I know everyone else is saying this too, but You Can See Everything is such a wild ride, and we need to declare some time and date where we can discuss it publicly

What I like about @npub1yrg…9cez’s plan to remunerate open source devs is — apart from it hasn’t been tried and might actually work — it acknowledges that companies actually struggle to pay for FLOSS even when they would be fine doing so: https://seldo.com/posts/nobody-pays-for-open-source-we-can-force-them-to/
you’re halfway there just finding something that looks like it could send them an invoice — and package registries are definitely that shape

This excellent history of Autistici/Inventati fills in a /lot/ that I didn't know. https://cavallette.noblogs.org/2026/08/10083/2 . Before the democratisation of translation, it was particularly hard to perceive what was going on on the ground wrt digital activism in some countries -- I'd say Japan and Italy were two I found most challenging. So you can connect this history with https://w2.eff.org/Censorship/Indymedia/ which was the US part of some of these events.

Oh, this rings true for much of (the small part of the world) I see: "Why can I, a middle-aged person with very firm opinions I will defend with the sort of withering sarcasm I learned during the golden era (and only the golden era) of The Simpsons, not make friends who share my exact opinions and tastes, and who do not sully themselves by liking the wrong thing, or by liking the right thing in the wrong way?"

One of my favourite new thinkers, Frank Miroslav ([@mutual_ayyde](https://mastodon.social/@mutual_ayyde ) ) just dropped an absolutely barnstormer of an essay: "Technically Radical: On the Unrecognized Potential of Tech Workers and Hackers". I'm going to be quoting bits of this for /years/.

This one has kind of an insane deadline (June 10) -- but if you're interesting in exploring how to contribute to open source software, are interested in #libp2p #ipfs etc, and want a little money on the side, applications are open for the first Protocol Labs Dev Guild!
This is "cohort 0" so I suspect it will be a bit bumpy. I'm going to apply myself, but if you don't mind being a guinea-pig along with me, here's the link: https://ecosystem-wg.notion.site/PL-Dev-Guild-4f9496e4c24245149b2d3537fdbbfa4e
