I agree that solar is appropriate for rural, islanded or grid-tied properties —especially with batteries. Grid scale solar makes far less sense, but for a household where you control the install and are not in some onerous lease agreement with a third-party, solar/batteries are the most accessible solution that works for the most people available today.

That’s a cool itinerary. If you go in the summer, it’s shockingly warm and humid, prepare accordingly. I preferred akihabara during the day, you can stock up on engineer brand tools quite reasonably.

Kicked the tires, but have not used yet. This site aggregates government auction sites. Seemingly a good way to recover some damage from government largesse.

This is the issue, most people don’t understand the distinction of proprietary vs. FOSS, so they can’t carry this understanding over into different domains, like money.

I second Inkscape and Lightburn. FreeCAD is also getting very mature. KiCAD is also not just for PCB design/layout tool, it also has a very capable 2d drawing tool that works well for getting things dimensionally accurate. It is a process to learn how to do it well, just like 3d printing. Being able to draw your own files is an excellent superpower to refine over time.

I enjoy it, it is keyboard-centric enough and the tiling is good enough to scratch my i3 itch. I don’t find myself fiddling with it. It just works, even in its infancy.

Nodes and mining used to be inseparable. With the advent of “hashing” with a pool, this thread is broken. Transactional privacy and full transactional sovereignty is great though.

Increased on-chain transactional privacy. Education. Being a good community member. Assisting the network that is assisting you. Those sorts of things. Come join in, it makes you a true citizen of Bitcoin with a small but important vote in the future direction of the network if you actively select your node software/upgrades.

Agreed, just bite the bullet and go cold-turkey to Linux. I did it years ago and I don’t miss Windows. Make the commitment to switch and be free!

Bitcoin is valuable because it is decentralized. Decentralization is not going to happen if every node runner is an unwitting host of CSAM.

I’m all about figuring out a way of getting this some traction… but this is also a zero-day exploit, so it requires some finesse. Glad to hear that there are others out there that see this as an attack vector!

This is a tough one for me. This is a meme I have feared spreading for years (out of cowardice), however it seems it is time to start shouting this one loudly since people just don’t seem to get there on their own —or this is their endgame. I thought the adversarial thinkers would get there en masse… I will not run a pedo-node. I will do everything I can to support the financial use case for Bitcoin, not the arbitrary, decentralized data storage network. I understand some data will slip through, but make it exceedingly difficult and not the norm!

It is either innocence/lack of adversarial thinking… or enemy action.

The issue is —they are a centralizing force by raising the compute/space requirement for running a full node. The UTXO set bloat has eliminated an entire class of low cost, ubiquitous hardware for use as a node. This aside, I support developing solutions for miner centralization as the long-term fix.

Basically… In my case I used the “single” version of what you posted. I’m sure the “strip” would be great, but didn’t work with my particular dimensions. Make sure you get good engagement with the studs in the wall and you’ll be fine. What is the actual shelf you’ll be using?

FreeCAD is excellent. The learning curve is steep, especially so if you are coming from a proprietary CAD software... But once you find a workflow that works for you, it is incredible for parts for 3D printing and lasercut panels, with no licence hassles.

Yes, but ones purchasing power increases over time. People aren't going to stop eating, or buying items that they value/need/desire. As far as I'm concerned, this is the main inventive that turns humanity from mindless consumption and creates the incentive to take purchasing decisions more seriously. Economic activity may slow, but that which remains will be far more productive, add more value to humanity and reduce the entropy (waste) found in the current system.

No breakers tripped and there is still SOME voltage on the lines --just not enough to deliver current to most devices. Be careful! Don't assume anything is de-energized!
