@nprofile…xkhf no idea if this is of any interest to you, but recently I came over a site drive through rpg, which seems a marketplace thing for rpg (the pen and paper kind) mods etc (was looking for the risus rules).
It has free stuff, but also some lightly paid material. If you would write something like "how can game masters enhance their storytelling by incorporating these secret patterns from ancient tales", it might be something.
(I would buy a copy)

@nprofile…v2v2 @nprofile…4jr4 reminds of reading about.. 9P (?) and the idea of everything as file (sharing devices remotely etc), where they sidestepped the same interface problem. Not sure if that evolution branch arrived at something more formal.

@nprofile…v2v2 @nprofile…4jr4 maybe we can plug the rephrased assertion "Every computer science data structure has a successful text representation".
Okay, maybe breaks down around hashmaps or balanced trees.. but kind of.

@nprofile…xkhf 9yo told me today would want to know the very original version of some Hungarian folk tale (because aware of oral passing and changing, so curious about origin).
Do you know any pointers in this direction, even if not the full original? Maybe some historic progression collected of a tale?

@nprofile…44dh someone please enlighten me on this - iiuc copyfail needs local code exec to get root perm, but if you have local code exec, likely copyfail is just one of many possibilities. Why the rage about copyfail then? Sure, it is consistent, and bad, but sounds more a newsflash thing than something outstanding?

@nprofile…vf35 is this one of those cases where the hosting provider doesn't offer a FreeBSD image? If so, do you plan to run with qemu KVM permanently? What is the impact of that (perf-wise or ability to run jails or bhyve, is any)?
(Edit: I missed the related post, now have bit more context, but still curious to know)

@nprofile…p7lw Not my cake, and agree on the shock, but in some sense it is still better than committing the AI generated code without trace.
(Of course one hopes the generated code is still committed somewhere for persistence and observation, instead of being regenerated and such).

So I said to my kid that I heard Japanese folk tales share some similarity with our Hungarian ones. How lucky we have this old collection translated on the shelf, let's read one.
It starts out quite familiar, man saves fish, fish says thanks, leads man to some treasury place in the sea.
And then it turns out everyone the guy knew was dead. In fact, he was dead too, and it was only his ghost left. And my kid is like wait what, and I'm like.. er.. maybe not that similar.

@nprofile…4x5t an internet connection might be nice, but for start a Kiwix dump should be a good start, isn't it? Also some Linux install DVDs with packages on them (they used to do this). And educating people how to swap data using hard drives. Acts as a natural filter of what actually is important, vs getting endless shit dumped on you.

@nprofile…fle4 what is the use case for this tool?

Stages of debugging #Haskell performance:
1) the foldl must be slow.
2) the Map conversion must be slow
...
3) ah, I wrote a list function that doesn't terminate

@nprofile…e5g0 @nprofile…q7zp @nprofile…5a92 it is certainly good to bootstrap you with relevant terminology and source pointers. At one point it might be beneficial to switch to research papers etc. Out of curiosity, what is your method of knowing when to switch / look outside?

@nprofile…e5g0 @nprofile…5a92 well, it is recombining what was in the training set in new ways, possibly up to the point you don't recognize them as fragments of the originals. The effect can and will contain made up alike stuff.
Fun exercise, take some topic you are deeply familiar with, and start drilling it on some hard corners of it. Sooner or later it goes off rails and produce mistake you wouldn't normally find in the wild.

"You used to play games in the past,
but now why #Haskell coding?", you might ask.
While both of them can be kinda hard,
they're in fact not that far apart:
Angry Birds from Rovio,
or angry words from throwIO.

@nprofile…fle4 one nice trick with PostUp is you can also store the private key separately, if you don't like passwords lingering in the config file:
PostUp: 'wg set %i private-key <(cat /path/to/%i.key)',
Well, the password is still somewhere, but maybe you can check the atime on it separately or whatever.

@npub1vcl…k6t3 as my #infosec mastodon connection, could you advise a reasonable resource for attack vectors against workstations? Something like OWASP maybe in spirit, prioritized, with actionable items etc. If such a thing exists.

@npub1zdz…tl8u Not sure, something that lets searching by country, characters, themes or tropes.. that kind of thing.

@npub1zdz…tl8u Slightly tangential, but I'm long contemplating creating a folk tale search engine. Is there anything like that already?

@npub1a4c…t2kf reminds of the infamous voice-activated command "Xbox Shut Down", where players named themselves this and abused others to call out their names. Creativity is boundless.
