That wouldn't be entirely correct. Donations do play a part for Ardour, but much of the income arrives from subscriptions. So we actually do have a business model of sorts

We've just released Ardour 9.7 with further MIDI editing improvements, a more convenient way to enable control surfaces, a brand-new vertical summary/scrollbar, and important bugfixes
Please see here for the full release notes:

Vertical summary was just a tad too late for inclusion into v9.5, but the next version will have this more visual vertical scrollbar for navigating the session

Now that we have a MIDI inspector with chords and quantization in pianoroll interfaces, why not have it in the editor? :)

That's the kind of feedback we'd use on a landing page if we ever had one, thanks! 😆

We've just tagged the second release candidate of Ardour 9.0 and announced strings freeze, so that translators can start their work safely.
Please use https://nightly.ardour.org/ to download and test. Since Ardour 9.0 is not yet ready for production use, please do not package it for Linux distributions.
We expect to tag at least one more release candidate.

New in development: hold Shift, then click and drag to brush-paint notes at global quantization. Works in both the inline editor, the bottom editor panel, and the pianoroll window. Coming in Ardour 9.0 whenever it's ready. Patch by @npub10wt…mp63

Mastering for different media requires extra work. Major streaming platforms have different ideas about what the perceived loudness of your music should be, and expect you to conform to them.
With Ardour, you don’t have to make all these adjustments manually every time you need to export a project. Instead, you can export multiple variations of a mix from presets. Let’s learn how to do that!

Complex sessions need organization to be manageable. You can organize tracks with color-coding and groups, but time-wise, your best tools are location markers and region markers. Here is how you can create and edit the latter

We've just released v8.12 with two fixes:
1. The fix for region lengths from v8.11 was incorrect, we implemented it differently this time.
2. Translation file packaging on macOS is now correct; localization should work again on that platform.

When you record the same instrument in the same studio and process it more or less the same way, you can avoid doing all the configuration over and over again. All you have to do to save time is create and then use a track template. Here is how you do it

Complex plugins can display tens and even hundreds of controls. You might just want quick access to a couple of them to tweak while working. That's where inline mixer controls come in handy!

You can control Ardour over MIDI: roll and stop transport, arm for recording, change gain/pan in tracks and busses, and do other things. Ardour ships with 50+ MIDI maps, mostly for some of the MIDI keyboards by AKAI, M-Audio, Novation, and Arturia. If there is no ready-to-use MIDI map for your particular device yet, you can create your own. Here is how you do that

Ardour ships with 50+ ready-to-use MIDI maps. So if you have a supported device, you can control basic things like transport in the program from a MIDI keyboard, and it works very nearly out of the box. Here's how you can do it
