They’ve never used a system where they were genuinely in control. The idea that you should be able to run arbitrary code on hardware you paid for is foreign to them — not rejected, but simply absent as a concept." npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer If you're a fan of of trackpoint-style input devices like the nubs used on IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads, the folks at @nprofile…0j9s may have a gadget for you: meet the Bean! npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer I'm having a hard time deciding which self-hosted photo management app I should use. The current candidates are Immich, Photoprism and Ente. I have a pretty large photo collection in a fairly flat directory hierarchy (hosted on TrueNAS). I add new albums by manually moving pictures into folders (to free up space on my mobile). But this makes these pictures inaccessible on my mobile, which sucks. How do others handle this? npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer @nprofile…cg6v gute Wahl, die Zugbegleiterin hatte einen erfrischenden Humor 😀 npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer @nprofile…cg6v meiner (ICE 588) fuhr weiter und hat eine Umleitung über Rotenburg genommen. 30 min Verspätung... npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer Me at @nprofile…7a7q tonight, when listening to the choons from @nprofile…r9se 😄 npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer @nprofile…60xv congrats on this release, great progress. Sadly, this update seems to have broken PWAs on macOS, as reported on your forum as well (I could not post there, as my messages get blocked by Akismet): npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer Today, my Shiftphone 8.1 finally arrived! It will replace my aging OnePlus 7T from 2019 which is already on the second battery (thanks to @nprofile…dxmq for the excellent support, spare parts and tools), running @nprofile…823y . npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer "Die zwölf reichsten Menschen der Welt besitzen heute mehr Vermögen als die ärmere Hälfte der Weltbevölkerung zusammen. Die Vermögen der Milliardäre sind in fünf Jahren um 80 Prozent gewachsen, allein im letzten Jahr um 16 Prozent. Das ist keine normale Marktdynamik mehr, sondern eine strukturelle Schieflage. Two of my former colleagues and friends ended up homeless due to unexpected circumstances. Seeing how quickly their lives turned into a downward spiral that was very difficult to escape without external help was surprising. npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer #CriticalPizza auf der gestrigen #CriticalMass in #Hamburg mit geilen Sounds von @nprofile…l0ym , powered by @nprofile…anda npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer Die #criticalmass in #Hamburg am 25. Danke auch an @nprofile…l0ym für die geile Beschallung! npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer "Science is a self-correcting process. To be accepted, new ideas must survive the most rigorous standards of evidence and scrutiny. The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in religion and politics, but it is not the path to knowledge; it has no place in the endeavor of science." - Carl Sagan npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer "Meta’s Llama 4 model is banned for use by any EU-based entity, with the restriction hardcoded into its license. This unprecedented move isn’t technical—it’s legal—and reflects Meta’s attempt to sidestep immediate regulatory burdens imposed by the EU AI Act. While framed as “open,” Llama 4’s license blocks entire regions, enforces brand control, and limits redistribution—violating core principles of open source." npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer Auch in der Schweiz wird das Recht auf Privatsphäre weiter eingeschränkt. @nprofile…8qq0 erwägt, eine Volksinitiative dagegen zu starten, @nprofile…m7my würde abwandern. npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer I learned about Filius (https://gitlab.com/filius1/filius), a Java-based education application for teaching the basics of networking. You can create arbitrary network topologies using routers and switches, attach client and server computers which can even run services like a DNS, http or SMTP server. Each client has a minimalistic shell for network debugging purposes, providing the usual commands like `ping`, `traceroute` or `ipconfig`. IPv4 only, but that's OK for the basics and getting started. npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer @nprofile…typy have you looked at @nprofile…4new ? npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer If you're using #Ceph as an #S3 compatible object storage, please note that latest versions of the #AWS CLI and SDKs now require data integrity checks via CRC algorithms that Ceph currently does not support. npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer @nprofile…827z I performed upgrades to Ubuntu 24.04 on several family laptops, replaced batteries in a smartphone (and upgraded it to LineageOS) and earbud headphones. Productive days! npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer Thanks to @nprofile…3v0z , I managed to replace the batteries in my Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds and in my OnePlus 7T phone without damaging any of the devices. The phone runs @nprofile…ykkh now, so it should be good for a few more years. npub174gvuwus8eftxgf0m3uqq97eenngsjess49d5h6jvznrg9l93plsgrz72h Lenz Grimmer Wolkenbruch in #Hamburg. They can't change the database licence even if they wanted to, as it's a derivative of Oracle MySQL and they are not the sole copyright holders. Only Oracle themselves can change the licence, as they own the entire intellectual property. In fact, they do - it's called MySQL Enterprise.
