As we welcome in the new year, I often hear people musing
about what they would have done differently. Or, if I woke up
at some younger age, with everything I know now, what
would I do?
I have thought about this at length. And I tell you, if I had
ever woke up young again it wouldn’t be a gift. It would be a
nightmare so complete, I’d likely fall into madness.
I’d spend my life trying to reproduce an irreproducible
future.
Trying to find the same people. Create the same moments. Hoping the same miracles would happen again.
But they wouldn’t. In fact. They couldn’t.
I’d have to attempt to live my life to the exact instances of
my past in a desperate and vain attempt to reproduce the future.
Attempt to find my ex wife on the exact day. Have the same moments. Make love on the same night. Hoping it brings my daughter into the world. But it won’t. Because to attempt to reproduce a miracle is a fools errand. Likewise I’d have to relive all the same sufferings again. Relive the same deaths, the same tragedies. With full
knowledge of the events coming and no ability to halt them.
The only course of action is a selfish one. To detach
completely from the life you once had. Abandoning all or forcing yourself to have foreknowledge of tragedies your loved ones will
suffer.
Surely you could attempt to be closer to them knowing these
things. But again, changing the future means any children you’ve had will never come to be. Or worse, new unforetold events.
Perhaps you stop your mother dying in a car accident. But by
doing so the grief that once fused your family is no longer present. You family fractures in new ways. You take a job in a new city, you never meet your wife. Your children and their children are never born. Their exact laugh, their particular mind, are now a cosmic impossibility. Your sister or brother meet the same fate. Their bloodline meets the same fate. Worlds once known are gone.
Because any event now outside your control is once again part
of the symphonic cacophony of the vast experiences of the universe.
Love isn’t a destination you can navigate back to.
Children aren’t outcomes you can plan for.
They are emergent phenomenon born from chains of events so
fragile that changing one step erases them entirely.
Never to be created again.
Changing the past loses the future you’re trying to save.
As I said earlier, the only way to “win” that thought
experiment is to detach completely from the life you once had.
Sacrificing the known future and known lives that come of it for a
new unknown. And new unknown regrets.
Let your past guide you. Be grateful for it. Understand it.
Learn from it. For suffering and love, pain, sacrifice, joy… these
things bring us wisdom.
Wisdom to deal with their inevitable recurrence.

Bitcoin didn’t succeed because of code. It succeeded because of design. Satoshi wasn’t a great programmer. His C++ was clunky and criticized, but that never mattered. The genius was in the incentive structures that keep the system in balance: miners securing for rewards, users verifying for self-interest, developers constrained by social consensus. The game theory is what makes Bitcoin work, not the elegance of the code. What’s overlooked is that most changes today are argued by people who can write code, but Bitcoin’s real oversight has always come from outside of that circle. Economists, philosophers, and everyday users. Satoshi himself belonged more to this other group. He was a systems thinker who used code as a tool, not as the essence of Bitcoin. At its core, Bitcoin is not software. It’s a social contract expressed through rules. The code simply enforces the design.

I still think Bitcoin fixes this.
Fixes everything. I won’t dive into the how or the why here. Instead, I’ll say this:
Bitcoin can fix what’s broken, but we don’t have unlimited time.
Bitcoin only has a chance if adoption grows to critical mass. Without it, I fear for mankind. Endless wars, hate, division, the same cycles of suffering repeating since time immemorial.
So I’ll try to do my best to keep pushing adoption, self-custody, node running, sovereignty.
Bitcoin is a peaceful revolution.

Unpopular opinion:
Bitcoin is not digital gold. And we need to stop calling it that.
Gold inherently requires trust.
You must trust the purity of the bar.
Trust the person transporting it.
Trust the storage facility.
Trust the world around you to honor it.
That’s why gold often ends up in vaults, banks, and ETFs. Systems upon systems built on layers and layers of trust. And that’s exactly the problem.
When we label Bitcoin as “digital gold,” we open the door for institutions to normalize trusted custody. Normalize their narrative.
They’ll say it’s fine to hold your Bitcoin in their vaults.
That you need their help.
That it’s just like gold.
But Bitcoin isn’t gold. It’s trust-less.
That is the breakthrough. That is the revolution.
Look around:
How often do you hear the term “self-custody” from regulators, banks, or press releases?
How often do you hear them promote sovereign ownership of Bitcoin?
Rarely. And that’s not an accident.
This is a form of soft capture. It’s subtle, calculated, and dangerous.
The omission of self-custody is not a mistake.
The language is deliberate.
The narrative is carefully crafted.
Don’t fall for it.
Bitcoin is not digital gold.
It’s the end of trusted intermediaries.
Not your keys, not your coins.
Reject trusted systems.

So I took my daughter to that concert last night. All and all it cost around 600$. Today, the gains on one of my bitcoin positions on one of the exchanges I use has gone up a little over 600$
Think about this… if we were on a Bitcoin standard my base purchasing power would be the same as the day before the show.
This is how it happens. This is how Bitcoin brings post scarcity.
Sure, it could have gone down. Or up not as much. But try not to focus on the minutiae. We’re not all the way there yet. We are still building.
But I think my point stands. A system that doesn’t rob from your future benefits your present.

I will begin recording the first build of the node series early next week. If you’ve built a PC before this will be either boring or a refresher for you.
If you haven’t, this will be a good start. It’s much easier than it looks.
If some of this equipment looks outdated, that’s because it is. There’s two reasons for this.
1. To show that nodes can and should run on older hardware. Lowering the barrier to entry. And helping cut down on E-waste.
2. It’s what I have on hand. And since I’m doing this completely at my own expense, I need to keep costs down everywhere I can.
I have enough equipment to demonstrate building about 6, maybe 7 nodes of varying difficulty/power.
It’ll take about a week to build, record and edit each one. To save sync time I may bootstrap the blockchain. Haven’t decided yet. I may not to show the difference in sync times between different builds. (Leaning towards that direction, after all, this will likely be what you experience.)
I will be uploading to YouTube, Rumble, X and possibly Primal/Nostr if it can handle the long videos. (Unsure)

The Thermopylae of Bitcoin: Core vs Knots

A small but principled group of node operators, developers, and builders have chosen not to follow Bitcoin Core’s recent direction. They’ve aligned with Knots, with Ocean, with sovereignty.
They aren’t the majority.
But neither were the Spartans.
Bitcoin Core has increasingly chosen convenience over consent, centralization over signal filtering, and developer paternalism over node autonomy.
Knots and its allies represent a defiant minority saying:

I want to see global systems collapse.

I want the hum of algorithmic trading to fall silent. The frantic pulse of Wall Street gone. Let the indices flatline. Let the numbers stop moving, and with them, the illusion that growth is infinite. The gears of global finance, lubricated by speculation and systemic inequality, should seize in protest of their own emptiness. Let the ticker tape turn blank.
I want the stock market incapable of functioning.
A temple desecrated. A casino shut down mid-bet. Let the traders stare at frozen screens, their wealth unrealized, their leverage unraveled. Let corporations no longer find capital through manipulation, but by merit,by the value they provide, not the value they inflate.
This is why I Bitcoin. This is my dream. A world free from fiat slavery. A world where mankind can finally flourish. Our shackles broken at the wall of governance. Freedom… Post scarcity… Peace.
I will fight for this. I will do whatever my will is capable of carrying. Be it to my death, or victory.
