Voter ID laws are making it illegal to vote in many cases, especially for married women who have changed their name and don't have birth certificates that match their current name. The reason they are trying to make voting harder is because voting does actually matter.

It's a slightly separate topic, but I'm interested in building and selling FOSH headsets for low vision people to see better. It's an accessibility medical product idea with important privacy and security considerations. The product *could* record people in a creepy way, if it is built in an insecure and non-private way, but it's important to establish non-creepy glasses for these purposes and other useful purposes.

If someone is secretly recording video and audio of other people, that's creepy, independent of form factor.

Yeah, I see the drugs and the crime as a symptom of an underlying or prior disease.
What is the root? The radical? Hmm... I think it's the economy. It's also corruption in politics, which is sort of the definition of capitalism. If we got rid of capitalism, we'd fix the economy and get money out of politics.
Most crime is due to people not having shelter, food, or medicine. Make sure people have those things, and you'll see a solution to crime.
I don't think forming militias will solve economic problems.

@nprofile…8wcz Some people I've known have found benefits from DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) even more than or in addition to or alternative to CBT.
SMART goals helped for me when I took 12 weeks of short term disability for addiction recovery. It's just the smallest things that I keep track of getting accomplished during one day, or even smaller or larger measurable time periods.

Can anyone recommend a payment solution for my small company website? I'd like to accept international payments from all countries.
I was looking at Stripe, which looks like it supports 44 countries and over 100 currencies and has a nice simple Python API. Also, they take a smaller percentage and flat rate than PayPal.
I just read that Stripe's CEO supports Israel, during the genocide, so I'm looking for an alternative.
Digging deeper, payment systems for Palestine are practically nonexistent.
Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

I also probably wouldn't read it and would be surprised if someone called me out as having violated one. I mainly see it's use as a welcoming message, rather than a control mechanism. I totally agree that arguing about it is annoying and distracting and usually manipulative for other reasons, related to ego and other annoying unrelated things.

I agree that a code of conduct should not be necessary. However, I also don't see the harm in stating an inclusive code of conduct and being explicit about the rules about being blocked if one breaks the rules.
Adding a rainbow flag to welcome everyone also might be helpful to explicitly welcome the LGBTQIA+ community.

I agree that DEI has become a weaponized political buzzword on the right, but the concepts of inclusivity, equity, and inclusion are not political buzzwords in my opinion.
Being clear about rules of conduct when submitting and reviewing PRs, or posting to group mailing lists, specifying in the rules for such that conversations must not include hate speech, and must be non-political, especially not politically divisive, is important. Being inclusive, treating PRs equally in terms of gender, sexuality, race, nationality, is fine and important to include, in my non-political opinion.

When I'm abusive, it conflicts with my core value of being loving toward others. Being abusive toward others reduces my ability to love myself, which is my first priority.
Exiting the DARVO cycle doesn't immediately stop the abuse, but in my case, the abuse was largely a mirror of my behavior, so I can see over time, as I break the cycle, the abuse toward me does decrease.

What is the simplest and best FOSS podman container registry?
I have a small web application with a front end in svelte, an nginx reverse proxy, and a database. I'm planning to run it all on one virtual machine on DigitalOcean for the time being.
So far, I've been able build all of my images from a standard Debian base image, so I have minimal dependencies on docker.io or other third-parties registries.

I agree with you in terms of generalizing people along racial lines.
There is something to be said for paying attention to racism ingrained in our systems and society. Critical Theory and Critical Race Theory specifically focused on racial breakdowns in prisons and various other societal metrics says less about generalizing individuals and more about specific problems within larger systems. It's important to pay attention to race and racial terms in these cases, I think. Racism is real, and it's good to be aware of the problem and not ignore it.

People voted for Trump in the US. The US had a democracy that worked pretty well, and the citizens of the US voted for Trump.

Do you have more context? I'm assuming by copyright maximalist, you mean folks that would like stronger copyright law to outlaw the sharing of proprietary works, but I may be wrong.
I've been finding myself attracted to strong copyleft licenses, like AGPL, but also including GPL, LGPL, and MPL, which heavily depend on copyright law to be enforced. I've been thinking of liberal licenses, like MIT license and BSD license, to basically undo copyright law, but not add any protections for the end user. I'd be curious of your take on these issues as well.

I have been diagnosed with Retinitus Pigmentosa, which is a disease of progressive retinal degeneration. I am legally blind, although I have about 5-degrees of vision remaining in my fovea. I'm interested in researching and developing BCIs (Brain-Computer Interfaces), specifically BCIs that function as vision prostheses that may help with conditions like RP, or the more common degenerative retinal disease AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration).
I enjoy playing computer games like Age of Empires and Rimworld. I used to program computer games when I was younger and would like to get back to it one day.
I love playing music, especially bass guitar. I've been listening to a lot of Rage Against the Machine and Enya recently.
I enjoy reading books, mostly non-fiction.
I enjoy studying religions. I've found a lot of value in Buddhism, and I meditate often daily.
