly tech savvy and was excited about the possibilities of nostr: it has boomer energy, difficult discoverability (of people, topics, and all the awesome "apps"), it puts too much on the user. No ability to protect yourself from bad actors.
Boomer energy: stuck on ideology in a faith without works kind of way. This comes from the Bitcoin mentality ie "this is the future, it's the way and the light" ...but it hasn't solved peer to peer completely after 15 years.
Discover: search and community is lacking, reliant on hashtags you have to stumble on.
User ask: average user is retarded, I'm retarded most days, just let me click around I don't want to write a program myself to do basic tasks.
Good things: vibe is friendly, builders ship a lot and fast, zaps are cool, ui is better than blue sky, minds, mastodon, urbit etc

I know these people and they have been mocked and turned away. The atmosphere itself is "dont come over here." What really matters is decentralization. It's not greed to work and invest where you can make a living and put food on the table. Better other chains than fiat imo. Even your response is salty at the mere mention of nonspecified people. I know maxis have this culture and clout is gained by being the most hard core and most exclusive, but its a detriment in the long run. So, the economy is kind of fucked. US, but it's all tied up globally. It's not just houses this time, it's credit cards and loans record high with very low spending. Just save what you can. If you're comfortable, prepare for tight times. If your payday to payday, cut everything you can and save, in bitcoin would probably be safer. If everything turns out fine the worst case is you saved. I expect propping up till after the election, if they can.

Do you think privacy will be preferable or even possible if technology keep current track? When there's 100 daily users, you can moderate your own feed. It's a group chat. When you have 100s of thousands or millions you'll probably want some tools to help. It's not censorship to give users tools and options that help them moderate their experience. Opt-in tools are the key here, algorithm choice, mute bots, some secret third thing I'm not tech savvy enough to think of.
