Filter sits in front of our public relay aggregator so as long as the zap ends up on one of the many public relays we read from, it will make it to filter.
Only paid users can write to filter and we broadcast those notes back out.
We COULD add this to nostr.wine since it works like most paid relays, but it does open up a way to get spammed. We whitelisted most of the large wallet providers a while back but if you run your own zapper you’ll need to buy access for it as well.

It started as a weekend project but took a bit longer to make it extensible and stable. I didn’t ever promote it much.
I use it 24/7 for our relays and not sure what I’d do without it tbh. None of the other monitoring services give me what I need for nostr relays.

Put more simply: a way for our relay to know who is making requests for notes. Without it, we have no way to restrict access to only our paying customers.
It also lets us protect your DM metadata by only allowing the author and recipient to query the event on nostr.wine.

Primal doesn’t support NIP-42 so it won’t work with filter unfortunately. We’ve asked several times if it’s on their roadmap but never gotten a response.

Yeah, unfortunately no guarantees on preventing rebroadcasting - just our best effort solution. It is effective on most relay implementations but there is nothing stopping anyone from accepting the notes if they want.
It will be rejected by relays that support expiration or “-“ tags. Resharing of Creatr hosted media is more robust.

Some type of nostr.wine package that includes everything. We’ll work on that. It makes sense to me.
Both relays send the pop up notifications that appear on Amethyst and both also send DM reminders. Unfortunately Amethyst is the only client that supports the NOTIFY message so we support both options.

The only time we send the NOTIFY is after an AUTH from an unpaid pubkey (and only once per connection). Any chance you could be AUTHing with a giftwrap pubkey instead of the user’s pubkey?

You are absolutely right that there isn’t a good solution currently for where to “put” or how to label proxy relays.
I always envisioned a proxy relay as more of an “app” relay. The implementation part is still up for debate.
I think a separate encrypted list (outside of 10002) that isn’t meant to be shared with other users could be a solution for this. Another proposed solution is to add more labels to relays in 10002 events.

I haven’t had a chance to play with the new Amethyst relay settings yet but this looks ok to me from what I can tell!
Small note: you don’t need ?broadcast=true anymore on filter as that is the default. If you wish to disable broadcasting you can still use ?broadcast=false

I think I know what’s going on. If you just send an event to inbox it should work fine but if you AUTH to inbox without a paid account you get the payment notice.
I will change it to prompt only if you make a REQ instead and that should solve this.

Inbox is built differently than most paid relays. It’s free to write private events as long as the tagged user has a paid “inbox”.

Have you tried using nostr.wine for this? We support NIP-50 and pull search results from our aggregator so it should have fairly good coverage (though not as complete as nostr.band).

There are some public relays that have changed to paid relays in recent months. Perhaps that could be a cause?

I wish people were a bit more considerate when building their scrapers…some of them have miserable reconnection logic and are very buggy. Majority don’t have user-agents.

Clients and relays are going to do whatever their developers/operators choose to do, regardless of Reportinator or anything else.
There is nothing the collective “we” can do to stop anyone from making content reports, labels, or prevent anyone else from using them.
If your client or relay does something you don’t like, use a new one. That’s the value of the protocol.

It has AUTH (through ndk I believe)…it just doesn’t work ☹️
A trick you can do is login, sign (2 for some reason?) the auth events and then logout while it’s loading indefinitely. Somehow that triggers the events to render, or at least it used to a while back.

The original developer mentioned the only issue - he had to extend his Apple developer account to publish it. He said he likely won’t do it again next year.

I’m not exactly sure, but I think it has something to do with AUTH. You need to go in to Settings -> App Settings and enable “Authenticate with relays” and save.
You don’t need to AUTH for nostr.wine unless you’re requesting DMs but it’s possible when it gets an AUTH prompt it stops using that relay unless that setting is turned on. Perhaps @npub1jlr…ynqn can clarify for us.

Not sure - no issues on the relay side.
I use exclusively my own relays and haven’t experienced any issues on Damus, Nostur, or Amethyst. We also closely monitor performance across all regions.

As long as your client supports AUTH - you shouldn’t need to configure anything else.
The challenging part is trying to get clients to respect where you want DMs (and other private events) sent.
