I'm checking out Proton Mail.
To import my Gmail with their Easy Switch tool I have to give my Google account credentials to the Proton Mail app. My Google account credentials are THE MOST SENSITIVE credentials I have and I'm not giving them to any website that isn't google.com.
Can someone explain to me like I'm a child why I should trust Proton Mail with my Google creds?
That point aside, apparently it's not possible to import mbox or eml files into Proton Mail unless you have a paid subscription. (IIRC there was a restriction like this for Tuta mail as well when I tried it about a year ago.)
If I can't import at least some of my old email I can't really know whether Proton or Tuta will work for me.
Admittedly, I'm being cheap. I'll pay for a month of Proton so that I can do a reasonable test, but it seems like they should support this in the free tier so people can make an informed decision.

I'm disgusted with Google's immediate capitulation to Trump's juvenile renaming of Lake Ontario.
Degoogling is a lot of work, but it's time to start working on it again and https://www.optoutproject.net/the-cyber-cleanse-take-back-your-digital-footprint/ looks like a pretty good place to start.

I think this is also solved in package systems that use Minimal Version Selection. No automatic version increases. What you build tomorrow is the same as what you built today, unless you explicitly add or update a dependency.
I'm not a Rustacean but it looks like 1.2.3 means ">=1.2.3, <2.0.0" so you get automatic upgrades when new minor/patch versions are released.
Not a silver bullet because you can still get surprises when you add a _new_ dependency and it requires a higher version of something else, but neither is a cool down period.
I've mostly been in the Go and Lispy worlds though, so I don't have real world experience with package systems like Cargo. I'm sure there are up sides, like maybe having to do fewer explicit dep updates.

I'm looking to move off of #google products, particularly #gmail and #googledrive . If you have experience moving away from those two products I'd be interested to hear what you use in their place and what are the good/bad aspects of it. I currently pay for Drive and am happy to pay for a good product from a good company.
I prefer to support a smaller company. Maybe a #canadian one?
(I'm a former Google employee in the US who is disgusted with the needless layoffs that destroyed internal Google culture, and with #sundarpichai sucking up to authoritarians.)

Wanted to install #Bazel (the Google build system) on my Mac. The first thing they do is make me decide whether to install Bazel itself or install Bazelisk, a tool that installs Bazel.

I meant to say "...buttons do?" rather than "...buttons mean?" I can see that they mean we mutually follow each other.
I can even DEDUCE that if I click it the only reasonable thing would be for it to unfollow the person. But a good UI shouldn't force me to make logical deductions. This button should be labelled Unfollow if that's the action it will perform.
I mean, by this logic the "Follow back" button should be labelled "Non-mutual" or "It's only you, baby!"
:) No strong opinions here. Nope. :)
