These trees have had an important role in our ecosystems and culture here in North America for centuries, but are now considered endangered due primarily to the impact of Dutch elm disease--an infection caused by several invasive fungi of the genus Ophiostoma. Despite this, it's still not too hard to find healthy trees both in cultivation and the wild, so if you find yourself standing beneath one's long, arching branches, take a moment to appreciate all the elms in your life. npub16ppygdll5r5mc5ng9jg9rnwr8u6zgp86fmpaxvm6geysfkxv4qpswr5qed Asheπββ¬π In observance of #FungiFriday I bestow upon you this delightfully wiggly jelly fungus; may it bring you as much joy as it has brought me :3 npub16ppygdll5r5mc5ng9jg9rnwr8u6zgp86fmpaxvm6geysfkxv4qpswr5qed Asheπββ¬π A pair of birch polypores (Fomitopsis betulina) on Kodak Gold for #FungiFriday and #FilmFriday ^^ npub16ppygdll5r5mc5ng9jg9rnwr8u6zgp86fmpaxvm6geysfkxv4qpswr5qed Asheπββ¬π I come bearing the mushroom pics promised earlier, along with a little microscopy :3 npub16ppygdll5r5mc5ng9jg9rnwr8u6zgp86fmpaxvm6geysfkxv4qpswr5qed Asheπββ¬π βSorry Iβm late for class, I was befriending an isopodβ npub16ppygdll5r5mc5ng9jg9rnwr8u6zgp86fmpaxvm6geysfkxv4qpswr5qed Asheπββ¬π @npub1cmgβ¦rzd2 For anyone looking for a nice web client, I've been using https://phanpy.social for a few months and I'm thoroughly happy with it.
