I have installed Debian a few times lately. Still too nerdy and technical for grandma.
My proposal:
One repo with an audit pipeline.
Developers from all Linux *and* BSD distros audit each commit going into that repo.
Convergence of the whole #FOSS community, like lasers scouring the incoming code, manually & using tools.
Each distro team sets up a workflow to bundle code from that repo for their Linux/BSD distro ( deb, rpm, pkg, nix, * )

Nothing prevents people from forking off projects, and experimenting.
In fact, it is welcomed!
However, those forked packages won't be trusted, only the mainline packages.
If a fork is ever to make it into the trusted main branch, it will have to undergo the same rigorous audit.

I have lived all over the Bay Area, including Foster City. It's nicer away from San Francisco, towards San Jose, Santa Cruz etc. SF is too cold & windy.
Muir Woods was a great escape when I was in a low mood. I'd just drive down there on impulse, and go hiking. Now, you need a permit to park and a reservation. It takes time & planning.
Didn't like LA. Lived a block from Grauman's Chinese theater. Everyone seemed fake. All the waiters were actor-wannabes. Hell-No to Hell-A! 😆

That sandworm lets you carry your two wheeled vehicles on board, unlike here in Tokyo.
Cities all suck, but Tokyo is so, so much more beautiful than San Francisco. Much cleaner and greener, with fewer homeless people, and spectacular architecture. And the food is to die for! 👌

I was in the waiting room of a clinic when an old lady with a walker, came in & said she had just broken a tooth & was in a lot of pain. The people there were so mean to her. Didn't offer to call a doctor, give her pain meds, ask her to take a seat, or even help her to her car. Just told her to get lost. I politely intervened, as they were bullying her. They said, I stuck my nose in where it didn't belong, and called the police on me, while I patiently waited. FUCK those people!

Out of curiosity, why can't you?

Ate with my roommate at a cheap local eatery on a monthly plan. Goes without saying that sometimes I would be dead tired. The hole in the wall where we ate was actually very grungy and unhygienic. One evening, after a hard day of school, I sat eating dinner, when I found a huge cockroach in my curry. I was too tired, and hungry, and didn't have the energy to complain. The roach had been cooked. So I quietly put the cockroach aside, pulled the wool over my own eyes, and continued eating.

That one is epic! An impossibly brilliant act of laziness to follow. My story is not nearly as impressive.
For a couple of years, I studied Mechanical Engineering in India, living 5 kilometers away from college, commuting to campus 6 days a week, going to the steel plant to get some hands on metal work training, staying up till 3am, hunched over a drafting board, making engineering drawings, blasting AC/DC, sweating on the drawings, using white bread to neatly erase pencil smudges.

Domo Arigatougosaimasu! I made some curry from cubes today. It's different in flavor, much thicker in consistency than anything I experienced in India. Indian cuisine, adjusted to Japanese taste. Even the Nepali restaurant I tried seemed to have adapted their cooking to local tastes.
There's room for authentic Indian cuisine!
A restaurant in Queens, NY, serves Chinese cuisine as Indians like it, to cater to the nostalgia of the Indian-American diaspora.

The Software Industry is one big hoax. In a world of Free Software and shared, verified knowledge, the common platform of civilization would be so vast, that there would be little need for customization to fit specific use cases. Selling software would not be a thing.
Capitalism sells you 10,000 types of mouse traps, none of which work very well, to sustain illusions of innovation rewarded, of consumer choice, of the American Dream.
