2025-07-24 14:40:59 GMT

Man... the Atheism movement is so fucked.
Christopher Hitchens died.
Daniel Dennett died.
Sam Harris' brain probably turned to mush over his obsession with Trump. Can't remember the last time I heard him say a word on Atheism related topics. He will occasionally attack Islam if prompted, but it has only been if the topic is Israel-Gaza. I haven't heard him say something about UK's issues for instance. So conclusion, Sam Harris is useless now.
Richard Dawkins (was my personal favorite of the bunch) is literally afraid to speak anymore. He's been given the opportunity to talk on the UK Muslim thing, and he just refused.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali literally declared herself Christian, because she realized Atheism got completely cucked.
That's what happened with the "horseman of Atheism".
Now let's look at some of the minor figures.
David Silverman was literally falsely MeToo-ed out of the movement, and went into selling insurance or something like that. By his claims, he's making good money.
Matt Dillahunty went locco even before Harris, and I think was involved in canceling Silverman.
Seth Andrews, I've stopped following him a while ago out of boredom, but I occasionally see some of his episode titles, and it doesn't inspire confidence that his brain is still fully functional. He's not innocent on the Silverman thing either. But at least he was just a cucked that believed all women, and wasn't an attack dog.
TJ Kirk... Need I say more?
Hemant Mehta is a douchebag creep (by my own experiences).
Aron Ra, turns out he's also a complete scumbag. Also got involved in cancelling people.
Thunderf00t's brain has broken over his obsessions with Elon and Trump. He hasn't done anything Atheism related maybe for a decade.
Hugo and Jake... one got so fat that he gaslight himself into thinking he's trans, and the other went insane (literally put on a banana suit in the middle of an online debate).
The Armoured Skeptic is the weirdest conspiracy theorist you've met. Complete "history isn't what they tell you it is" levels. Not Antisemitic mind you, so no claims of false history surrounding that. Just everything else.
C0ct0pus (from the Goddamn Podcast) now does weird drama streams about some random fat ugly bastards.
And there's so many other small YT channels I'm still aware of that just disappeared since forever ago.
Like seriously, from the biggest figures in the movement, to the smallest guys I know, they either died, became deranged, or just moved on to something else and abandoned the cause.

@nprofile…7ytg I don't even blame tbh. I've ranted a few times about how stupidly wasteful they are with their reencodes, keeping around old options that barely anyone (if not outright no one) uses anymore. They should be cleaning house. But they probably still went for the wrong option.
Can't imagine them having any significant amount of users whose devices can't play vp9. I really think they should ax h264 instead. Keep it only for livestreaming, since it works better for fast encoding/low latency, but switch to vp9 for long term offering.

2025-07-23 12:33:59 GMT

Huh.. made an interesting discovery. Old YouTube streams (1-2 years old) that previously had a vp9 encoding (something I KNOW for certain, since I have downloads of those streams) now only have h264 encodings (verified with yt-dlp but also in browser). I guess they're trying to save disk space. Very interesting though.
My guess (how I'd do things), they probably have some cleaup utility, where if a video wasn't played for long enough, it will delete all encodings except what is needed for maximum compatibility.
Not the first time I tried to (re)download an old stream, but this is the first time I noticed codecs missing from YouTube's repertoire. Must be a cost cutting measure.

Yup. Probably the best position to have in general. My conclusion thus far on ideologies is that any single ideology is prone to be faulty and inadequate for building and maintaining societies on its own, because of the single fact that no single ideology will be able to completely explain and account for all the diversity of human behavior and interactions.
To give an example, communism, as an ideology, will always fail because it doesn't account for the fact that people can be selfish. Pure conservatism fails because humans like to try new things, experiences, so you can't restrict them to the same old traditions, culture, way of doing things. Pure progressive liberalism fails simply because humans are not equal in ability and some are capable of great evil. And so on.
Combine aspects from many ideologies, and you might be able to make a good society, because you balance things, and cover the holes of one ideology with another. But at that point, you're starting to no longer follow an ideology, and you're simply testing out policies that society can flourish in, without having an underlying explanatory theory/ideology, that predicts, models and explains why these policies work.

We don't have this in my part of Europe. I've seen a couple of such math examples over the years, and... tbh completely honest, I do find some of them as neat examples of how to think differently about math. And I would have liked to be shown some of them as a kid.
BUT, a kid shouldn't be graded on whether he understood and can apply the random common core tricks (which from what I've seen, they apparently are). Just give him 63x9, and let him choose whatever method he wants to solve that.
If he can draw the rectangles on paper, or in his mind, as fast or faster than I can use the traditional method, why stop him from using it? I think it can be useful to show different methods, just in case one of them clicks better for someone than the traditional method, and they are faster then they would have been otherwise.
BUT DON'T waste too much class time on this. Show the thing once, let the kids know they can also do things this way if they like, but don't linger on it. And don't try to grade them on knowing all the methods. At the end of the school year, they really should just know the one that is fastest for them. And just grade the fucking end result.

They're authoritarians. They can't stand that someone else doesn't have their politics. They think their politics create the best products, and they'll force you to use those products as proof of how good they are. You refusing to switch to Wayland is akin to defying the communist regime. They cannot, and will not, stand for it.
People under soviet communism weren't able to buy western goods not because they couldn't afford them. Not because the west wasn't willing to export them. But because the regime refused to allow its subjects to be exposed to something else they could view as better. They needed the subjects to believe that communist goods were superior. And the only way to do that was to forbid their access to alternatives.
Because if the communist subjects get to see outside goods are better, then they might revolt and overthrow the regime. And we can't have that.
Notice the similarity? You're not allowed to use X11, or XLibre, because it might just lead to people saying "y'all are frauds that are making things worse".

Not wanting DEI is probably an ideology for them. They likely associate a distaste for progressivism, marxism, socialism, communism, etc., with conservatism (which in their view is fascism of course). So for them not liking DEI=fascist. That's the ideology they proclaim to oppose.

I generally think it's a cultural thing. I've seen an insane number of examples of black parents (usually mothers), teaching their children how cops are evil. You get enough of that rhetoric growing up, and it sticks, and you end up doing dumb things. Not to mention that there's a general thug culture that has developed in black communities for decades.
It makes an interesting contrast with Asian honor cultures. In one, you gain status if you can brake the law and avoid law enforcement, in the other you maintain your honor if you literally kill yourself over doing something wrong.

Replace "Jewish" with "American feminism" and I guess so.
Though I honestly think the "prevent families from forming" is a side effect. I don't think the people that started doing this were smart enough to figure out this would happen.
I just view it as a "feminists sabotage other women out of self-interest, with complete disregard to what happens to other people or society at large".
It doesn't take a conspiracy theory to fuck up the world, just enough people that don't consider, or care about, the consequences of their actions.

Did I accidentally crack the code?
In their natural environment, women are in competition with each other over attracting the best man. But feminism gets them to compete with men instead. This tricks the more beautiful and capable women into wasting their energy somewhere else, potentially eliminating them from the dating market, while the more ugly, feminist types are left with less competition. Thus giving them an advantage in the mating game they wouldn't have had before.
This was a first thought as I woke up in the morning, so I'm sure there's holes and flaws in the reasoning. But it might be worth keeping in mind.

Almost two decades ago, I was going through a crisis of faith of sorts. I've always been interested in science. It butted heads with Christianity, and I couldn't figure out what's what.
Having access to the internet, I thought: we're in the age of digital cameras everywhere, and free flowing information. If god is real, and he makes miracles happen, proof HAS to be out there.
So I went looking for video proof of miracles. And I only managed to find the Western equivalent of this.
That's how I started down the path to atheism. People can keep believing in Jesus and god if they want. But I simply can't. After I've seen countless examples of this, there's no way I can look at religion and not think it's the longest running scam of mankind.

@nprofile…28xx Depending on how many items there are to cover, and how much you have to talk about, you should consider doing multiple videos. For example, one to cover the real history of the shields, one for swords, etc.
I haven't played Elden Ring, and I'm no historical weapon/armor enthusiast, so I don't know jack shit about what you'd cover here, so ultimately you'll have be the judge on how to structure your video(s). But if it goes longer than 15-20 minutes, it might be better to stretch across multiple videos.
Definitely a topic worth covering though. I don't really see many videos covering the real life inspiration for video game weapons/armor. Shadiversity might have some of that, but he focuses mainly on how the weapons would handle, and any historical comparisons are secondary.

Call me crazy, but I think the president of Mexico basically declared war on USA.
As the president of your nation, and the president of all those immigrants into US, both legal and illegal, that are rioting, your responsibility is to call on your citizens to stop protesting, and to urge them to allow you, their elected representative, to negotiate with US on their behalf.
The second you called on your citizens to mobilize, you effectively called on them to act as your military. You infiltrated your army within US borders, and now you're calling an attack against the sovereignty of a nation. You are calling for war. That is not acceptable.
This is one of those moments where I'm glad that I'm not American and that I don't live in USA. That I don't have to personally experience any of this shit. Previous federal administrations, and multiple state governments have allowed a dangerous status-quo to take root. They've allowed, or maybe even intentionally encouraged, the weakening of US sovereignty. And now we're seeing the results, where a foreign president dares encourage anarchists, terrorists and insurrectionists to crate chaos and destruction within your country.
So I'm definitely fucking glad that I'm not dealing with this shit in my life, and I hope Trump sends in the military to impose some quick order. Anything less won't be enough to reestablish long-term order.
The US, and even the entire world, cannot afford this riot to subside in a few weeks, only to start again in a few months, or next year. Nobody can afford that instability. It needs to be ENDED.

As a side note, this is your periodic reminder that there's more bad Star Wars cannon content than good Star Wars cannon content. As such, I say that this makes Star Wars an objectively bad franchise.

In retrospect, it's easy to identify Quinn as a murderous psychopath. But for everyone at that time, she was a "literally who". We didn't have any information on these people because they weren't public figures, and GG didn't have anyone that mingled alongside Zoe, Wu or Sarkeesian. Nobody really had an actual conversation with these people, to get to understand how they think.
Even for Sarkeesian, who was more out there than the other attention whores, it took years, until McIntosh left her and she was left doing (or rather failing at doing) content on her own, that it became clear how much of a sock puppet she had been all along.
Identifying a psychopath is not an easy task, and even now, we don't want to fall into the mental trap of calling "psychopath" anyone who disagrees with us, because that will lead us into the same self gaslighting pattern that the left went down.
I've seen the left doing it since the online atheist movement of late 2000s. At some point, they stopped actually responding to Christian arguments, and they'd just accuse anyone right-wing of being stupid, racist, sexist, etc., and they self gaslight into believing that being right-wing was in fact synonymous with anything bad. And I think this then allowed them to be vulnerable to psychopaths taking over.
Cause once they had formed this environment where left=good, and right=bad, all a psychopath needs to do to avoid suspicion is to claim he's on the good side, while using all their vile psychopathic tendencies to attack the right-wing. And since the right-wing are by definition bad, any kind of attack is justifiable. If anyone from the left looks at you, just scream "Black Lives Matter" louder, or put on a wig, and you'll avoid scrutiny.
Coming back to the original point, regarding the "literal whos" of Gamergate. By the time people realized what Quinn, or Wu, were actually capable of, it was a bit late, and they went back to not actually mattering in the grand scheme of things, cause they weren't the main driving force of the SJW/woke phenomenon anymore. They were just a couple of stupid broads that pocked their heads out a bit too early. The real driving force were corrupt journalists (not just gaming journalists), universities, consulting companies, entertainment companies that became corrupted with most people not realizing it, international organizations etc. The fight was much larger than a handful of psychopathic narcissist women.
Maybe if people kept their attention on Zoe, Alec Holowka would still be alive. But the fight quickly became much bigger, against an ideology that threatens the lives of many, many more people, to the point where, no offense intended, Alec Holowka doesn't matter as much.
Was Gamergate wrong in how it did things? Sure. I've been saying for years that Gamergate, as a movement, was a complete failure. But it's possible that part of the reason it was such a failure is because it was such an early battle in the "culture war".
People were unfamiliar with the ideological traps the left had created, people didn't realize how far the cult had spread, and "racist" was still powerful against everyone of all political persuasions.
Gamergate was doomed to fail because even if you had the right approach at that time (and I know @nprofile…d6d2 personally had, cause I remember his username/avatar from Twitter in those days) there were simply not enough "soldiers" willing to fight as hard as it was needed to accomplish anything.
We've seen today how much of a failure Concord was, because people were willing to call out the ideological driven uglification and all that. There were enough "soldiers" to spread the message, and everyone had been exposed to woke cult for long enough, to be receptive of the message "don't buy Concord".
Well, that didn't work for Mass Effect Andromeda, one of the earlier cases of woke ideology fucking up a game to the point of making women intentionally ugly. And it didn't work because people were simply incredulous. Normies hadn't been exposed to the shit for long enough to recognize the patterns. People weren't receptive to the message "don't buy this woke game" yet.
There might have been better ways in which Gamergate could have been fought, but I don't know if there was a legitimate chance for the results to be that much better. People who noticed Gamergate back then, were a select few who noticed something happening to the culture a decade before everyone else noticed. Not enough people to scream loud enough to make actual lasting change.
P.S. This is why I use Bing as a search engine, rather than Google. It actually understood the question and pulled info on Alec Holowka, the victim, instead of promoting the criminal.

I decided against posting this earlier, cause I thought it was kind cringe. But I changed my mind, cause I'm a bit pissed off by EU right now, so I'm gonna rant probably.
These are the results from the first round of presidential election do-over.
The guy in the first place is the "sovereign" "far-right" candidate, that took up the mantle of the banned candidate Călin Georgescu. AUR is a newish party, with a reputation of being loud and obnoxious. Not particularly bright either. George Simion is quite a fitting leader for them.
2nd and 3rd places are the pro-EU candidates.
Nicușor Dan ran as independent, although he was given support by the USR party (who basically back stabbed their own representative and party leader, Elena Lasconi, which came in 5th). He also used to be head of USR party, but they broke up at some point, don't really know.
The party itself is considered the "progressive" one, though they're kinda viewed as anti-establishment here, and they're not as well entrenched with the Bruxelles crowed as...
Crin Antonescu is the representative for the alliance of the old guard, the establishment, the main political parties with which EU is used to deal with here: PSD, PNL, and UDMR. UDMR is a minority party, of magyars (Hungarian minority), so it's not that big, but PSD (left-wing) and PNL (center-right... supposedly) are the big guns. They're the Tories and Labour of Romanian politics. And they've been eliminated from going in the second round.
However the second round goes, it really isn't what EU would have hoped for.
But for now, my bet is that they're gonna get the worst outcome for them. You see, I skipped talking about the 4th placed guy, Victor Ponta. The guy is a joke these days, but he ran on a similar platform to the #1 guy, George Simion. Which means... in round 2, most of his voters are expected to go to Simion. If you add the votes together, that's up to 5 million votes, or 53% of the total votes...
Not only has the pro-EU side been trounced, but the "sovereign" vote has actually increased since the cancelled 2024 election, when this camp had "only" 3.4 million votes.
Back in December, the pro-EU side still had a reasonable shot at banding together, uniting their forces and winning the 2nd round fair and square. Now they are severely fucked.
They can try to cancel these elections again... there's been a bit of mass media prodding to see how people would react to it. But there's nothing they can reasonably do that won't backfire immensely.
Right now, they may very well try to outright tamper with ballots and steal the election in the 2nd round. It has happened before, and even USR has been a part before of covering up some shitty business at local election level. But with this result, and with an even more disproportionate support of Simion in our diaspora (where they voted 60% in favor of him), it would be a figurative bloodbath if anyone even smells fraud.
This will be two interesting weeks for us.

Haven't payed attention to polls. I think Simion is leading, and Nicușor is second. I don't think Antonescu has a chance to get in the 2nd round.
And between Simion and Nicușor, it's hard to say what will happen. On one hand, I don't think Antonescu or Lasconi voters would all go to Nicușor, but I don't see them going for Simion either. But for anyone who genuinely believes the fear-mongering, they'll vote for Nicușor, and will give him a good shot at beating Simion in the second term.

It is Fascist, but in a more sneaky way, because it is trying to dissolve existing national identities, and replace them with the European identity. This has been a thing for a looong time. "EU citizenship" or "citizen of EU" have been phrases used by media and various organizations for many years.
I wouldn't be surprised if the influx of immigrants is because they were pissed that people wouldn't renounce their national identities and adopt "EU citizenship", so they're trying to speed it up by breaking nations. They're pissed that the average person still sees themselves as Romanian, French, German, etc., first and foremost. So they think they can break people to the point where Romanian has no meaning to them, and people only say "yeah, I'm European".
And I think it worked for Brits to some extent, to where a good portion of the country think anyone and anything is British. They probably didn't leave EU fast enough.

Yup. I think Șoșoacă is a complete joke of a person, but that decision was absolutely atrocious. At this point, you might as well straight out admit that EU is a fascist superstate, and all speech against EU government is illegal.
You can't possibly say about a state that it is independent if it is not allowed to decide on what alliances it makes with other states, and how can a state make those decisions if the elected politicians are not allowed to have opinions about such alliances?
>but it's in the Constitution, and the president is required to ensure the Constitution is upheld
Yeah, and the Constitution can require change and improvements. The president is also required to able to be smart enough and competent enough to recognize if that's the case and issue recommendations.
We don't elect politicians to blindly uphold laws put into place years or decades ago, we elect them to be able to change things when it is needed.
Instead, the Court basically forbade politicians from ever looking to improve the fundamental law.
What a fucking joke...

It's hilarious to see how foreigners deeply misunderstand the political situation in Romania, and how transparent they are in trying to use Romania's shit for a propaganda video against EU. And a bad propaganda video at that.
Some Indian sounding bloke is trying to convince the world that a single Court of Appeal ruling against a decision of the Constitution Court has any merit.
To put it in a context Americans can understand, it's the equivalent to how your courts tried to control how Trump conducts immigration policy. Basically the Appeal Court has no power over the Constitution Court. In fact, no court and neither any other state institution have any power over decisions made by the Constitution Court, just like nobody has power over what the US Supreme Court decides.
And in fact, by the time this stupid video came out, the decision of the Appeal Court was already overturned, and the judge responsible for it is being investigated by his peers (a council of other judges that we have as an official institution) to make sure his decision wasn't influenced by corruption or political bias, or something like that.
There's a lot wrong with what happened at the end of last year, and this year, in Romania, but doing bad propaganda, and trying to use our country for your right-wing grift against EU, isn't helpful.
It serves only to discredit the people here who are upset with the cancelling of an election without a valid motivation, and evidence to back up the reason.

>I hope you're ready for more unfettered immigration
Immigration is not really Canada's top issue... I mean, for fucks sake, they border USA, not Mexico. How many Americans do you know who actually want to move to Canada? They don't deal with immigration the same way America does. So that's a poor example to pick. Every other social justice/woke authoritarian policy, yeah, those are problems in Canada. Immigration? Not so much.
I know people are blaming Trump's tariffs for how things went down, but honestly... I don't think there was ever a real chance for Canada to not vote liberal. It fell from earlier on and deeper down the marxist rabbit hole, so it will be much harder for them to pull themselves back. They likely need to suffer more from left-wing policies until they figure something ain't right.

@nprofile…hnev As a Linux user, I view 99% of Linux users as imbeciles that are completely divorced from the realities of what the average computer user wants and needs from an OS. They've been stuck in their "moral high ground" for so long, that they're simply disconnected from how a Windows user uses their PC.
As such, I'll never actually recommend Linux to a Windows user. Not even because it couldn't work for them. It very well might. But because I KNOW that when they have an issue (and it is a matter of when, not if), the "help" they'll get from other Linux users will be complete and utter shit.
