Today I just recorded the first segment of a DHP episode I've been quietly working my ass off on in recent weeks. I've said almost nothing about this publicly, other than maybe a very vague tweet or two.
The topic is this: The Israeli attack on the USS Liberty on June 8th, 1967.
This is a topic I've intended to cover on the DHP eventually at some point. But with the Israeli-American conflict with Iran, & then Trump's complete 180 on the Jeffery Epstein scandal, I felt compelled to set aside a lot of other things I was working on to push the Liberty story to the front of the queue.
This story is infuriating & largely unknown to Americans today. Over the course of several hours, Israeli planes & torpedo bots attacked an American ship in international waters, killing 34 Americans & wounding 171, & nearly sinking the ship. Even though the Liberty was flying an American flag & had identifying marks prominently visible on its hull, the Israeli government claimed it was a tragic mistake, & the US government largely let them get away with it, one example of many that the US-Israeli "alliance" is actually only one-way in terms of costs vs. benefits.
I'm working as hard as I can to try to get the Liberty DHP episode done by Monday. I think I can do it, but it'll be a pretty big episode. (My notes for it are 27 pages & I'm still adding to them here & there even though I've started recording, which is par for the course for me.)

(The fancy powdered-wig guys in Philly would take almost 15 months to catch up & declare it with ink & parchment.)

He made it. Under lots of pressures, as presidents always are. But he chose to go with the pro war pressures, against the antiwar ones. The majority of average Americans wanted to stay out, & he chose to go against them (and a lot of his own good instincts) because he wanted to use the war as an opportunity to remake the world. Up till Dec 1916/Jan 1917, he believed he could do this as a neutral mediator. But by Feb-March 1917, his mediation efforts had all failed, & there was no chance he’d be able to shape the peace as simply a mediator, without US participation in the war, so he got us into war.

To add a little bit more: I find Eisenhower to be one of the most interesting Americans of the 20th century. Lots of tensions & contradictions, though I think a case could be made he was the least bad POTUS post-WW2, all things considered. But he was really bad on unleashing the Dulles brothers to start the CIA on its path of destruction ever since. Possibly the only thing I think Truman was better on than Ike was trying to keep the CIA on a very short leash.

This Thanksgiving I’m thankful that I’m still alive, still sober, still married, still not homeless, & still on the upswing (across the board) in life despite many trials & tribulations.
And I’m thankful for my listeners, without whom I wouldn’t have made it this far.
PS-Woodrow Wilson Part 13 is in the works, trying to get it finished over Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll be thankful if I’m able to do so. 😉

American academia has been captured & corrupted for propagandistic purposes for well over a century now:

Things haven't changed at all in the last century; if anything, they've only gotten worse. The biggest obstacle to intellectual freedom in academia comes via horizontal enforcement from the professors themselves.

FYI - Currently hard at work on DHP Villains: Woodrow Wilson. This will be lucky #13 in the series, in which he’ll get reelected on an anti-interventionist platform (“He kept us out of war!”) & then less than a month after starting his second term - he gets us into war.
Hopefully I’ll get it done before our current rulers get us into the second sequel to Wilson’s folly. Like most sequels, it looks like it’ll be even bigger & dumber than its predecessors.

Just finished running 6 miles nonstop, including going across a big tall bridge & back. I think I’m on a good trajectory (👊 on 🪵) to FINALLY do the 7 Mile Bridge Run in the FL Keys in just over 4 months.
Twice in recent years I’ve bought a ticket for the race but wasn’t able to do it - in 2022 (bit by a dog while training & needed rabies shots) & 2023 (going through alcohol withdrawal that was worse & took longer than I expected.)
This spring I didn’t even buy a spot because I knew I wouldn’t be able to because my wife was going through her last big spinal surgery.
April ‘25 is gonna be the one.
When you fall, get back up. 💪
