When I was working for a place in Shoreditch, I'd go into the local Chinese once a week, usually ordering the sea spiced chicken. Each week they'd make it a bit hotter for me. Sadly the company went bust before I found out which of us would cave first.

When I last looked, the Brother L8260CDW seemed promising, but I didn't buy and I shall be interested in what you end up with. (When I wanted a B&W printer with a 500 sheet paper tray, since like basically everybody I buy paper by the 500 sheets, I had to go into the "small business" "have your purchasing manager call for pricing" sort of range.)

So… judging by the manual, a CD ripper and three MP3 players in a trenchcoat? Fascinating hardware solution to something I'd do with mpd/snapcast and a bit of programming.

I'm still using Dymo 4xx printers (especially the 4XL for address labels), ebay mostly, the thing that apparently breaks is the plastic spool holder and you can 3d print that.

The next Festival is happening in August, so it's probably a bad idea to go to Edinburgh then. Otherwise I don't know much about things to see there.

I'll back other recommendations depending on what you're into. The V&A is right next to the Science and Natural History museums, which makes life easier.

I was not impressed by a recent IWM visit: probably good for the basic "here is how WWI/WWII worked, also war is Not Fun" but little to offer if you're more geeky/informed than that already. If you like blades, armour and early guns, the Wallace Collection is an under-appreciated gem. (Central London is quite small and it's easy to walk to most places.)

I suppose it depends on whether the twocker returned it. Which you don't know, and WBAC don't have to tell you. I think in your position I might let them know, in a "just for information" way.
(But not by a phone call, of course. I may be old but I'm not that old.)

Makes sense, and maybe one could rig up a controller to imitate it but getting it _just right_ would be a project in itself.

I'm sure you have thought of this already, but is there a technical reason why you're not using stupidly bright LEDs in place of the halogens (with a controller for the slow on/off), or taste, or something else I haven't thought of?

A phenomenon I have noticed recently: when people are talking about "worst Star Trek" (what can I say, I hang around people who have this sort of conversation) they often seem to have blanked that one out of their memories. So I wait for the tactical moment and murmur "Threshold"…

I haven't really got it yet, but it's "good enough". Nobody taught me; I just worked it out by imitation. I suppose I could watch some videos; that might help.

One of the problems is money. If you have an RPG division you see as a profit centre, you have to chase the mass market who will constantly be buying stuff, and you have no incentive to publish a one-off set of rules that people can then play with forever.

Work started a long service reward scheme. I got £200. But not to spend on something myself, and not part of a bigger thing - they had to do the purchase, and it had to be a single item not exceeding £200. In the end my wife and I could think of nothing more useful than a #ukuelele (my second).

For me, introverted rather than autistic I think, I've lately found it very easy to get fed up with a book whether it's on paper or on Kobo, and put it aside to do something else for a bit. A book has to be more engaging to keep me reading than it did ten years ago. But I don't _think_ physical format is a big part of it.

What I want from the ID3 tags and filename of your #podcast: who you are, what the episode number is, ideally what this episode is about.
What you give me: a load of random numbers and the exact versions of the software you used to make it and now the timestamps of every time you saved the project. (Not nearly often enough.)

I remember when 4GLs were the hot new thing. (Look it up, kids.) You won’t need programmers any more, they said, you’ll just describe what you want the program to do and the computer will do the hard part.
Yeah, said the programmers, actually it turns out that “describing what you want the program to do” is the hard part, and the best tools we have for that are programming languages. Your 4GL still needs a programmer to drive it, and produces a slower result.
(Some of them have survived for specific tasks.)

Several eastern European cities have made public transport free at the point of use. Which doesn't actually cost much, because you throw away all that infrastructure of ticket barriers and inspectors and expensive court cases. And lots more people use it instead of cars, even where having a car is still a status symbol.

Obviously counterbalanced purple left and teal right would work. I might also look out along the reddish-browns. Or pure white, or a very pale violet.

A problem I noticed at school that seemed worse with maths than with other subjects: one bad teacher, or a teacher who's having to read one chapter ahead of the class while juggling a bunch of other jobs, can destroy the spirit of enquiry and experimentation for life.
