Tavern Keeper has announced that it will no longer be launching with #Denuvo DRM
I think that when the dev announced back in 2024 that they 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 be...they did so without realizing the enormous ongoing cost it would be to secure Denuvo for it

Steam fans get furious that Epic were responsible for it being made. Remedy approached everyone to get funding, but no one wanted to touch it because the costs would be so high. When Epic funded it, they got the game on their platform...obviously it wouldn't even exist without Epic
Its just the same nonsense I see again and again, fury that it won't ever go to Steam. Fury at Epic for anti-consumer practices. People love to spout the same nonsense without knowing facts

Whatever you do, make sure you try the next one! Rise is up there as one of my fav games of recent years, its so satisfying. And considered by 99% of Tomb Raider fans (of the Survivor trilogy) as the best they did.
I'd be super curious to hear what you think of it, when you do!

Still using NSL? Sigh.
Heroic and Junk Store: neither of them use Epic's Launcher in the background to play the game.
I love the 'Survivor' trilogy though, all three games are amazing, Rise is everyone's fav for a reason, too. The second is by far the best of the games, but...don't expect too many puzzles, they really are action first (and for me, that's a good thing!)

Do we count emulation in the backlog? Because my ready-to-play-with-HD-texture-packs ROMs are a bit like a scary shape under the bed for small children. It is lurking and endless in a Lovecraftian way.

Every week or so I pop by #Reddit, purely because I have a lot of friends who are developers and run their own subs there. I like to see how crazy their community is, and then do a general search.
The amount of bots! All the rage-bait and the GPT-generated posts on Reddit is just crazy to me. Who enjoys that?

Pirate games are so few and far between. It's such a lovely theme and setting, and I've always loved pretending to be a pirate girl.
Thankfully there's a new one finally released on #GOG called Captain Blood (no, not the novel!)

Totally understandable. It's not for everyone and is quite a niche little world. The clients are FOSS, but the server is not. Matrix is probably the best alternative, but it's nice to just have a space with all like-minds and devs and creators and gamers and friends!

#TheLastOfUs Pt. 2 being labeled #SteamDeck verified is as exciting to me as a piece of plain old toast. Why would I be so excited about the second game (reportedly) playing well, while the first is objectively quite garbage? "Playable', but still...garbage?
Its like #GodOfWar - the first game plays poorly on the Deck, while Ragnarok the sequel plays really well.
Or #Uncharted not releasing the first 3 games on PC, but the subsequent games.

I'm typically not big on the whole phone gaming scene, but the #FOSS game on #fdroid (and as always I'll mention I use #droidify as my front-end) called Breakout 71 has me kinda obsessed.
Its a #roguelike twist on the old Breakout formula. And it 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴. Its only 110 KB in size. Its bright. The sound is beautiful. The design is amazing.
It suspends when you exit the window and its a true time-sink for #gaming
I adore #opensource and this one won my heart 💜

I got quite into Hardspace! It has that therapeutic 'chores ticked off' feeling to it. But now after playing so much? I couldn't even stand to boot the game. Weird isn't it, how you can adore something so much and then abhor it.
So, can definitely recommend it.

Like most, I love making mine have 'Switch-like' properties: rounded corners and cleaner interface.

The surprising thing to me was how often it gets updates. Far more and more regularly than any other game I've seen.
While its not typically a game I'd play, their excitement for their final 1.0 release was pretty infectious, and you're right: #GOG support is too important to ignore.
So, I'll pick it up to try :)

You make things clear, and accessible for people, which I like to see. When I was younger, being a girl learning coding felt very 'gatekept', I felt judgement quite a lot, so a lot of my early 'education' with programming in particular was through people's blogs, sites, YT channels.

Caves of Qud is nearing it's full 1.0 release date too!
After FIFTEEN PLUS YEARS OF BEING DEVELOPED (that's insane), it is so close, coming up and out on #GOG on December 5th this year!
Perhaps not my cup of tea? So to speak? But after seeing them releasing updates every few days forever, I'll support their efforts and buy on full release.
A #roguelike #RPG, it should tick boxes for all the genre's fans.

Emulating my #NintendoSwitch on my #SteamDeck just makes me so happy.
The ability to back my games up and then #emulate them, playing them at higher resolutions, with mods, better graphics and frame-rates? #gaming has had its set-backs with emulation in the last year, but some people forget...#Ryujinx and #Yuzu haven't stopped working, it's all SO very easy to set up.
I use #RetroDECK to emulate: all from my SD card: roms, emulators, bios, mods...all separate from the SSD.

Some nice news about the #NintendoSwitch emulator called #Ryujinx on my fav emulation suite on the #SteamDeck:
#RetroDECK developer Xargon confirms they will update Ryujinx to the latest version for users - and will not be removing it from RetroDECK.
Nice to see, as #Yuzu was removed from it when that was taken down.
#emulating and #gaming in 2024 is an interesting case...with a LOT of sad announcements recently, partocularly to so with #Nintendo

Well, considering leaving #Reddit
After moderating and building up my sub-reddit there ( reddit.com/r/SteamDeckPirates ) from 6K members to nearly 28K: for just under a year I find Reddit's new stance where they say they won't allow moderators to make their OWN subs private just...makes me angry
The idea that I do so much, and am not in control (they have done this to prevent further protests) leaves me soured.
#mastodon might just be my whole world now, the #fediverse might be it!

Is there anyone in #gaming or #retrogaming who can advise on older #playstation handhelds?
I adore the design language of the old #PSP - but there are a few models, which is 'the' one to get? Is it the 1000?
I'm just going to get a wrecked old one from Japan and reshell/new screen it. Then the adapter for the memory stick nonsense.
Or am I better just going for the #vita instead?

Before my day starts, I think a little #emulation on my #SteamDeck is in order. My fav emulator is #RetroDECK - it keeps all emulators, bios and roms on one SD card - freeing up all the space on the Deck's SSD for the important things!
I think Okami might be a good one for me to start my day with :)

A reminder that you can change your #Linux desktop on your #SteamDeck to whatever theme you want! Not just the background wallpaper, but the themes themselves are all interchangeable.
I love how #KDE lets you make what is yours even more 'you'. I chose a cozy lofi feeling for mine and I adore it :)
Now when #gaming and I need my desktop mode, I can feel super snug looking at it <3

Tomorrow I'll take my morning off and enjoy refurbishing this old #Nintendo #Gameboyadvance!!!
Time to change the shell over to a far prettier one, clean the PCB, take out the broken screen and solder in a IPS display. Simple little job but I do so love taking damaged old retro Nintendo consoles and giving them new life.
#gaming doesn't have to be fancy graphics or RGB lighting. Some of the old games are just as fun.
