Last Notes npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I'm glad there is a resistance. When I think of all the work botanists do to set up these incredible resources, it's just wrong that sam Altman and Elon musk get to steal their work. And profit from it npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho Holy fucking shit AI is causing heaps of problems in the botanical identification world. Northwest floral had an incredible id tool where you could type in various subspecies of a plant and it would give you side by side comparisons in minute details. They've turned it off because of ai bot scraping. Jepsons eflora now makes you take a math test to prove you are human. Kew went to blank pages, This is a fucking nightmare. Grass ID is hard, it can be incredibly confusing and now because of fucking AI my life has become harder. I am proud of botanical sites standing up to ai .... But shit #fuckAi npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho It looks like a painting, they glow blue from beneath npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I was told years ago that oak leaves mess with soil ph acidifying it. Total mythology.....its amazing how many untrue myths about every topic under the sun there are. I have an endless supply of oak leaves. I'm gonna start mulching with them. #OakLeafMulch #Gardening https://www.hunker.com/13406949/how-do-oak-leaves-affect-ph/ npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho And she's wearing styling practical overalls! There's still quite a few Wailaki living here in sohum npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I remember one year the winner of the annual Betty Crocker bake off was earth worm cookies. They won for their protein content . Worms can be dried and ground into flour. npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho Wow Alex Preddi has a gorgeous corrido that's been written for him ! https://youtu.be/71ImuUu5pHM?si=c4ukOTUpdir47mQK npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I love that Charles Darwin quote! npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho But the definition of "fittest" doesn't always mean the physically biggest or strongest. Being cautious can also be an evolutionary determiner of survival, that little timid deer, in some circumstances may survive where the brawny guy gets himself killed by being overly confident. And some species have gotten smaller due to environmental pressure. I don't think evolution has hard fast rules, except the desire of life to go on living. Then there are these fascinating cases of rapid evolution, like elephants being born tuskless to survive poaching. The world is a mysterious place. https://www.discovery.com/nature/tuskless-elephants-evolved-to-escape-poachers npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho The first wildflower of spring...not a poppy ... Just appeared in my yard " footsteps of spring " I think it may be of the sanicle family https://files-cdn.mountains.social/media_attachments/files/115/884/776/927/443/117/original/d2e370ac78a53dba.jpg npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho Build it and they will come. The dam removals on the Klamath already have more fish making it to the upper regions than anybody thought. The salmon are only waiting for us to do the right thing. npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho The undamming of the Klamath River is an amazing success story, it's healing faster than anyone expected. A group of kids from local tribes are the first to kayak the entire river. It was a month long journey, including through unknown rapids, a 2.5 mile class IV rapid canyon with steep basalt walls. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/oct/25/klamath-river-restoration-teenagers npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I've spent a few winters camping in Baja, and it's an astounding bird watching paradise. It's seems like many species over winter in Mexico. I was surprised to see cardinals that far south. npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho It's better if the permafrost stays frozen. Tho I feel bad for people longing for warm weather npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho It actually happens quite a bit but without tragic endings tho often scary. I read an article of stories about people led astray by car GPS taking them the shortest rt. ending up on narrow dirt rds in the middle of nowhere, and they can't turn around. Finding themselves in pot grows, lost in the desert. Even in cities gps takes people through sketchy areas of town that locals avoid. Also finding themselves lost in a canyon or dense tree cover where GPS has no signal. It is not a perfect science. npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho There's been many horror story cases now of people being led astray on remote roads with car GPS, that's how that couple got stranded in winter in Oregon and the husband died tryna ng to get help.. Gps told them it was the quickest route. npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I still use paper maps, I like to see the whole route layed out at once, not scrolled bit by bit , on a tiny screen. I always carry a paper topo map while hiking and backpacking, so many remote places don't have cell service, I carry a compass too. When the grid goes down people will literally be lost๐ npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho ๐ sort of like an Easter version of coal in your stocking..... But worse npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho My friend and I went for a hike around the community park. When we got back to the parking lot,we could hear the pitiful wailing of a dog in distress across the river. The dog was half way down a cliff and couldn't go up or down. One guy drove around to the top of the cliffs and knocked on doors , seeing if anyone was missing a dog. A lady posted about the dog on a town FB page, and people started showing up, though we had trouble seeing where the dog was. The hero of the day was the man who waded the fast moving, freezing cold river, he got most of the way across the then hit a deep part and got soaked. It was sunset and freezing cold. He climbed the cliff and found the puppy. In the meantime 6 Calfire guys, and the town fire department, with three big trucks, and one small truck showed up. The puppy savior carried the shivering shaking puppy back across the river. Puppy was reunited with her person. A story with a happy ending! https://files-cdn.mountains.social/media_attachments/files/114/135/988/365/863/936/original/c0902306f591d400.jpg https://files-cdn.mountains.social/media_attachments/files/114/135/990/611/439/332/original/4c2a8d62c061b81a.jpg https://files-cdn.mountains.social/media_attachments/files/114/135/993/212/153/921/original/f9c2a0a32e7a7457.jpg npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho Sometimes being annoying little shits is the best strategy https://files-cdn.mountains.social/media_attachments/files/113/915/898/847/342/757/original/94773eda58d78bf2.png npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho https://youtu.be/9RlTZdYXcKg?si=GlEPSkf3CGpY4eYv npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho There is a men's Acapella group called "home free" that recently did Bye Bye American Pie . It's posted on YouTube. Don McLean is actually singing with them, he still sounds great, and it's absolutely fantastic . npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho Very cool shot! npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho That tongue! npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho They just upgraded the main one here in northern California to a 7.3. definitely the biggest quake I've ever felt npub197x9r2quse0nzgeepkey7kwasss0wf2asqg3zg2437ptvjezagnqxszczx Coho I can see how you thought the shape was an owl.
