It calls for 2 and 2.75 mm but I didn't have those and tend to have a tighter tension so I am using 2.5 and 3.25. And none of my small hooks have grips, they are straight metal ones. Since I rarely use them, I didn't replace them with more ergonomic ones. Yet.
The colour changes from a bright yellow to a darker one to blue and then black. So if I do come up short on yarn I can always get more black.

I still remember when the Canadian military replaced their Jeeps with the Iltis in the mid-80s. Dad was a mechanic and they absolutely hated them. And not just because they all knew how to fix Jeeps, but because the new one did not handle well, was unstable, and a pain in the ass to get running again when it (often) broke down. Those who had to drive them didn't like them much either.

I've been watching the Mapperton re-wilding videos on YouTube. This is on the property of the Earl of Sandwich. He explains at one point that they took poor arable land. It would probably be good for grazing though. They get subsidies, in very specific cases, for this and they have to jump through several hoops. They also turn the farmhouses into 'holiday lets'. I understand that their historic house costs a lot to maintain (and they have to jump through a lot of hoops to renovate or restore that too), and that the farms just weren't as financially attractive, but people need to eat. I kind of get why they are doing it, but food production is also important. At least one of the farms is being used to bring back a heritage breed of cattle, so that's good, I guess.

I have a smartboard and white boards. I miss the chalkboards.
I do find the smartboard handy because I also have a small camera that I can connect to my laptop to do demos of painting techniques or whatever and have it project on the board so the class can see what I am doing without having to gather around my desk.
