think about it.
this is not "there will be AGI and it turns against us", this is "a fucking autocomplete chatbot trained on whatever crap it found on the internet gets access to weapons and critical infrastructure because we're ruled by fucking idiots"
also, people in charge believe the AI bro lies about things they consider positive, if they at least believed their doomsday scenarios as well and acted on them (by killing the whole industry) it would help

yes, please take it seariously and destroy all that crap before it destroys us
(you don't need consciousness to destroy mankind, just an idiot who lets LLMs control their nukes, and the LLM hallucinating some bullshit based on what it was trained on, which includes all science fiction texts and movie scripts.. autocomplete based on Terminator, good luck)

yeah, probably =)
a homelab (most probably mostly isolated from the internet, at leats for incoming connections) is just a very different situation to a publicly reachable service used by hundreds of thousands of people + bots
(and if we're being honest, AI crawler bots are a PITA for everyone's uptimes, that crap is a DDOS on the whole internet. of course GH/MS deserves this for being part of the problem, but it still adds to their load)

local models are pretty crap for many purposes. probably a big part of the problem is the (much) smaller context window, compared to commercial models

maybe as a corporation they have problems admitting that pointless busywork that prevents important things from happening is a bad thing ;)

(they fixed it anyway but.. what a ridiculous argument)

The article says that TLS was involved, but isn't it supposed to prevent that?
Just because they manipulate DNS that doesn't mean they have valid private keys of the domains involved? Or have they compromised a CA as well?

> Use that time to find a fulfilling position elsewhere.
the main problem is that the job market currently kinda sucks, and I seriously wonder how many companies are out there whose management is not infected with this kind of brainworm…
I neither want to use those tools nor review or debug code by people who do.
But it seems like management is blinded by how quickly that crap can generate something that looks ok on first sight, even if it's more like a broken prototype

"it's just like working with junior developers, you tell them what to do and have to review their code"
Yeah, right - micromanaging subpar junior developers with dementia who never learn anything. Exactly why I got into this job, can't imagine anything more fulfilling
But I guess if I *did* use that shit enough eventually my brain would be similarly damaged and I'd start believing the hype as well

I don't think I'll stop using Firefox anytime soon.
Yes, their management are fucking idiots and it's annoying that I'll have to disable new AI features whenever they release them..
But the alternative is to use something Chromium-based, which would make Google's domination of web technology absolute - and Google is 100x more evil than Mozilla ever could be.
I hope this fucking bubble pops before Mozilla fucks up Firefox so badly that it becomes completely unusable

Weren't protests disallowed in advance?
Whoever decided to ban protests should be prosecuted and is at fault for any escalation today

Does anyone have a mirror or local backup of (the last or any interesting state of) zerowing.idsoftware.com ?
I know archive.org has it (no idea if all of it), but would like something faster, and in fact I'd like to mirror it myself at dhewm3.org (like I do for iddevnet)

Related: I fucking hate it when Wikipedia decides that things should be deleted because they're not "relevant" (by some weird standards), or even not relevant *anymore*.

the alternative would be to accept that either God doesn't exist or
- doesn't care about you
- isn't that powerful
- is a sadist asshole
So of course if you (want to) believe in a "good" God, you have to explain the fucked up shit that happens *somehow*

Exactly 20 years ago, Doom3 was released!
To celebrate this, version 1.5.4 of the dhewm3 source port is released today: https://dhewm3.org/#dhewm3-1.5.4
The biggest new features since 1.5.3 are a completely new settings menu (can usually be opened with F10) and soft particles that don't "cut" into geometry.

Keep in mind that all this will be quite fragile.
You may be able to run x86_64 Linux or Windows binaries through Box64, but as Apple's ARM64 CPUs don't support 32bit at all, Box86 (for emulating 32bit x86 CPUs) doesn't work.
And remember that all those issues with binary-only software (that's not explicitly ported to arm64) aren't problems with Linux, but with using non-x86-hardware..
