In 1980, fossils were found that were informally named as the "Hell Creek alvarezsaur" by Hutchinson and Chiappe in 1998. In 2020 Denver Fowler and colleagues named the species and genus based on three claw phalanges from MD-I-2. Trierarchuncus is named after Captain Hook, of Peter Pan fame, because of the distinctive large claw on its hand. Its believed to have been an insectivore. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/116/699/642/136/887/748/original/e19f44d6e36a9864.jpg https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/116/699/646/257/518/201/original/9751e37553369ce8.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil. They were part of the Zorba Extension Opal Field. In 1988, the chairman of the company Comrealty ("Mr. Sid Londish") bought the specimen. Later that year he donated it to the Australian Museum. In September 1988, it was prepared by the Australian Museum. In the 1940s, a fire at the AMNH destroyed most of the collected specimens. In the 1960s, more of those bones were thrown away after falling apart in storage. Leaving about 10% of the original collected bones In 2015, after reexamining the surviving bones, some where isolated and renamed Kaatedocus. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/116/342/282/889/664/936/original/0c97b215df2abe7f.jpg https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/116/342/283/582/101/922/original/d04e6cbcf62240a4.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil. He sent them to Thomas Jefferson as he was getting ready to become president. Jefferson examined the femur fragment, ulna, radius and foot bones, including three large claws and wrote a paper about them. He named the animal Megalonyx from the Greek "Mega" (giant) and "Onyx" (claw). Apatosaurus was originally found by Arthur Lakes and Henry C Beckwith in spring 1877, in Morrison. They contacted Othniel Charles Marsh, and after sending him some of the fossils, he named the species Apatosaurus. Two years later March discovered a larger, more complete specimen and called it Brontosaurus. This was later synonymized to Apatosaurus. Its still debated if Brontosaurus is its own species or just Apatosaurus. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/115/787/369/612/755/859/original/e02e597a85afeb64.jpg https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/115/787/371/818/645/829/original/f538c7a4dc3c4524.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Achelousaurus The skull of Achelousaurus were found in 1987 by Sidney M. It refers to the points on the frill. A bonebed found in Alberta contains hundreds of individuals of varying ages. It appears they all drowned while crossing a river. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/115/390/843/703/721/460/original/ab8c55bfe266e084.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/115/390/845/386/767/312/original/03f2f99822dfe7ce.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil. Beeston et al, reviewed the relationships of Diamantinasaurus and found Australotitan was closely related to Diamantinasaurus. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/726/247/975/886/690/original/c6dc3102cb8f5a3e.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/726/255/944/710/190/original/9cc963f25bd7bb03.jpg https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/726/257/572/743/501/original/2f3fd889f3f1b963.jpg npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Edmontosaurus The history of Edmontosaurus is Complex. In 1891 John Bell Hatcher recovered a partial skull-roof and skeleton. In 1882, Othniel Charles Marsh named that fossil Claosaurus annectens. In 1902 John Bell Hatcher tried to synonymize Cionodon, Diclonius, Hadrosaurus, Ornithotarsus, Pteropelyx, Thespesius, Claorhynchus, and Polyonax (the last two being fragmentary ceratopsians), as Trachodon. In 1917, Lawrence Lambe named Edmontosaurus, https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/647/024/513/949/795/original/3d038e86f744dcfe.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/647/024/570/167/661/original/86b1749a23766564.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave @nprofile…xn9u ikr haha npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave Was at #ScenicWorld in the #BlueMountains and they have a fossil display... that includes a Tyrannosaurus tooth... Can someone confirm the authenticity please image attached... I didnt even notice tbh. It grabbed the image from the wiki page and all it says is "Reconstructed skeleton, possibly with a proportionally too long skull, Fernbank Museum of Natural History" So if you know someone from there, you might get the answer. npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Giganotosaurus In 1993, while driving a dune buggy, amateur fossil hunter Rubén Darío Carolini found a tibia of a large theropod. Later that year, Specialists from the National University of Comahue were sent to excavate the specimen after being notified of the find. In 1994, Rodolfo Coria and Leonardo Salgado announced the discovery at a Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. In 1995, they formally published and named it Giganotosaurus carolinii https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/607/149/299/450/351/original/6101ab0259d0ee27.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/607/150/133/284/590/original/fd4a6e5870ee8755.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave @nprofile…hujc indeed it is. This is one of S7evinDes best build imo. He calls it Allosaurus, but its the same relative size as the rex model so i went with a close relative, "the Gig" npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil. This one I would rate as medium. This very large famous theropod is from South America. Reminder: hide your answer behind a content warning. This will allow others to guess without a hint. I will post the answer tomorrow (and to anyone who guesses correctly). This is designed by S7evinDE https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/601/787/690/129/062/original/968ba2a68fc06abf.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave @nprofile…hujc yeah for what it is its an interesting build. I dont intend on making it from the set, i basically bought it, to digitise it into lego, and then on sell the other set. But it has some interesting building ideas i never considered. Stuff that i might use in my own builds later. I cant wait to do their other builds now. npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave Sooo... I bought me the Infinite Creativity Brachiosaurus. A non-lego building brick fossil sets. I then remade it digitally from actual lego (some modifications were needed). I also renamed it, Cedarosaurus, because it was smaller than most of the the other sauropod/titanosaur fossils I have. Let me know what you think. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/596/474/984/328/987/original/f523d8e88b2cc65c.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/596/475/624/340/245/original/11cdc4d2aac7d03d.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/596/476/066/506/534/original/431aca42a9efc7d7.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil. This one I would rate as easy. This well known ceratopsian is famous for possibly being an adult version of another dinosaur. Reminder: hide your answer behind a content warning. This will allow others to guess without a hint. I will post the answer tomorrow (and to anyone who guesses correctly). This is a modification of the original lego triceratops fossil I did, turning it into something new. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/523/067/773/301/759/original/0e8cbd4449b21c53.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave @nprofile…hujc @nprofile…xn9u @nprofile…5r3x if the site alive, and potentially allows it to be updates, then its worth it :D npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave I just seen this posted by Mike Everhart on facebook. I felt a lot on here would want to know Requiem for an Old Website: OceansofKansas.com came online in December, 1996 simply because there was no comparable source of information on mosasaurs and other marine fossils on the young Internet. It grew very large over the years...more than 240 individual pages ... paleo history, fossils, discoveries, news, resources, adventures, and so on.... In 1901, Riggs published a short report on the new find, noting the unusual length of the humerus (front leg) compared to the femur (back leg), resulting in a Giraffe like posture. In 1903, Riggs formally named the species Brachiosaurus altihorax. This fossil was regarded as the largest known dinosaur at the time. https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/488/268/474/497/602/original/5610f9af9752e72b.png https://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/113/488/269/205/890/655/original/7996f67ac8e7a403.png npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave @npub1gpa…xlk0 gotta balance the strength of the connection vs weight of the antlers npub18qtn0t9q7a7nnst5zjx2duevy0292ulggkrxsmd6mkmlphq227ks7ufmce The Dinosaur Dave Here we see the final version of the build.
