Promoting an event where naked unvarnished truth prevails that isn't topic limited, just themed as confessions, all fits just fine. They've been funny, sad, gross, collectively covered so much ground... the confessions have variety that's for sure. I'd imagine the events gather people who want to hear others 'keep it real', and it can probably be quite a ride topic wise. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…ml9f Sure hope that's a thing. If you're in the PNW though, in this 3 inches of rain a day onslaught, you know better than to bother. Wish for you this week is you're spared flooding, sinkholes, landslides and roof leaks. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…5l40 There were credible stories of people getting shocked from telegraph lines and such. Quick question, just in case - in today world, what would a Carrington level event do? And Zion is among the best places to do it. If there's still Matunkaweep (spelling) Native American Hogans for rent right outside Zion, it is a pinnacle of perfection I swear to it. Are you going to try or be able to try (upstream weather safety) hiking the Virgin River? npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting Saturday's #portland #Oregon #protest march is going to be epic. 3 starting points for the marches. 2 bridges will be shut down for crossing. Those 3 groups merge with a 4th stationary point. Organizers have done an incredible job. Local police are arranged to protect it all. We still have some crucial protections, rights, and real order for peaceful protest in our favor still. I urge everyone to make use of that or we will lose them. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Oregon is too. State is compensating financially/with services for the environment, public health and benefit to a degree but not everything is operational either. For example, not getting trash removed would draw and habituate wildlife in terrible ways, adding risks to public too, so they're on it. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Great sign, are you having fun? You're not aschock full of stories and reverences as Oregon, you holding out on us? 😆 If you happen to see Elk or buffalo crossing signs along the Tetons and Yellowstone that has a small* added sticker of a cowgirl riding the elk holding her hat high above her head with one arm, could you let me know? It was a big and consistent thing around there for a decade, but I haven't been back since covid and wonder if they're still persisting over there. It was impressive it lasted as long as it did. *out of proportion in order to be sneakier Have a great adventure! npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…2hrv Shudder inducing. It was like a tour through so many familiar and beloved places. With the added bonus of through someone else's eyes, your experiences and storytelling. The pictures too, things like a favorite waterfalls status, what's in bloom/fruit where, how deep the summer sand layer is in some spots, loved seeing all those updates. Loved seeing new views. You helped me fall a little more in love with it here, thank you. That's a real gift. Been meaning to ask you, did you ever hear varied thrush anywhere along the way? Have a great next adventure. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting If you work in science, your fellow scientists have a message: https://open.substack.com/pub/yourlocalepidemiologist/p/bullets-in-the-windows?r=otj5r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Close - borrowed album, made to give back - Guns N Roses to Amy Grant. I've only seen them position this way to chug a fish, it's fairly brief when they do. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Hey FYI since you're on the road. There's a statewide coastal tsunami watch, which if the models are right would impact about midnight (11:50-11:55 or so). So keep your phone charged, on and close today please until they get more info on it. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Yours does stand out for how well you pay homage to the natural beauty and accessibility Oregon Law has about the coastline. When the book Travels with Charly was recommended, it was due to a similarity I saw in the reverence you paid the coast, reminding me of his reverence for the Redwoods. When I was traveling around for years exploring, the places and people did stand out and both are easy to appreciate, but the times being in solitude with remote nature are my most prized, whereas the people I met were wonderful, hospitable and entertaining mostly but still fleeting, for some reason they just didn't affect as much. How about you? npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t That stretch there is so dynamic. Every day you have to reintroduce yourself to the view. Did you see the octopus tree while you were close? PS, we love your love of Oregon. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t There's so many important things to do to stay acquainted with nature, to know it very intimately and well takes a lot of time and effort. Congrats on the priorities! npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…2hrv I recently discovered eating a massive (literally massive) salad right before bed helped me sleep better. Like profoundly better. So I literally stuff myself just before bedtime and nearly doubled the hours I can get consistently. Spinach, cucumber, tomato, mushrooms, sunflower seeds, and craisins are sleep aids, who knew? Deeper sleep, disruptions dropped strongly, more restorative. Oddly enough, I haven't gained weight either, was kinda hoping it would plump me up a bit but no. I don't want to drink as much water in the day either, a glass a day reduction. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Well, perhaps your adventures here, and the love that's grown for Oregon and it's gorgeous coastline is enough for you to move here so you can immerse without such pressure ahead, as a resident not a visitor. Granted, I am very biased, and spent decades exploring this state calling it home, but I really think you'd like it here, and being able to explore it at a less pressured pace. Wherever you go, whatever you do, I hope it nourishes you. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar ~Byron npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t If it tasted as good as it looked, please send the name of the place. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting Just got a notice from my old bank branch. They are drilling my safe deposit box and closing out all boxes at that branch, I should come retrieve my stuff. I cleaned it out a long time ago, closing it out. Last time it was accessed was 2011. I've still been charged since. I'm pretty confused, but this might end up meaning I'll get 1k back in refunds, so there's that. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t The new camera, you, and Oregon are really doing the moments justice. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t I've spent half a century avidly exploring Oregon, and it still wows often. It's nice to see people cherishing and celebrating it too. Thanks for taking us along. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t You just passed Salem? So close!!! Did you see the smiley face along the hillside forest? npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Welcome back to my neck of the woods, have fun! npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…r5de There's a style of piano playing called 4 hands, or piano 6 hands, with 2 or more musicians sharing one instrument. This is the first 2 hands, 2 paws and 1 nose performance, and it's wonderful. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…uum5 Sure thank you for asking. I was not given any meds due to .. the medical system here is really struggling is the readers digest version. That worried/stressed pretty bad. Resting, a lot, and yesterday started to show signs little of improvement, one symptom finally lifted. Small increment better today, another symptom was gentler. Tedious but trending! Still feel pretty awful though. The advice to slow activity helped the most. After doing a must do chore and feeling like I could do one more thing, I'd tell myself if I still have energy to spare in 3 hours I could do the non essential task then. That same non essential chore has yet to be done. Thank you and everyone for the strong advice to err on the side of caution intensely. The memorial for the CF friend was yesterday, lots of conflicting advice, pressure and dialogue around it.. just mask, if you test neg it will be fine, etc..I held firm it wasn't responsible or even feasible and that was the right move. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting It was a good run. For 5 1/2 years, I was able to avoid covid. Tested positive last night. I'd heard my state had the most cases by far in the country last week, and had been carefully trying to marginalize risks & time breaks for masking all these years. Former waning periods I was much better disciplined at timing things. This time I knew there was an uptick but kept forgetting my mask and piling on additional risks. I failed to adapt this time and paid for it. First time really is a rough ride. Even with vaccines, of which I'm about 9 months from the last dose. Perhaps it's not of any help anymore or the response is slowed or more feeble. Can only say... ugh. What a weird headache especially. I can smell though, so that's nice. It's not exactly like a flu or a cold. With those, I usually rest often and deeply, can channel the exhaustion and time goes by fast from all the sleeping. With #covid I'm exhausted, achy, all the flu like stuff, but barely sleep.🤒 Advice anyone? npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…eeal You seem to have a knack for finding some precious solace in painful times. Thanks for taking us along a bit. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…843t Your Oswald West report was eagerly anticipated, had a feeling you'd love it too, and discover the reverence and awe it emanates. If you haven't yet, please consider reading 'Travels with Charly" Steinbeck. I have a feeling you might love it too, the redwoods section especially, but all the rest as well, you strike me as kindred spirits. Safe travels friend. Thank you for visiting, hope you come back soon. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting I adopted the dog, it's official. Talked with his other family, they gave a hearty blessing. We all got mushy. She sent baby pics. I sent video of his first zoomies and all 3 of us playing together in the yard. She thanked me for picking him. I thanked her for picking us. It was super sweet. The dog itself was free, the past month he's been neutered, chipped, flea treated and bathed, they asked to only recoup those costs, super fair. His name is now Mork, from Mork and Mindy fame. He's in his prime, extra hairy, so brilliant in some ways and so naive and innocent in others. He's suddenly in a whole new big confusing new world to figure out and love his way through, in the throes of adventure, and he's a supreme goofball. To top it off, he's profoundly sweet and affectionate. It fits. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting A week long trial was estimated just to see how new dog adapted to everything, how we all bonded. 4 days in, I asked to adopt him outright. They said yes! My heart just got about 100 pounds heavier, with a lot of fuzz thrown in. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting As an introvert, rallying is so not my style. Nor is joining political discussions, or confronting bullying. I can do it to some small scale as needed in life, but the consistency and perseverance needed now has been really hard. Gathering the courage and moxie to rally today. Constitutional rights are use them or lose them. Protests have forced change (scared lawmakers enough to yield else get voted away) before, when crowds get large and steady enough. Here goes an act of constructive desperation in many parts. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…eu3n That's some good news, a relief. Some way I can meet important health needs. Of course happy to pay, grateful for options. Thank you. Would tourism be imposing at this stage of things? Canada is right to be angry and distrusting in general, I respect those responses, I'd have them too in your shoes. Unsure if we've given you all the ICK so strongly if nerdy Oregon Democrats can be tolerated. I'd like to give support, commerce and be around some decency. Let my guard down about mass shootings. Not be scared of unmarked, unaccounted for gestapo disappearing people who use their 1st amendment rights without due process. That kind of thing. A real vacation for a week or so. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting Canada friends, 1st, I'm sorry about the USA corruption, elbows up. 2nd: Can Americans get vaccines or prescriptions there? Our FDA is being corrupted too. Our new head of health hates vaccines. I'm scared. Is tourism to you there still ok? Are we so hated, deservedly, it would be best not to? Is Jasper open from the fires again? Figure folks there might need some economic stimulus... npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…0lh9 Hope your community and it's inhabitants all have good precautions and preparations just in case. Having lived in the foothills or adjacent to volcanoes all my life, Mt St Helens big eruption especially, I've been so grateful for the supplies that made a world of difference. Besides those same supplies came in clutch for floods, roads/phone and power being out weeks at a stretch, and forest fires too, so all the better to have had them at the ready. Wishing you all strong contingencies. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…20qw Only knew you didn't use 101, cause I was on the S coast from dawn-3pm, and it was weirdly dry. Spring breaker travelers were getting a real treat! Hope you have a marvelous visit, and drier one too. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…20qw Welcome to Oregon! Did you come up on 97 or I5, or way East? npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…2hrv All the small town struggle classics. Yeah, here too. Takes a long while to ferret out the good ones. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @nprofile…uum5 Thanks for speaking up. To the online and local communities too, mocking people doesn't get them to trust you. "I told you so!" doesn't build community either. They made the right choice, thank them for learning from their mistakes please. "Good job protecting your kids, you made the right choice' will go much farther. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting Wanted one more good work out before the storm hit, and got up before dawn to try. I'm bringing an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms, and an addictive candy that goes back in our family to 1898. Friends and family used to all bring our favorite recipes and traditions and do a huge potluck/byob for dinner, now it's a small group and likely to be catered at the nursing home. There's still an ongoing after midnight/before bed tradition of pancakes that goes back in tradition to before the great depression, and it was kept during the great depression even, which cemented it into tradition and family lore. I really love that tradition. Only the grandkids and I still do it though. What do you have planned? npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @npub1g7j…7unj Scream. Breathe. Repeat as necessary. I wish I could hug you while you grieve. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting Dad used to fly model airplanes with pontoons, taking off and landing on water from a park by a lake. He did that for many years and loved it. In the retirement home though, there are no lakes nearby. Luckily, there's a hobby group that rents private property and they all pitch in for events. Dad joined and went out with two planes this morning. One crashed, but that's why you bring two! The second one he lost sight of in a fog, hit a thick pocket and it was a goner. He searched for it for a bit, then dejectedly went home. He's around 90 y/o and wasn't prepared for hiking offtrail, so he played it smart. Hours later, part of the group shows up at his door, with his plane. Perfectly intact without a scratch on it somehow. They were elated for him, everyone had a great laugh. What a lovely community he found. He'd been thinking the hobby wasn't fun anymore, time to let go of that. The people though won him over, he signed on to do it again next week. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting @npub1f2y…m58m Hope this message reaches him via a note to his work, or via coworkers. But man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against himself? [We are] challenged as mankind has never been challenged before to prove our maturity and our mastery, not of nature, but of ourselves." Sat eve/Sunday and Monday. Foothills are still tame. Campfire by the river is on the menu. King tides is hosing a campfire fire on the beach this time. Gonna be awesome though. Maybe his passing will inform more people about the neuro aspects of alcohol abuse at least. He lost an infant, that seemed to be what broke him deep down. npub19ehd2zchf84ll3gfxvhlrg0gqmhywccpyf4s9zskhrprmmdmmaqsrfuemh CoastalCoasting The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Section in Portland is investigating Sergeant Levi Gray, with the Oregon Department of Corrections, who was recently indicted by a grand jury and arrested by the Oregon State Police for Custodial Sexual Misconduct in the First Degree and Official Misconduct in the First Degree. She got out, looked so forlornly between the cars for a long while, then into the store. I made some notes just in case and headed in too. The loudspeaker was calling for the owner. Found her in customer service, still looking frayed and anxious. She looked apprehensive when she saw me coming over. Told her we ALL make mistakes, sorry it was her turn today. How good it was to see her stepping up about it, I admired her unabashedly. She teared up. Folks, she was holding so much in, and that just boiled her emotions over. She was relieved a little that someone was being nice to her, she was gracious, exhausted, worried, like awash, and crying.. I should've followed the urge to hug her, didn't know if it would help or sap her more though. She was so overwhelmed in all the ways, running the gamut. The young have it hard, harder than my generation by far. They're also lovely.
