I’m impartial to how Twitter is run currently, but the vibe feels…different. Feels more “race to the top for followers” rather then “let’s make a casual experience to talk to people”. I found my old account from 2015, it has 4 tweets about me just buying a new iPhone (testing out the “post Tweet using Siri”) and about my enjoyment of a local food place. Good times.

Banks runs don't seem over any time soon. I think it's contained for now (since the Fed has historically quelled markets) but I don't think consumers are 100% convinced. I see it as positive that average people are starting to question the "trust" we put in major systems, I have no underlying motives, I think it's a net positive that people are questioning this and realising "hey, maybe it's not the best idea we just let banks have no liquidity on hand"

Charlie Munger, explaining bitcoin.

2023-03-17 10:53:02 GMT

Been a minute but realised I never shared my story with bitcoin:
I grew up in a low-income household, and a surprising number of people just didn’t have bank accounts, or more accurately, couldn’t have access. They couldn’t afford IDs, couldn’t afford the travel to a bank, etc. As I got older, realised that the system was designed to ensure that only a select few (even if that figure was in the millions) could access banks and loans. In late 2014, I stumbled on a YouTube video from Tested with Adam Savage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnm4xFC2xNo) where they bought bitcoin, the process seemed so…easy to me. And in a second, I was orange pilled. Realised how not all of our problems would be solved by bitcoin (as an economist, required a structural rewrite) but it solved enough for me to say “wow, this is actually really cool” and…well that’s my anti-climatic story of how i got orange pilled.

2023-03-12 13:26:29 GMT

Bitcoin is back down to $20,000. But the comedy of this is that it’s still a functional currency. Sure it sends a lot of people into a frenzy but for 99% of holders who use it as a currency it’s just another Saturday.
