I just finished reading your post (after posting my previous reply) and it confirms my thought that ActivityPub, even a static implementation, has too many moving parts. I'll follow some of the links in your post (later, I've been rate-limited) to see if I can wrap my head around it. I've never been able to wrap my head around anything Ruby, tho.

Yes, but...
I understand the RSS and Atom specs well enough that I've created programs with RSS/Atom feeds. But the ActivityPub spec scares the willies out of me. Too many moving parts.

That's the DIY spirit! One of these days/months/years I'm going to have to learn how to use a sewing machine. And maybe how to make my own oilcloth.
I really don't know how Fedizens manage to sew clothes, build electronics, make crafts, do art, and still have time to go cycling. Never mind living daily life. You are all tremendously prodigious!

Are all Community Radio stations required to have a show called "Interzone"?

Of course I'm going to recommend the local #CommunityRadio station where I volunteer: [@radiowaterloo.ca](https://radiowaterloo.ca/@radiowaterloo.ca ) with an online stream at https://radiowaterloo.ca/stream/
Experimental music in the overnight timeslots, lots of music local to #WaterlooRegion, and plenty of news and spoken word programming during the day.
Music submissions are always welcome at [email protected], especially #CanCon and indie stuff.

I use #RadioDroid, on @npub1mtr…trt0 at https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.programmierecke.radiodroid2/
It uses the #RadioBrowser database to play thousands of online streams. Like Wikipedia, https://www.radio-browser.info is a user-contributed database of online radio. It has lots of commercial stations, but lots of online-only stations and lots of Campus and #CommunityRadio too.

I would have called myself an avid reader, but I'm sad that I'm nowhere near 20 books a year.
I was constantly reading as a kid. I remember going to the library, taking a book home, finishing it, and going back that same day for another. I worked at a library (AV tech) in my 20s; read a book a night.
Now, I'm still reading constantly, but mostly news and Fedi on my phone. I *am* reading a book (Ron Deibert's "Chasing Shadows"), but ATM it is closed beside me.

O Boy, I really want to believe that.
But Occam's Razor: The simple* explanation is probably correct, not the complex** one.
*Simple: Carney says he'll accept decarbonized oil, OilCo gets subsidy for decarbonized oil, gov't builds pipelines for OilCo whether decarbonized oil exists or not.
**Complex: Carney, being of quick wit, makes statement accepted by Premier Smith and OilCo, but, after stripping away layers of rhetoric, actually means the opposite of what he said.

All in all, I prefer the plural noun #Fedizens, but I'll settle for the mass noun #Federati.
Although "Federati" may be a plural noun too, but I've never heard of one Fedizen referred to as a "Fediratus". Perhaps as a name: "Hail, citizen Johannes Fediratus Mastodonus!"

Be careful using Buzzsprout. Our Community Radio station subscribes to a bunch of podcasts for syndicated programs. The ones distributed on Buzzsprout are delivered through Cloudflare, which has blocked our station from downloading their podcasts. Instead, we get an error page with a specific code we're supposed to send to the podcast producer, but none of them have any idea what to do about it.
For some, the producer has an alternate distributor, others we've just dropped.

Loss of mental acuity as a result of homelessness was also studied by Dr. Jiaying Zhao: "Poverty impedes cognitive function" (2012) https://zhaolab.psych.ubc.ca/pdfs/Zhao_2013_Science.pdf

A study in 2023 in Vancouver, Canada by Dr. Jiaying Zhao when 50 people living unsheltered were given $7,500 (not #UBI) and (just like anyone would) they spent it on necessities.
My prediction: Yet another study will find the same thing, that people are fiscally responsible.

My parents told this story taking place in Kinderdijk ("Children's Dike"), where we often visited as it was only a few kilometers from where we lived. Looking at a map, Kinderdijk isn't far from the north tip of De Biesbosch National Park, so that seems plausible.

I'd love to read about modern apple growing. Here in Ontario over the last 15 years I've seen a huge change in how apples are grown. There used to be individual trees in an orchard; now there are apple "vines", branches grown along wires strung in parallel rows like grape vines. And there is a large mechanical harvester that runs between rows instead of people on ladders in trees. I think apple yield per hectare must be double what it used to be.

I took typing my first year of high school. Learned on huge Olympia manual typewriters. Typing was the worst mark I got in my entire high school career, barely passed the required 20 words-per-minute. And yet typing is probably the only thing I learned in high school that I still use today, and now on computers my speed is closer to 80wpm. So thank you, Mrs. Marrett!
And yes, I was one of a handful of boys in a class of fifty (the typing room was a double classroom).

[@rwg](https://aoir.social/@rwg)
Seems to me the #OnlineHarmsAct might apply to any #SelfHosted public website, including any multi-user blog (but likely not a one-person #CheeseSandwich journal).
And especially if that blog turns on #ActivityPub integration.
And most especially if that blog is for a federally regulated organization, like, say, a #CommunityRadio station...
I'm going ask the legal counsel for the #NCRA (National Campus/Community Radio Association) about this; will report back later.
