#asknostr What if anyone could place a task on a map with a Bitcoin bounty, and someone nearby could complete it for the sats?
Pick up a parcel, return some keys, check a property, buy an item, anything legal.
Not just car rides or food delivery - Any real-world task.
Would you use it to post tasks, earn sats, or both? What would you need in order to trust it?

You can do:
- Location Pins in private groups.
- Post messages at your current location visible only by people in your private group.

#asknostr If Nostr had a map-native client, what would make you open it regularly?
Nearby notes? Places shared by people you follow? Private meetups? Private Location sharing?

Your map-social world doesn’t have to end with Snapchat or Instagram Maps, especially when you are on Nostr.
Snapchat → Mafrend
Instagram Map → Mafrend
Other map-social apps → Mafrend
Mafrend brings conversations, shared places, and time-bound location updates together on one map, built on Nostr.
It’s still alpha, which is exactly why your testing and feedback matter, it helps to shape the future of the Map Nostr Client.
Download Mafrend on Zapstore:
https://zapstore.dev/apps/com.mafrend.application
Btw, the new Mafrend 1.2 alpha is now available with Marmot Private Groups support.

Today I presented the whole idea about Mafrend vision to @npub1s0v…rmq5, one guy told it's impossible to build it, "being too many things at once" - which I don't doubt, but I responded that "We should aim to the stars, and even we don't make it there at least we could be a planet." saying about maps.

Email is the result, the transfer protocol for emails is SMTP, (IMAP for access).
So you can compare Email with Event from Nostr since both are the "payload", but Nostr itself can be compared only with SMTP since both are protocols. An analogy I used often as well.

Probably I talk fantasy but I the whole calculation/computing that Bitcoin makes is meaningless. Don't get me wrong - it's still a good value storage but instead of computing bytes to be in a certain shape, you could compute something more meaningful like:
- Reasoning power, token computation.
- Genome computation to make early illness detection.
- New meds discovery via simulation computing.
- Other weird ideas to make our life easier.

It was designed by architect Lúcio Costa in the shape of an airplane (or sometimes described as a bird or dragonfly) to symbolize progress and movement.

I would prefer Nostr articles over Medium, but there are not so many of them, the ecosystem of topics is not so rich yet.
Also I wanted to mention that Nostr is shadowed by BlueSky and Mastodon. For example SaaS products (let’s say AI social content generators) would often include the last two but they don’t know about Nostr.
What could be the causes? Nostr positioning? Lack of user apps? How many BlueSky or Mastodon derived apps do you know? Everyone knows what Gmail, ProtonMail, YahooMail mean, but not everybody has heard about SMTP.
I don’t know the causes, just wrote some food-for-brain, just to think on.

I don’t understand this statement.
I would say these are two separate ideas, and their hypes are concurrents.
Some people around me say: “Don’t rush into this AI hype to build something - it might end up like the Bitcoin hype that faded after COVID.”
(The idea back then was to replace XDR currency with Bitcoin/crypto at a company that receives many payments from around the world, but it never gained traction and eventually evaporated after COVID.)
The AI hype replaced the crypto hype.

My friend suggested an idea about Bitcoin. In his view, Bitcoin is a playground for something bigger. Ask yourself this question: “How do you get people to test a new, software-based currency at a global level to find its weaknesses?”
In order to find vulnerabilities—the holes in the Swiss cheese 🧀- and how people can cheat the system. “Since it’s a program, it can be broken,” right?
Someone once said there is an algorithm that is impossible to break - but how do you test that at scale?

I had the same “wow” thought when found out about Graph Databases in the context of social networks.
Neo4j has vector similarity search on nodes, if it is powered to a AI RAG system we can generate nice information, content, recommendations (but not overuse it like instagram or tiktok do, since nostr doesn’t want to be like them).
Also the relationship “feature” between tables is upgraded on whole new level in Graph Databases compared with traditional sql databases like Oracle where you have to do joins on a middle table to achieve same thing.

2025-10-28 09:50:10 GMT

- reply

If you remove the content propagation based on smart algorithms then you have to provide to the users something else in return otherwise they will not be motivated to use your app.
Instagram back in the days showed only posts from followers, then they saw that this strategy is not engaging users to use the app properly and some “good” content doesn’t arrive to you simply because you don’t follow someone. Then they invented this smart feed based on things you like.
I don’t think smart algorithms are generally bad, it depends how you use them. I don’t want my feed to be full of memes to spike my dopamine level and take all my attention because I simply like them, but maybe I would like some services or content that I specifically search for to be more accessible.
Another point I wanted to make is that TikTok by my opinion was created by a government to promote different political views and get huge money from it, wins the one with more money. It was created with a specific goal, and clear business model. It’s a big business but Nostr has to find its own way how to play in this game if wanted.
I don’t know about #Rumble, it’s first time I hear about them, if you want you can share more about it

2025-10-27 05:38:41 GMT

- reply

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle, but I think modern social networks like Instagram and TikTok were primarily designed to capture and direct your attention — to make you focus on what those in control want you to see.
TikTok, in particular, represents the next generation of algorithm-driven content distribution, and it’s often used as a tool to promote certain political narratives. Governments spend massive amounts on TikTok advertising during elections — at least, that’s the case in my home country.
What I’m getting at is this: TikTok operates within powerful investment and influence networks. So where does Nostr fit into this picture? Do we even want a platform that captures user attention in the same way? And if we do, how should we approach it?
