Last Notes npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Saying that #Bluesky is for pedophiles is such a ridiculous and preposterous claim. Every social media site likely has a few pedophiles lurking there if you look hard enough, including Nostr. And every site takes action to remove them if they are discovered. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly The ATprotocol approach to achieving decentralization is different to Nostr but there is a lot to like: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2402.03239 npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Iām digging all the animated avatars on here. Are people making these themselves? How can I make my own? npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Yes, the fee per transaction will be high, but there will be very few transactions occurring on the main chain. Will it be enough? Why would more transactions occur on the main chain as fees drop? Do lightning/liquid nodes have an incentive to āsettle upā? npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly They are striking a balance between ease of use and full control. Most normies donāt want have to deal with keys. Given that you can now self host you should now have full control of your keys though it is early days and the process is clunky. That said Nostr could learn a lot from Blueskyās focus on removing the complexity of decentralization. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Thought for the day: If #BitcoinĀ fees become so high that the majority of everyday transactions can only be conducted on second layer networks like #Lightning and #Liquid, how will transaction fees alone be able to sustain miners once the payout for each block reward falls below the average transaction fee? š¤ npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly #APprotocol is locked open by design so that even if #Bluesky (the company) was bought by Musk or went out of business, the protocol will survive. A good read: https://bsky.social/about/bluesky-and-the-at-protocol-usable-decentralized-social-media-martin-kleppmann.pdf npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly As much as I believe in Bitcoin, this is why I have also always believed in DigiByte as well. The world needs a coin that can scale on chain and Bitcoin canāt do that in its current form. Lightning has a lot of problems to overcome and is struggling to deliver. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly What do you mean? npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Hey #Nostr devs! This service lets anyone create a domain-based community on #Bluesky with each user getting a sub-domain handle: https://github.com/mozzius/community-handles npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly One major downside to #Nostr is that it is way too Bitcoiner heavy. It turns the average user away. Itās all people seem to talk about on here. #Bluesky is full of people who say they tried Nostr but didnāt like it because it was too crypto oriented. Irrational that may be, but it is a factor in its inability to build communities beyond crypto. Nostr is bigger than Bitcoin. It needs to be more welcoming and it will remain in niche. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Iām a fan of both Nostr and Bluesky. Two great projects, with more or less the same goals of decentralising social media using open protocols, but with different approaches. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly I need my votes on my poll: https://twitter.com/saltedlolly/status/1655925295453466624?s=46 npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Nostrās biggest current limitation, compared to say #Bluesky, is its complexity. Bluesky is decentralized but the complexity of decentralization is hidden from the user. It has the ease of use of a centralized app, which is a major plus for mainstream adoption. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly It's a strange experience jumping from #nostr to #bluesky to #twitter and back. Each feels completely different while many of the same people are present on all three. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly I am trying to wean myself of Twitter, there is something irresistible about watching a ārapid unplanned dissasemblyā from within. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Today I made a decision to scale back my #Twitter usage, and will no longer be a regular user. I have not deleted my Twitter account, but I have deleted the Twitter app from all my devices and will no longer be using Twitter except occasionally. I will not be responding to DMs or mentions. I am moving to Nostr and Bluesky full time. The community is smaller but it is more exciting place to focus my attention. Decentralized social media is the future, so that is where I want to be. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly I bought a new T-shirt. #ifyouknowyouknow npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Once youāve discovered #nostr, itās mastodone. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly That movie was another milestone - there are moments in it where your mouth just drops open at what you are seeing. The line between CGI and live footage is no longer possible to discern. Sure, the plot is a bit hokey, and three and a half hours of blue people running about isnāt for everyone, but like the Abyss, T2, Titanic and Avatar it takes cinema in new and interesting directions and raises the bar on what is possible. James Cameron is a trailblazer, and I loved it. It was a spectacular cinematic experience. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly I have no problem paying for Twitter in principle, but at very least it should mean there are no ads. Either the user is the customer, or the advertisers are. I'm not paying if I am not the customer. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Who knows? Perhaps it is simply that a particular relay is shutting down and you are concerned about losing access to your message history. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly The Great Firewall of USA... npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly TBH I have only just set it up, so I need to experiment more. The UI it is really fast for me since it is running on a Raspberry Pi on my local network. All my events are also being shared to other relays so when I use @damus on my phone, it shares to the Damus relay, my private relay (over Tailscale) and others. I see no reason that performance should be any faster/slower than any other relay setup overall. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Bobby McFerrin live improv is magic! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snFZFw2y9Gk npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly We need a #NOSTR #NIP that enables a client to download our entire event history from one relay, and upload it to another relay. This way if you are concerned that you will be deplatformed, you can easily migrate your chat history to a new relay. Or perhaps you setup a new private relay and want to upload your entire event history to it so you have a backup. Currently, as I understand it, a client cannot relay our past events from one relay to another. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Wow - so I am now running the #[0] client for #nostr on my #[1] server, in addition to the Nostr relay I was already running. Best of all this is all accessible from anywhere using Tailscale VPN. I now have a self-hosted permanent backup of my Nostr chat history. This is the future. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly I've been a hardcore user of #Evernote since 2010 but I recently decided to take a look at #Notion and I must say, I am already considering making the switch permanent, simply for the page formatting system alone. I have not even started investigating what is possible with Notion databases yet. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly @tamarack thanks for the ā”ļø npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Zero. DigiByte is a mined PoW UTXO blockchain like Bitcoin. It basically IS Bitcoin with its scaling issues solved but on-chain. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly 100% agree but DigiByte is not a shitcoin. You might want to try learning more about something you clearly donāt understand before posting platitudes. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Iām hoping I have finally got Zaps working on this thing. Can anyone try zapping me please! npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly I thought I had. Let me check. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Welcome #[0]ā to #Nostr. #DigiByte community on here grows by one! š npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly #Nostr needs a way to be able to let account owners to allocate a special signing key to third-parties to allow them to post to an account on behalf of the owner. It also needs an easy way for us to revoke this permission at a later date. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly #[0]ā Bug: if you update your profile pic or banner URL and accidentally include a space at the end, the URL is not recognised. You need to manually remove it. npub15fy9pt2tuh5nt3u2a9euhftx29x46vzma8pknx5ecj8r6eu8j6hsaakfqk olly Despite having been in the space for years, it seems like Armstrong has just never got it.
