We have a number of different #trees which provide great #autumncolour in the garden.
I manage many of them by cutting back most of their growth every two years in around late April.
This is partly due to lack of space in our garden & also that rejuvinated growth produces better #autumn leaf colour .
This is #Prunus #Pandora, which has palest pink single flowers in abundance each spring, followed by tiny purple cherries & then firey red & orange leaves every October & November.

We have been to #YFenni today and were saddened to see that the lower town has been flooded due to excessive water run-off from nearby roads and streets.
Whether the drains or culverts were blocked or whether it was just the immense volume of rain, it was awful to see that 2 local towns had fallen victim to #stormclaudia this weekend.
One of the local café staff team told us that staff in the shops opposite had been up through the night, moving stock and then clearing up after the floods.

Well, the heavens have opened over most of South Wales, so we are sheltering in a rather busy garden centre just outside Cardiff.
With an atmosphere reminiscent of a large school canteen, we are eagerly awaiting our food.

And, talking of lilies, bere is lilium lancifolium 'superbum'.
Wonderful orange reflex petals are scattered with 80% coco, chocolate spots. All very fancy.
This is a taller and more robust version of the default version.
An added extra are the myriad of mini bulbils that are growing where the leaves meet the stem.
If planted over the next month or two, then these will grow to form flowering sized bulbs in around 3 years.
It doesn't seem to be all that bothered by the scarlet lily beetle.

I have a nostalgic affection for the old-fashioned phlox paniculata cultivars that were very popular in the middle of the last century.
Not only are they practically bomb proof, but some are nicely scented towards the evening time, and they are a great source of food for those gorgeous night flying moths.
They are also available in a wide array of shades from this amazing pale blue violet (Blue Paradise), to brightest magenta and a whole lot more besides.

And talking of daylilies, this is always one of the first to flower. It's called Dicarded Beauty.
The story goes that it was found in full bloom on one of the piles of dayliliy seedlings that had been thrown away by a famous daylily breeder.

I was chatting to @npub1z9n…r70m the other day about the distinct lack of #Pride endorsements we have seen this year.
We saw one shelf edge label in Tesco, which was actually on the floor, and a sticker on a bank window, but very little else.
We usually see a whole batch of #LGBT themed products, but absolutely nothing this year.
I fear we are becoming invisible again and too much of a risk for those who would seek to court favour from the new kings of power, the radical right.

I have never understood the concept of "Flaming June" here in the UK.
At least the flowers are looking pretty. 😄
This glorious thing is peony White Cap. Classed as a Japanese or Imperial peony. These tend to have one or more layers of large "guard petals" and a frothy mass of petaloids heaped up in the centre.
This one always reminds me of a large dollop of raspberry rippled ice cream.
As with most peonies, it is scented but with more of a spicy flavour than some.

Tis the time or year for aquilegia to flower. Such gentle things but with deeply complex names.
Aquilegia is derived from the Roman Aquila who was the messenger of Jupiter and all things butch and manly. The backs of the petals form what looks like an eagle's head & wings.
Then we have the common name of Columbine, thst comes from the Latin Columba - the bird of Venus.
So, we had daddy Jupiter & daughter Venus sharing one single flower where strength transmutes to love, peace, joy & calm.

I have always loved Japanese maples and their cousins. We have a rather alot of them in the garden and mostly in pots.
More recently, I have been collecting members of the "ghost" series which are particularly unique because of their reticulated leaf pattern.
This one is called Sister Ghost.
The colours and patterns are amazing but this one needs alot of semi shade to prevent leaf scorch.
We have a number of other unusual maples which I will eventually get round to sharing on here soon.

Did you know that the name comes from the French 'dent du lion', which means tooth of the lion. This refers to the jagged and pointy leaf and not the flower.

Narcissus Lucifer is probably my favourite tall narcissus. Such graceful poise and colour combination. And, being more than 1/3 🇨🇮, it has all the colours, too. Marvelous.

We have just eaten at the Rajpoot in Sr Ives. I had a chicken tikka Tawa, and the @npub1z9n…r70m had chicken biriani with a rather gorgeous vegetable curry.
Mine was absolutely amazing!
The meal had a thick onion based sauce with a jammy consistency, with roasted peppers and onion segments. The chicken tikka was nicely spiced, as was the sauce. I had some mushroom rice to complement.
The @npub1z9n…r70m said that his meal was very nice too. 😊
And, yes, we are going on a diet when we get home. 😊

We found this one sitting on a shelf in a garden centre on the weekend.

In Wales, today is known as Gwyl Forwyn or the Feast of the Maidens.
This reminds me of a passage in Cad Goddeu (technically battle of the shrubs, but it is mostly translated as trees).
Arthur sails into #Annwn on his ship Prydwen (fair of face) with his pal #Taliesin and others
A great cauldron there is warmed by the breath of 9 maidens, but it won't boil the food of a coward.

I have decided that I am going to view the general goings on of this world as merely an unscripted comedy/farce that I don't and won't have to take any notice of.
I shall just stick to stirring my own cauldron, growing my herbs and flowers, and focusing on spreading what magics I can and sharing the joys of this world wherever possible.
Far too much fertiliser is given to so many things in this world.
