Last Notes npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex self-hosting certainly isn’t for everyone, and id never recommend it to anyone who isn’t willing to know they are going to have to devote time to being their own tech support/security consultant, etc. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex replace “any” with “every”. At this point they are a requirement as far as I’m concerned. Also trying out using privacy focused DNS servers. And self-host the things that are in my means/ability. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex Bluesky is speed running Twitter’s enshitification. I used Bluesky for about a week when I could first get an account and it seemed pretty clear what path they were going to do down. Haven’t signed back in ever since. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex nah, mostly we used to have good PR on the world stage - but ask minorities here in the US and they’ll tell you it’s always leaned towards fascism. Our current administration just not longer feels the need to hide it anymore and have stomped down on the gas pedal as we barrel of the cliff. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex those are some stunning views! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex enjoy the vacation! I’ve always wanted to visit Spain. Hope you have a much deserved relaxing time, and that you get fabulous news about the new home! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex thanks for all the hard work you do! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex yeah, it’d be crazy to come here these days. Heck, if I could feasibly get out of here I would. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex to be fair, if less people had patience for it long ago, before a lot of it started, maybe thy could have clamped down on it and prevented so many horrible things. It’s giving the bad actors just an inch, just a whiff of credibility that allows them to gain the foothold. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex After a wonderful afternoon of attending a talk by @npub1fdr…lvhs - I now have the rest of my evening sorted! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex that’s the downside of my fanless laptop with no moving parts. There are times I have no way of quickly telling if it’s doing anything. Whereas my old machine… you knew from three blocks away when I was compiling something. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex the bad shot going on here day after day is exhausting, and I’m in a bit of a privileged position. I can’t imagine how horrific it must be for many of my fellow Americans. It makes me wish I had some kind of exit strategy. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex just keeping a great server up and running outside of US jurisdiction is a huge thing for many people. Thanks, and keep up the good work! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex so that’s why my 12 year old licks motel walls. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex I think I’m more enticed by a game that costs a couple bucks rather than one that’s free. When I see when for free I always wonder if the cost isn’t money… well then what is the real cost? npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex then Charles Brown took all the leftover words and strung them together to create“Carwin the Biloquist”. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex I proposed without a ring. It was actually a spontaneous kind of moment (given my anxiety problems I was nervous as hell and when the impulse hit I decided screw all the fancy stuff, just do it before I chicken out again). We ended up getting a pair of ear rings my mom gave me that came from my great grandmother, took the small diamonds from them, and had one put in to an engagement ring and one out in to my eventual wedding band. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex heck, I don’t think we need US sized cars in the US. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex well shit, there’s goes another future career for me down the drain! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex you know, I’d be okay with this. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex happy birthday! May you have many more revolutions around the sun! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex thank you for being part of making it all possible! npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex we’d be living in a better world if only that were true. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex just another day here in the Felonious States of America. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex this one made me throw up in my mouth a little. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex it’s the right thing to do. They want it it to seem hard, to seem like well it’s terrible over there, but there is some good and we don’t want to lose that… that’s the trap, to make you think it’s inescapable. See it with Facebook and older folk in the US, and in so many countries with WhatsApp. Sometimes doing the right thing is painful, but I do believe, in the end, it is better for the soul. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex but once he finds the “perfect grill” he then realizes all the things the grill he ended up with was missing, becomes envious of his buddies new grill, and then starts the search anew. It’s a never ending struggle. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex that checks out. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex I’ll be honest, one of my pleasures is going back and playing games from my youth like Ultimate, and Wizardry. npub17te2qw5ffgjh7mgtmlaq0wexgvvqmv93nhgf86krlxl0urnta84qwxl3kc Alex hopefully a fix happens soon, but until then I’ll just resort to checking the website regularly like some sort of barbarian. 😁 Seriously though, love the content and I’m happy to enjoy it any way that I can.
