@nprofile…3g4a and I recently presented our vision for Flatpak and Flatpak Next at @nprofile…tdn6.
The "reporting" on it has been abysmal, focusing on some made up bullshit instead of the meat of the talk.
The only exception has been the article on @nprofile…j4s6 about LAS by @nprofile…qf5h. The difference between the peanut gallery spreading misinformation and a journalist actually researching a topic is just night and day.

GNOME OS on an ePaper panel driven by @nprofile…htpf glider at 75hz over USB C. The cursor feel smoother than on some shitty 60hz LCD displays and scrolling around works surprisingly well. Absolute game changer for working on the balcony.

Trying to answer a question no sane person ever had to ask: How Hard Is It, To Open a File?
This one is about the great POSIX idea of a filesystem, and why you could not play your games and open chrome for a few days.

Now is the time to update Flatpak to 1.16.6 if you're on stable, or 1.17.6 if you're on unstable. All the known regressions caused by the fix for the sandbox escape have been fixed.

Instead of taking any part in the monthly wayland bashing bullshit, you could just read about how electron, one of the last X11 bastions, has adjusted to wayland. Super important work!

@nprofile…4zgr @nprofile…frtj @nprofile…mwy3 we kind of want to have a "portal" for GPU/accelerator access https://indico.freedesktop.org/event/10/contributions/425/. But yeah, once you have access to a device, you have access to a device. I think for making it easy to "turn off AI", it would help to rather have a good AI portal so apps would actually use that, and then we can have an OS switch for turning it off.

Over the last year, I overhauled the screen brightness handling in GNOME! This will become available in the upcoming 49 release, but you can already try it on GNOME OS.

Blender is getting HDR on Linux via Wayland before Windows! This isn't by accident, but shows how creating a system with a different design creates better results for users and application developers.

> Maybe as flatpak
FYI, that's also kind of horrible. Drivers are build against the runtime which is what a game is build against. If the runtime is EOL it will start missing drivers for new hardware.

Mastodon the last weeks be like:
* Your work on wayland is shit
* Your work on GNOME is shit
* Your colleagues work is shit
* I'm going to force you to implement things I want
* You hate users
* You hate people with disabilities
* ...
Why am I even here?

@nprofile…g90f Xwayland doesn't have extra privileges, it interacts with the compositors XWM and how well and this works is an implementation detail. You got lucky with your testing. This will get worse as compositors are looking for ways to get rid of the XWM which means no more of this special handling. You will have the option to run a rootful Xwayland when that's not sufficient.
Then there are things like pointer warping which also won't work, or at least not in all the ways it works on X11. I guess you didn't test those?

@nprofile…g90f > KiCad works perfectly under XWayland
No it doesn't. Xwayland uses Wayland to get things on the screen, so it has the same fundamental limitations as Wayland (minus some window management behavior). There is no way around actually adjusting the UX in some cases.
All of that misses the important point though: their complaints are for the most part just whining while not putting any effort into wayland for their UI toolkit. Other productivity apps like blender managed to transition to Wayland just fine.
None of their whining is actionable and they take an absolutist position and say Wayland has to change for them to make all of their existing UX work, instead of trying to come up with alternative solutions.
