Remember that super famous song, "Somebody that I used to know" by Gotye. There's a girl in there. And back in the day I was amazed by her voice.
I remember I went to check on her, but that was still that moment of my life where I was listening only to metal and I did not dig deeper on her music.
Yesterday they played the infamous song again, and yet again I remember how much I liked that voice.
My today's #MusicWomenWednesday is to her:

Hello mastodon community into digital #art and #drawing,
I wonder if anyone knows a nice Android app to make drawings or sketches optimised for finger use.
The use case is that sometimes I have crafting ideas on the go, and I would love to make sketches with my phone. Ideally should be an app optimised for finger (as opposite to pen) and even better if it has some aid for making straight lines, etc.
Thanks!

Dear #NextCloud community,
Is there any client (Android, iOS or OSX) that allows me to view my remote photos and filter them based on Exif and create remote albums from such search?
Mine is a "managed" Nextcloud and does not allow me to install Memories. So I am trying to find a workaround.
My use case is that I would like to create remote albums from those pictures I give a star rating (Exif), but the default NextCloud Photos does not have such feature.
Any lead is welcome! Thanks!

Beloved #WarhammerCommunity and #miniaturepainting people, I need help.
I realised a couple of weeks ago that Vallejo discontinued one of my favourite paints: Game Color Smokey Ink.
I use it a lot. Probably it's the only paint in all my miniatures. So I need an "out of the pot" replacement.
Any suggestion?

Liebe Fedileute,
Bitte, retoot 🙏🏻 Danke!

Hey guys, yes, the CEO of #AirBnb is a fascist and nazi friend (if not he is himself) and yes, this is the perfect moment to cancel all your AirBnB reservations and spread the word.
However, let me tell you about another thing: Gentrification.
A problem mostly caused by AirBnB and other models of short term renting that is desolating countries like mine, Spain.
That is the first and main reason why we all should cancel our AirBnB reservations, accounts, never ever think of use them again.

So, Google has removed the ability of syncing contacts Birthdays in Google Calendar, specifically in Germany. So... time to look for an alternative.
Is there any other alternative, #Nextcloud or #Proton are the first ones that come to mind, where I can storage my contacts and display their BDays in my calendar?

Any #Darktable user around? I need some help!
When I export my (RAW) pictures to JPEG (for sharing) I notice the colours change a bit from DT: they are a bit more dull, less vibrant and maybe a little darker.
The difference is small, but just enough to be noticeable. Correcting them in DT would result in suboptimal looks in DT (too bright). At first I thought it must have been a limitation of the JPEG, but I wonder if I am messing something on export.
Any thought or tip on this regard is welcomed!

So, here it is, my last mini finished. The one I painted inspired in Cloud Strife. 😅
Hope you like it!
Disclaimer: it was 3D printed by a friend. The overall details was good, but the face... from this angle looks ok, but I could not work it properly due to the lack of detail. But well. It's ok.

So, I started another painting project which, I know almost for sure, I will not be able to finish before the Xmas trip.
I got this mini from a friend who 3D printed it. The funny thing is that as soon as I saw it, it reminded me of Cloud Strife. Then when I googled to find the STL and reference, I found out that it's meant to be a Drow, and in my mind the colour scheme of a Drow is... pretty much the same as for Cloud Strife! 🤣

I feel that this whole thing of fast/xpress/contrast/1layer paints is like the amazon forest, big, deep and full of mysteries to be unraveled.
So I keep trying things and taken notes of them.
Today, I just found that Wasteland Brown (xpress) over Leather Brown* (colour), both Vallejo, make out a fast and great Leather* like finish. 👌
*Yeah, it might sound obvious, but I always felt that Leather Brown is too bright for a nice leather feeling, and the effect of the Xpress you can't get with 1 coat with other stuff like Smoke Ink or Black Wash.

Here it is. For you my beloved followers who do not want anything to do with Meta (otherwise I would link IG instead).
My first mecha. My first airbrushed. A rather fast job for my usual standards.
I love how the airbrush creates that smooth texture!

Beloved #miniaturepainting people and other #airbrush users. Question!
Today I wanted to varnish a miniature and my airbrush was having a reflux. It took me a while to realise that the issue was dried paint in a place I have little clue how to clean.
Look at the picture. It's a Harder & Steinbeck Infinity CR plus. The dried paint was around that inner ring, and most specially was in the little aperture between the screw rail and the flat part of the ring.
I tried disassembling it, but it's so hard that I fear I could break it or that I'm missing the right tool to do it.
How do you clean it? or prevent paint from accumulating there? Thx!

Breaking news!! I'm painting!! 🥳
I think I haven't taken a brush since May or so, and today I almost haven't either: if it weren't for the panel lines the edge highlights, it would have all been just airbrush.
Yes, it's the first time I use it for anything else then priming. So don't be harsh with me. 😅

Dear miniature painters, I am yet again annoyed about my pro pictures not being pro enough. There is always something... off. My current obsession is lighting (or better yet, shadows). So here's a question for whoever can answer me:
I take my pictures with the same wide lamp I use for painting (and a secondary weaker source lighting the back to avoid front-rear shadows)
I wonder if instead a super wide lamp it would be better to have two light sources 45º from each side in the front.
Has anyone tried both and can share some thoughts?
Thx!

Let's test Mastodon magic... dear #Apple users,
What is the best way of automatically syncing a specific folder between mac and iPad?
I thought iCloud would work, but options feels pretty limited. I do not want to sync anything on my Documents or Desktop, but a single specific folder located somewhere else.
Note: I know how to send files, that is not my question. In the back of my mind is OneDrive (used at work). You simply log in/connect and syncs alone, and bam, your files are always there.
Maybe OneDrive is an option? Or Dropbox?

Beloved #WarhammerCommunity,
Have you tried the WarMag solution for transporting miniatures? If so, what do you think about it?
I have been thinking a lot about it, but I could not find a shop selling it in the EU and I wonder whether it is worth (considering the importing taxes).
Thanks!

Wait, what? The usage of shower and non chemical toilets by #summerbreeze2024 is not free!?
It will be my 4th time in a festival camp and the first one charging us for such a BASIC service.
Ok, yes, it is not expensive but wtf. It is not about the price but about the feeling of being fooled. That should be included in the already non cheap festival ticket.
Ah oh, btw, we also had to pay extra for each car. ...

Random thought about hearing safety following up yesterday thread.
If so many people are wearing some sort ear plugs for safety, if concert and festival organizers provide or sell hearing protection on spot, if even health institutions talk about it...
wouldn't that mean that there is something wrong with concerts!?
The "the sound needs to reach the end of the room" does not feel like a valid argument per se, imho they could use more speakers properly placed.

Serious question here: which coast is the north coast if you are "the south" of all? 🙈

I think I found the origin of the meaning of verb "spinnen" in German.
Spinnen is what you do when you see that little body with its 8 extremely thin long legs crawling on to you, just big enough to be unavoidable to your fear, yet small enough for the others to just notice your Vitus' Dance while trying to get it off from you.
😅

Music lovers with extensive private offline music libraries, I need your insights!
How do you manage your music genres?
Do you take care of them? Or just rely on some database autotagging? If you take care, do you go for umbrella genres (metal, rock, etc) or do you go more detailed subgenres (melodic death metal, progressive rock, etc)? or a mixture of both?

Dear #miniaturepainting people and #WarhammerCommunity, a bit of quick help:
Do any of you varnish with airbrush? If so, any tip?
My biggest concern here is that it is very hard to me to know the coverage of the varnish, given that it is transparent. In rather flat surfaces I can see the shine of the varnish layer, but in pointy areas... any tip or recomendation is welcome!
Thanks!

Beloved #miniaturepainters, I think I've solved the mystery of the varnish reactivating Vallejo Xpress colours.
I've found in reddit a few comments with my very same issue, and here's the thing: I'm not using just varnish but *polyurethane* varnish.
It seems that polyurethane varnish is somewhat hard against Xpress colours and everyone recommends airbrushing it on Xpress.

Beloved #miniaturepainting people. Any of you using Vallejo Xpress colours? If so, do you know how much do they take to fully dry?
I just completed some minis, and around an hour later decided to varnish them and the paint was stripping in some spots. Never happened to me that with normal paints and with that very same varnish, so I assume it has to do with the Xpress colours. 😢
Any experience like that?

Dear #miniaturepainting people, I have a question on taking pictures of your minis!
How do you take "pro" pictures of your minis with your cell phone if they are a group or a troop?
I keep seeing comments that you do not need DSLR (fair enough) but you can't control AF with most cell phones. In my case I manage to get right one or two minis, the rest end up blurred or deformed.

Super quick and dirty proof of concept (so to say). This is the very first time I properly use Vallejo Xpress colours. I love the tone and coverage of Mystic Blue (the brighter one), but Stormy Blue is very... meh.
These are zombies from RE2 board game, which comes with few characters but plenty of zombies. For the latter group I plan to use as much of the Xpress colours as I can. My focus and time is just reserved for the characters.

@npub1cay…cs74 @npub1pcj…vrhw Oh Air B&B - I want to believe that the original idea was nice. When I started to use it (2016) they were all mostly students renting that last room they had empty. It was a nice experience, you would stay cheaper than a hotel and would meet local people and so.
Only two years later that cool thing vanished, and they were all empty flats absolutely prepared for this. it was around then when I first heard about gentrification. heh :/
