this is the first paper that i wrote (prior papers had intros written by faculty advisors probably) ... no real poetic intro sentence though haha, since it was squeezed to be a short paper so probably no room:

another related thought is that active recall is hard to sustain because, well, it feels hard -- but the cool thing about writing code is that you get some payoff when you do it 'right', so by having activities where learners write small bits of code, you're encouraging constant active recall (at least of python syntax and basic run-time semantics) and they're getting instant-ish feedback. that's why we never forget syntax once learned, since it's recalled every time we code

great reminders! also i enjoyed this podcast about duolingo (and related ones): https://www.theverge.com/24267841/luis-von-ahn-duolingo-owl-language-learning-gamification-generative-ai-android-decoder -- i think this is where software can potentially have an advantage over humans since it can be frustrating and embarrassing to always be getting stuff 'wrong' in front of a person, but when using an app privately people aren't as self conscious

do you mean trying to use a laptop outdoors? or your laptop screen is too bright/blue/etc. and you need sunglasses even indoors?
