I often try to use OpenOCD (just because), but often enough it just doesn't work, crashes, etc. and then I find myself switching back to Seggers propritary server (which also crashes, but less) :D

The J-Link works. Their software is not fantastic (sometimes crashes, sometimes behaves weirdly), but it‘ll get the job done.
With the Pro you have the excellent benefit of not having to deal with USB, which already removes a ton of pain. I used to only have the EDU model available to me and it was annoying to deal with…
But yes, it‘ll get the job done.

one of the many, yes.
There's big lists of adapters and their various quirks.
The Pi community also often manually disallows UASP for broken converters via "usb-storage.quirks=" cmdline...
I recently bought a USB3 3.5" sata enclosure where the JMicron chip would just overheat and then hang. After removing the case and adding one of those Pi heatsinks, it managed to keep working. *sigh*

Oh I've seen that one!
... don't forget the wildly varying quality of the different USB3->SATA (and NVMe) chipsets.
I wonder if some of those are also just software bugs (or might at least be workaroundable in software).
I've seen some that would just hang when requesting LBAs over a certain boundary 🙃

Yeah, because for normal users it's not "the myth", it's just the normal experience.
You'll get kernel hung tasks and your box will die horribly and you won't know why (as a user)... Just a horrible experience :(

IPA kann sich da nicht seit Monaten ansammeln -- das ist nach wenigen Minuten bereits komplett weg.
Kipp mal nen Schnappsglas IPA draussen aus, das ist nach 1min komplett verdampft.
Da muss noch was anderes gesammelt oder gewachsen sein.

Linux on the V3s can probably get a week of standby run-time (as in running and you can log in/run stuff, just CPU idle) on a small battery and a <5s boot time is definitely also possible.
But yeah, very different work from the current software development experience :)

well, if you're running bare-metal C code as well, it's just a ARM CPU, so you'd use something like Make+GCC and just build C code for the platform. Some magic for making a bootable image (signature, etc.), but that's all well documented in the linux-sunxi project.
But yeah, you'd have to roll your own drivers (or use regular Linux, which might not even be a bad choice).

The risk is something different, called "Popcorning".
When moisture in the components boils during reflow, quite violent destruction of the parts can occur.
Drying/baking before reflowing will get rid of the moisture beforehand.
