I think you read in to what I was pondering. I've seen very little of Nolan's work (Memento and Batman Begins are I think it). But based on the thread about costuming and working with him, it felt like there may be wish fulfillment and/or other things in play that steer directorial decisions of always having the center of the screen be the narrative focus. Little nuance. Very black and white vibes.

A challenge of the data model is as follows:
How do I know what standards are related to an assignment if none of the students have made an attempt on the standard/assignment?
(But I digress and want to make sure that I'm understanding the model. This might be easier to move to email)

I could look at it, the database schema (at least the two tables) would be great.
A challenge is also around any ORM mapping you might have (thinking of Rails Active Record or Sequel)

run a left outer join SQL query, where the right side is assignment and left is the students record (or lack thereof) for the assignment.
That would create a result set that should be an array.
