Hey fedi. Someone posted our reposted a blog post on here about a comparison between blogging and social media. I thought I favourited it to read later, but I didn't. Does anyone know I'd remember where I can give it?

SPACES or TABS?

Since #Firefox seem to be blindly forcing AI into is browser, does anyone know of a Firefox-based browser that has explicitly come out against AI. Have Librewolf or Icecat made a statement that they'll try and remove.not include any embedded AI components?

I really would have thought that in this day-and-age FOSS contributors would at least have accounts on the open source git repos. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Knowing that Peertube's RSS feeds can be picked up by post readers, I'm giving serious thought to quitting YouTube in favour of the Fedi. The last few weeks, YouTube has really made themselves out to be such a shit company and I think it's time to really think about what I make and where it goes online. Might even get back into writing.
I love the Fedi's thoughts on this though.

YouTube's new anti trans policy changes are really making me want to stop posting videos there. I'm going to be giving some serious thought to what I will do next.

My (UK) pay-as-you-go mobile phone provider, 1p Mobile, have just increased their minimum monthly top-up to £5 (£10 for two months). The feels a lot considering I only use my phone number to log in to WhatsApp and to take like three phone calls a year.
Does anyone know of any cheaper UK PAYG options? I really just want to keep my phone number connected for as cheaply as possible.

Yeah, it's like a whole broad vibe of it feeling like it's decaying slowly. Fewer comments-to-views, less community chatter, indie creators leaving the platform in droves.
I think YouTube wants to pivot to TV and shorts.

It kinda feels like YouTube is slowly dying as a platform.
It's so big it'll hold itself upright for a long while, but I deffo think it's on the decline. Same with other corporate social media tbh.

2024-09-26 16:05:24 GMT

Yeah, the artefacting on YouTube is definitely getting worse. Not that I really mind, but I wonder what it means.
Are they nerfing Firefox? Are they cutting costs? Is it because I'm adblocking?

2024-07-06 19:38:43 GMT

Debates are not an intellectual pursuit. It's the WWE of politics.
The 'they go low, we go high' rhetoric just rolls out the carpet for Trump.
And if Trump didn't win this debate, Biden's toast and the the Dems that did it, along with a side-helping of elder-abuse. They spend decades silencing the voices of third parties, and fending off any kind of electoral reform, only to then to screw up thing they justified it for.

2024-07-06 18:45:49 GMT

- reply

That would have required political savvy and courage, but you're right.
Personally I feel the rules were intended to benefit Biden, but it didn't pan out that way. Trump is good at debates, unless you have a candidate who can go up against him, they're better off staying home.
Admittedly Biden was better against Trump last time around, but Trumps a bully, and that's hard to beat.

2024-07-06 14:25:54 GMT

- reply

"the media pretends was so disastrous"
Nice gaslighting, but we all saw the debate. And it's not just one bad performance. Biden knows it and he feels awful about it, and my heart kinda breaks for him tbh.
You've lost the argument when you're telling people not to believe their eyes and ears. Stuff like this is why independent voters don't like Dems, because you treat them like idiots.
https://cdn.masto.host/tootwales/media_attachments/files/112/739/978/214/637/315/original/49f796afc9da7db8.mp4

2024-07-06 04:40:18 GMT

- reply

The trouble is, this isn't a values call. A moral argument isn't really addressing the issue.
The question is where or not Biden will lose the election when an alternative choice would win. I'm told switching to anyone but Harris would mean basically mean having to start fundraising from scratch.
So, do the Dems stick the course with Biden, or gamble with Harris? Who's most likely to win, Biden, Harris, or someone else?

Why don't they teach sign language at school? It would be such a useful skill, to have another way to communicate.
Not only would deaf people be less isolated from conversations, but there are countless other uses, like being able to communicate in a noisy crowded room, or quietly over substantial distances.
Could even work as an alternative to subtitles for films. Kinda blows my mind how countries don't seem to do this.

Wow, could Macron win the 2024 award for the politician who fucked himself the hardest? I've never seen anyone (metaphorically) punch themself in the face so hard.
And there's some top tier competition for that spot.
Good on the left unity though. We could always use more left unity.

I'm a happy #Linux user, but I want more operating systems, more choices, lots of interoperability, so people can find stuff that works for them.
I can get really uppity when people tell me what I should do, so it stands to reason I shouldn't do it to others. So important we make our own choices.

Watching people get rage baited into arguing with ChatGPT Twitter bots is so fascinating to watch. They don't know they're doing it, but it's so clear form the outside, they're just in a bubble of their own rage.
I can't look away, I'm just up all hours of the night watching people have conversations with computers. This world has become so fucking weird to me.
