Hey why not use SingleFile for the archiving sites on the ditto extension? No risk of the site partially failing or getting partially deleted.

Any chance you'd share that backup as a raw dump? I run 8 relays and have 40TB sitting idle. I'll handle making the torrent and seed it indefinitely, you'd just need to get me the file once. Feels wrong for 125M events of history to exist in one place.

Wild that instead of taking the failed BIP-110 as a sign that the new rules smuggled in too many unnecessary restrictions, all these guys take it as a sign of moral failure of the "BTC guys". Arbitrary data is still a concern of mine, especially with storage space increasing in cost, but every time I reviewed BIP-110 it seemed to be cutting out and changing more than necessary to achieve its goals.

The missing thing is that nobody runs exploration here. On the big platforms a percentage of impressions gets spent on accounts nobody has heard of, to see whether they do well, and they bother with that because losing new creators costs them money. There's no equivalent pressure on nostr, so WoT ends up being the only signal and all it tells you is who already vouched for someone, which costs a replyguy nothing to manufacture.
Nothing about nostr rules out fixing it though. Someone could run a ranking DVM funded by ads and it would be fine, since if you don't like it you subscribe to a different one.

You should tie bitcoin to your npub. Because it's *useful.*
Right now, knowing your nsec is compromised requires the person who compromised it to be a white hat. That's the entire security model. I've thought about key compromise since day one and this solves a massive headache.
Bitcoin on the npub is the most explicit pay-for-your-privacy system online. You choose the size of the carrot, and you only pay if it fails. The money never leaves your hands unless your nsec is already compromised.
If the funds move, you know. Immediately. The more you leave on the npub, the harder it is for someone holding your nsec to sit still.
The previous incentive for black hats was to sit on an nsec as long as possible and collect as much compromising data as possible. Now they have to weigh stealing the funds directly vs hoovering up private data indefinitely. Every day they wait, they're paying an opportunity cost you set.
The effect is that your private DMs and other encrypted material are safer, because the sooner the canary dies, the sooner you move off the nsec and the less future data gets compromised.

Violence (or the credible threat of it) does solve resource allocation and control problems in the real world. States can seize your hardware, raid your house, imprison you, freeze your bank accounts, conscript you, or destroy your means of living. Cryptography protects the information, but it doesn't protect the resources needed to generate, store, or use that information. In the end, the side with superior coercive force can still win by controlling the physical layer... computers, people, energy, networks, money.

There are true adherents obedient to the central god of the community first and personal next. Then there are those obedient only to their personal god, who get excluded from community. And then there are those who LARP as adherents to the central god but adhere to their personal god whenever they can get away with it.
Obedience to the personal god is joy. To the central god is both work and suffering, but community from this obedience is the source of all goodness out of civilization: medicine, technology.
Exception: among Jews, the goodness flows the other way, from those excluded for obeying only their personal god.

2026-05-24 10:30:44 GMT

- reply

As simple as possible. It should be transparent. So you can see on posts (1 of N or 2 of N keys used to sign). The list of pubkeys associated is updateable as just a simple event and list. If there's a conflict between 2 keys in a set signing changes without each other, it would split the identity in clients. Both would remain "followed" and users can decide which is the "true" owner.

2026-05-24 10:17:31 GMT

- reply

there is no master, only a set. Because control of any of the set means the core identity hasn't been lost. People can choose which to trust if there's an even break. Keys can arbitrarily be added or removed from the set

2026-05-24 10:13:51 GMT

Could be interesting to add an arbitrary amount of private keys to sign with my current private key to reinforce that I am the owner. No identity recycling required, and when one or more keys is compromised, the remaining ones can sign the abandonment of that key. Run and gun with some keys, while others are held more securely.
