My nix store is also ~22GB. I think this is similar to having many docker images or node_modules hosted locally. I would imagine this can be circumvented by running garbage collection often, and keeping flakes up to date. I personally use flakes only for dev projects, and keep "things global" for my computer env. for server setups, it's possible to host /nix/store on a shared NFS volume across computers. npub17h8dzp2macgv0lwjt8sk7jzjhs37crlh4am6hwsush06h6ex3fzs6n7j4l José Albornoz @npub1upk…tcwy I don’t understand the question, if you ask for 12 different versions, then the system needs to store 12 versions, no? — if I have 100 flakes that all need the same libc, it’ll only be stored once. npub17h8dzp2macgv0lwjt8sk7jzjhs37crlh4am6hwsush06h6ex3fzs6n7j4l José Albornoz @npub1upk…tcwy my mental model is that flakes doesn’t need to solve the 1000 versions of libc problem, because nix store hashing will. all flakes share the global nix store, so deduplication happens at that level. Kind of like having two ruby projects with their own gemfile.lock, but installing all gems in your home folder and bundler sets up the path correctly.
