I feel very pleased with myself. We did a lowish-cost (had to be under $4k) bathroom reno in our new place, with minimum waste. New lino tiles on the previously black-painted floor which i repaired, $1000. New loo cos old one manky, $200 - old one going to my sister’s as her plastic cistern is perishing. New vanity cos old basin too big and no drawers, sold it on trademe so net cost $500. Plumber to install loo and basin (and remove gas-heat ducting) $1000. And This morning I took out the cracked tiles on the bath side and installed waterproof ‘wood panelling’ on the side of the bath, from Trade Depot $87 (plus tube of silicone for base, joints, sides).

McCains closes its veggie operation in NZ. Watties closes its veggie and coffee operation in NZ.
I genuinely do not understand the end game vision of those who push us to be open to NZ companies moving into foreign ownership, ownership that cares no hoots about our country, our people.

@nprofile…7760 I spent the hot arvo digging a 45cm hole next to the rengarenga and installing a dog-waste bokashi bin.
Hot dirty work but the joy of stopping sending endless ‘poo gloves’ and doggy do bags to landfill makes me very happy.
Did you plant or weed?

When we bought this place, with big gardens that were clearly once something, the owner said ‘those irrigation pipes are all broken, nothing works”.
Sure enough, they were just buried, some spade holes, all the sprinkler fittings busted or buried. Slowly but surely resurrections are happening.
And this is the BIG news
By the end of the week, the long stretch in the garden by the berm strip will be up and runnng. With a Bluetooth timer. Which has a manual button so that I can use my phone to turn on the sprinkler from inside WHEN THE DOG RUNS UP AND DOWN SCREECHING AT PEOPLE OUT ON THE PATH.
My life will be bliss.

Spare a thought with all the poor old guys sitting at home with their keyboards, as Waitangi approaches and there are SO MANY facebook posts about the events, celebrations - and they need to go on to every one of them and repeatedly say “where is that?” And “speak English” and “this is called New Zealand”…

It read like an MMH sales brochure, telling us how hard MMH are working to make us all secure from now on etc blah blah. And that the names of affected people will be known by 5 January (yesterday). And if it is me I’ll be told ASAP.

185 cases of measles in the South Carolina outbreak.
1 of those sick people was fully vaccinated.
174 were not vaccinated.
The other 10 were only partially vaccinated or it is not known yet.

You can bet your bottom dollar that once we DO start tipping, the Ruth Richardson end of our spectrum of politics will start arguing for a ‘minimum wage-exemption’ for hospitality. Just like they are now doing for uber drivers.

For those of you that noted my msg above - an update. A surprising update.
Late last week, after a ‘secure dementia bed’ had been found as per the Needs Assessment, hubby had a slightly better day. Friday was better again. Over the weekend his gait became normal, and he watched cricket (a fortnight earlier he couldn’t understand what the TV was even for.
Today the medical team have been back. They ahve formally wothdrawn that Needs Assessment. The CJD ‘diagnosis’ may have been premature. Now they are thinking ‘viral encephalopathy’. And he is recovering.
Today he got his memory back - but has lost 5 weeks. Can remember back to friday, can’t recollect ANY of what let to hospital.
If this continues, he goes home in a few days - he may be largely himself.
From normal to ‘severe end stage dementia’ to nearly-normal in 5 weeks.

Libertarian Damien Grant writes a column suggesting the (highly qualified, experienced) Supreme Court are living in a fantasy world because he thinks people should be able to choose (yep, choose, in a system that deliberately creates unemployment to keen inflation down) to work below a liveable wage rate.
Q’uelle surprise.

@nprofile…5nnv @nprofile…zvnh hey Bob, I thought you might like a quick follow up. Hubby is going into secure care today. Amazing to think. 5 November he was utterly normal.
Final diagnosis “extremely rapid onset dementia, likely cause spontaneous Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease”.
Seems there are three (?) kinds - the kind you get from eating infected meat (which no-one in NZ has ever got by the way) a hereditary kind, and ‘spontaneous’ of which NZ has 3 or 4 a year and which is quickly progressive. 😢

Of god. A friend of mine and her hubby have been plotting to sell their holiday home, plans that will fund a gentle but lovely retirement. The day after they did the budget she awoke hearing him very upset - he was looking at his trousers and couldn’t remember what do do with them.
Long story short, he has been in hospital ever since, rapid decline, he no longer recognises her and has ‘rapid onset dimentia”. From normal husband to completely unable to function in three weeks.
Love your people. Do your wills and EPOAs. Have those holidays now.

Why do you think, in the ongoing McSkimming media coverage, there is so little attention paid to him being a churchgoer? And going to the same church as Coster?
-No analysis of the culture of trust McSkimming created with Coster and others, that enabled a situation where Coster didn’t doubt him for a second.
-No analysis about powerful “christian” men and how often their sexual behaviour is repugnant.

I am fascinated watching influential people advocate a doubling of defense spending because, as small as our contribution is we have to do our bit in the face of global destablisation’
But those same people oppose any of our climate change spending because we’re so small it won’t make a difference, even in the face of global climate destabilization.

Note, no-one said we have no KPIs but I just want to help ensure people don’t take that interpretation.
