BIP353 is 🔥. It just needs more support in wallets. Which means more support for silent payments and BOLT12. It’ll be a great day when I can tell anyone to send money to [email protected] and it’ll just work. At least for now it works with Cake Wallet and Phoenix Wallet.

It warms my Baptist heart.
I’ve set up a NOSTR page for my church. It’s not much—just a link to the church’s Sermon Audio page, the Pastor’s name, Sunday worship times, a couple pictures, and the church’s lightning address. That’s right. My church can accept zaps now. Give them a follow.

It wouldn’t sync for me either until I upgraded from 16 to 32GB RAM. The sync used 6.5 all by itself. Back down to 3.5 now that it’s done.

Video suggestion: Graduation season is coming up and I’m planning on giving out some sets of 12 words. It would be nice if I could also give out a link to a YouTube video explaining a few basics about Bitcoin and some of the things they can do with it. You know, recommended wallets, how to import your twelve words and the importance of keeping them safe and secret, how to transfer to a lightning wallet, how to buy a gift card, but also why you should really try to hodl it even though you’re probably going to see the price go way up and way down.

The key is to count up from the amount owed to the amount paid, starting with the smallest denominations, adding the change until the amount owed plus the change is equal to the amount paid. So for example, if $3.67 was charged, and paid for with a $5 bill, 3 cents out of the register would get you to $3.70, a nickel gets you to $3.75, a quarter to $4, and a dollar bill gets you to $5. That is what this millennial learned working summers at an ice cream shop in my high school years. I didn’t even look at the register to see how much was owed.

Also, someone might want to have a private conversation without leaking that the conversation is even happening. Could something like an HD wallet fix this? Say I want to DM you. I send you a message from an npub that is generated for the purpose of initiating a conversation with you (let’s call this npub1). Part of the message is cryptographic proof that I have the key that controls my public-facing npub (my, call it, npub0), and part of the message is another new npub (call it npub2) that you can respond to if you choose to reply. If you respond to my message to you, you send the message to my npub2, from a newly generated npub of your own with proof that you have the key that controls your public-facing npub. Now we are chatting using npubs that only you and I know are ours. The only thing anyone else can see is that your public npub received a message from an unknown sender. No one knows who that message was from or even if you responded. I’m not a coder, but it seems like this could be done. Or am I way off?

One issue though, is that when I try to export a taproot xpub, it gives an xpub rather than a zpub, and the addresses all start with 1 rather than bc1p. 0.5 did this too.

Isaiah 9:2, 6-7
The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined….
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
